I'm both a locomotive engineer and a mechanical engineer and I have a shit ton of opinions about steam locomotives. Professional ballast scorcher. Don't race me, you'll lose. (RP blog of sorts; follows from @1863_project, the author of 21st C. Unlimited)

Brakeman is younger than the rest of the crew by roughly a decade so we've all been collectively annoying him today by referring to an individual Among Us crewmate as "A Sus" and he's comically enraged about it

Rainy and cold maintenance day but the engine shed is nice and warm today and we've got electro-swing playing, and Flugel (crew chef, Conductor's twin brother) is making us all lunch...it's a good day.

We pass through Altoona on our route and every single one of us on the crew popped our heads out the window to see if we were within view of a McDonalds

Putting the lights on Nasty Majesty and the cars today! I always love doing this for the month. I kind of wish we could keep them on all winter since it gets dark so early...

#reblogs#nobody wants to debate the trolley problem with me#because I explain that all you need to do is flip the switch in between the trucks (wheelsets)#or activate the dead man's switch#and then they realize that their stupid hypothetical has been planned for by engineers and train operators for over a century#and it falls apart#we always put safety first! you're just an asshole!

Yes, I was awake past 1 am bitching about that little shit from Polar Express who can't tell a Baldwin from a Lima again, why do you ask? I'm completely normal and functional.

As a woman doing what was traditionally considered "men's work" (even during the World Wars you didn't see women at the throttle of steam locomotives much at all) I am going to keep doing my work because I know there is a large enough portion of this country that does not like that I am doing it at all and I am a spiteful little piece of shit

Fireman and AC have been looking at my design notes and apparently according to them the way I doodle Conductor versus the way I doodle myself is very telling and I don't think I should elaborate on this

It's starting to get colder, which means I get to wear a coat 24-7 and have no one question it. Colder weather makes it easier for me to push the dysmorphia aside since the giant winter uniform coat hides everything.
Today's a maintenance day so I'll be moving around a lot anyway. Won't get too cold. I know Fireman found hand warmers in the work shed anyway just in case.
