i think it's cute when americans talk about being from the 'great state of connecticut' or like 'the great state of wisconsin.' not when it's texas or new york or california obviously because then there's the fear that they're being serious. but when americans adopt that really earnest tone and are like 'god bless the great state of delaware' in response to a picture of a seagull swallowing an entire ziplock bag full of cheese-its. I think that's very endearing

disclaimer: I am east asian. if anyone who is not white sees anything wrong with my phrasing, inaccuracies, or insensitivity, or something I missed, please feel free to add on. I'm just one person with one perspective; none of what I say should be taken as The Singular way to draw an Asian character. if you havent done so already, please take the effort to expand your view of Asian culture outside this one tutorial.
if a white person reblogs this and adds something stupid I'm going to bite and kick you like a wild animal

How to read Kara no Kyoukai/The Garden of Sinners
Kara no Kyoukai (literally translated The Boundary of Emptiness, officially translated The Garden of Sinners) is a light novel series by Kinoko Nasu, of Tsukihime and Fate fame. It was Nasu's first published work, originally published online in the 90s. You might know it most for the ufotable movie adaptations, or for the main character Shiki being playable in FGO.
This series predates Nasu's better-known Tsukihime and Fate series, and you can see inklings of ideas he'd reuse and refine in those works. Most prominent of these is the character of Shiki Ryougi, whose name, multiple personalities, and Mystic Eyes of Death Perception would all inspire Shiki Tohno of Tsukihime. This is also the series where Fate's famous Counter Force was first introduced.
The Kara no Kyoukai novels were Nasu's first published work, but have had a rough history in terms of translation to English. There have been bad and just straight up inaccurate attempts, and a publishing company that wanted to put them out officially went under before it had the chance, but now all these years later the series is finally completed in English!
Kara no Kyoukai is a supernatural mystery series set in Tokyo in the 1990s. Each chapter is an individual story (barring two-parters), but they all come together to tell a larger tale. It is written in anachronic order, not chronological order. As you read and skip through time timeline of Shiki and Mikiya's life, the story all starts to come together.
Translators:
Volume 1: Baka-Tsuki
Volume 2: ShikiRyougiAdmirer, KMP, Yusuke, Manolo, Dullahan
Volume 3: QualityMistranslations/YHK
Volume 4: Serouzo
Formatting: ProtoformX
Without further ado, the novels:
Volume 1 (PDF / EPUB) contains:
Overlooking View Murder Speculation (Part 1) Remaining Sense of Pain The Hollow Shrine Paradox Spiral (Part 1)
Volume 2 (PDF / EPUB) contains:
Paradox Spiral (Part 2) Oblivion Recorder Murder Speculation (Part 2) The Boundary of Emptiness
Please note that while ProtoformX has named the PDF for volume 2 "Incomplete" that's out of date, it does in fact have the completed translation.
Volume 3 (PDF / EPUB) contains:
Future Gospel
Volume 4 (PDF / EPUB) contains:
Final Record

I know it's not even remotely that time of year yet, but I can't stop thinking about this because the absolute fucking betrayal from people who pretended to be my community for years is just never gonna stop hurting, I guess.
The Disability Day of Mourning was created to memorialize disabled people who were murdered by their caregivers (in particular disabled kids murdered by their parents). This year, surprise, surprise, organizers made it all about Palestine, spinning ridiculous blood libel tales straight out of the middle ages about how Israel is murdering disabled Palestinian babies by the truckload. Of course not a single word was said about disabled victims of October 7th.
Next year, the only disabled people I'll be talking about on March 1st are the disabled people murdered on October 7th, the disabled people who've been killed by Gaza and Lebanon and Iran's missile attacks because it was harder for them to evacuate or get to safe rooms in time, and the disabled victims of antisemitic hate crimes. Since we're just throwing the original purpose of this day in the trash anyway, I am making it about the disabled victims who the rest of this bullshit "community" refuses to acknowledge.
Fuck the goyishe disability community. They are just as violent and hateful and genocidal as any other goyim. I'd say that I hope Noya Dan and Ruth Perez's faces and names haunt them all, but I'm sure none of them even know who those girls were.
