Avery was delighted when Iris accepted her offer, a wide smile appearing across her lips. “Perfect.” She beamed. She’d been trying to make the house look more homely and with all of them being a home since it was summer, trying to also keep it clean. “Thank you again.” She had a bouquet in the living room which Scarlett had loved, so it had soon found itself on her bedroom window sill, hence the need for another.
“Of course, sweetie,” she told the girl before moving through the shop to make the perfect bouquet. Iris never picked out cliche flowers that every grocery store market could sell. She pieced together a naturally beautiful look that had soft and quaint hues. It would spruce any room up, but she mostly put it together with Avery in mind. Soft and beautiful, much like the girl’s soul. Iris moved to wrap the bouquet up, finishing it off with tied string. “And there were are. You like?”

“I think it’s my sworn duty as your friend to question your logic.” she said teasingly, unable to hide her amusement. She smiled brightly as the other agreed to her plan. She was always happy to spend time with Iris, she thought it was a lot to do with the fact that the woman didn’t know of her past which was somewhat refreshing in a town full of people who knew almost everything that happened. It made her anxious thinking about what people thought of her. There was a sense of freedom which Hayley felt with people she’d only met after moving to Eastcliff and Iris was definitely one of her new favourites. “I won’t be long.” she promised before she turned to her next customer who also happened to be her last – unless someone barged into the store before she finished, which did not happen luckily. It was not long before she closed up and went to find Iris. “Let me take that.” she said as she spotted the other standing with the plant in her arm.
Iris stood outside the shop, back against the cool brick as she flipped through different music in her phone. Whenever she heard Hayley approach, she perked up and smiled her way. “Oh,” she said and then passed the plant to her, “Thank you, hun.” Nodding for them to walk on towards the flower shop, Iris began to walk down the sidewalk with her. “How was your day? Was work busy or have I just lowered your stock too much?”

Ade let Iris take the lead, leading her through the farmer’s market with graceful ease. The brunette stifled a chuckle which threaten to escape her lips at the first stall they came to who easily assumed Iris’ order, instead she offered a grin, nudging her friend with her elbow. “It’s sweet.” Adrianna offered in response, glancing between the stall owner and Iris for a moment. “Please can you add some strawberries?” She asked, there was nothing like freshly picked strawberries for a picnic.
The woman nodded her head happily and added strawberries to the order before Iris slipped her some money - a couple of bucks extra than what she owed. Even though Iris had little money to her name, she believed wholeheartedly people like Ms. Nellie deserved it all. Taking the bag of fruit, she continued to walk with Ade and let her eyes wander at the different vendors. “Catch me up on the life of Ade, though. What’s new? How’s work going?”

He’d been in his own world as he’d opened the door to exit Serenity cafe, his to-go coffee in one hand and his phone in the other as he went back and forth with his mother debating taking the latest recruit onto the books or not. He’d only just caught a glimpse of the person who entered the shop before colliding with them, his freshly made coffee slipping from his grasp but catching his phone just in time. Atticus was about to brush off their apology but when he recognised the voice and then looked up to their face, he copied their laughter. “At least the drink is on the floor and I’m not wearing it like last time.” A wide grin pulling at his lips. “Fair enough, just a strong black coffee but I think you should throw in a breakfast wrap too for the trouble.” He teased, his grin shifting to a smirk as he chuckled.
The man had always been kind to her, one of the many reasons why continuously bumping into him was never a negative thing by any means. Iris nodded at his request and let out a small laugh. “I owe you probably more than that for the trouble, but I’ll take it. Black coffee and breakfast wrap coming right up.” She moved past him and walked into the cafe, thankful to see there was no line. Iris put in his order, ordering herself the same thing as well, and then turned to Atticus. “You have time to sit down with me?”

“Only if you’re sure.” Avery finally gave in with a smile and a nod of her head, her eyes watched as Iris effortlessly adjust a bouquet. The young girl wished she had eye for such things, hence why she always ended up in the flower shop asking for Iris’ creations. “How about to actually make it even, I bring you two, one tonight and one tomorrow?”
“You drive a hard bargain,” Iris joked and then cracked a smile. The younger girl was too kind for her own good, but that’s what Iris admired about her. Iris saw a bit of herself in her, remembering back to her early twenties while carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders all the while wearing a smile. “You have yourself a deal, doll.”

Athena shook her head with Iris’ question, sipping at her drink whilst she thought up a plan. “Okay, okay.” She began a few seconds later, putting her cup down. “How about I sail us out into open water and then let you take over from there? We’ll be far enough away from everyone that there will be no pressure and if it really is that bad then I’ll take over?”
Though the idea of being out in open water was slightly terrifying, she found herself still wishing to pursue it. Iris let out a sigh, mostly as a joke as if the woman was truly twisting her arm. “Okay, okay. I think you may have a deal,” she agreed and let out a laugh. “Have you ever thought of a career in sales? You’re hard to say no to.”

“They can’t be lonely if there are already three of them.” she pointed out with a teasing smile on her lips. She shook her head, she wasn’t surprised the other wasn’t changing her mind about the purchase and so she billed it for her. “Actually.” she looked at her watch before smiling up at the other. “It’s almost time to close up and my mom has Heather today so.. I have some time to spare now if you are free?” she suggested, although she wasn’t sure if Iris already had plans. “Can’t say no to flowers now, can I?”
“Don’t question my logic,” she responded with a laugh before paying for the plant. Carrying it in the crook of her arm, she propped it up with her hip as she listened to Hayley’s proposal. Iris smiled and knew it would be nice for the two of them to spend some time together. Hayley was someone she so easily got along with, so any chance to to steal that free time from her was one she took. “Of course! We can stop by my shop to get you your flowers. I’ll make em special for you.” She chuckled and nodded towards the door. “I’ll go wait outside. Take your time, though.” Lucky for them, her shop wasn’t too far of a walk away and her apartment wasn’t that far, either. These days, Iris found herself walking around town as much as she could. Mostly because her car was a piece of junk, but also because she liked how the small setting of Eastcliff.

Naeem stole a glance around the vicinity and nodded in agreement that it looked like no one else would be joining them. It was late, but if anyone knew anything about meteors they would know that darkest hours gave the best visibility. “Not a bad thing. That means more spectacle for us.” He replied with a smile, approaching closer to the picnic table and consequently the brunette on top of it. “It’s nice and dark up here. I think we have a good shot of seeing some awesome vapor trails.” Since they were going to be watching the show together, he thought it might be considerate to share his snacks. “Care for a Snowball?” He asked, brandishing a package of the halal snack cake he’d gone back to his car for. @irismason
Meteor showers made her feel nostalgic, and most nostalgic things were never positive in her case, but this was an exception. Iris was giddy thinking about seeing the sky light up, and she knew that she would likely find herself occasionally wishing on a star. Old habits die hard. As the man offered her a snack, she looked back over at him and smiled brightly. Though most knew not to always blindly trust strangers, Iris always found herself doing just that. Growing up in a small town in the south made her that way, so she took up his offer in a heartbeat. “I’d love one, actually,” she said as she moved to face him more. “I’m Iris, by the way. I don’t believe I caught your name.”

25. What was their childhood like?
There are times Iris is shocked that she and her siblings weren’t taken in by child protective services. Iris grew up on a trailer on some land past down to her single mother, and Iris and her siblings spent their time working with their mom to make what little money they could. claytonxbaker:
Clayton laughed softly, nodding his head a little. “I’ll have to keep that in mind, the last thing I’d want to do is not put food on your table.” He leaned down, putting an elbow down on the surface of the counter, his gaze lifting up towards her face as a smile came along his lips. “I was hopin’ you join me for dinner later.”
The woman smiled and busied her hands as she continued piecing together a bouquet she was working on. Rolling the stem of a flower between her fingers, she spun the flower a bit and stopped at his question. Truth be told, she hadn’t expected it. “Me?” she echoed as if he somehow could’ve been talking about someone else. She licked her lips in momentary thought and then smiled a bit. What was the harm in saying yes? “Umm... You know what, okay. Yeah, I’d love to.”

hayleysdavenports:
Hayley had noticed the woman browsing but had been with another customer to walk over to see what she was up to. She knew the chances of her leaving the store empty-handed was slim to none, even though she probably shouldn’t. And when she said goodbye to her previous customer, Iris had already walked up to her. A laugh left her lips as she spoke. “I should probably ban you from here for your own good.” she said with mock sternness before smiling again. “Really, why would I make fun of the customer who’s buying out all my stock?” she said teasingly before she carefully took the plant from her and placed it on the counter before she looked at her again. “You sure you want this, don’t you have like three already?”
Iris joined in on her laughter and shrugged her shoulders sheepishly. “Yes, but my other three are lonely.” As if the rest of her many plants didn’t keep it “company”. Leaning against the counter, she inspected the leaves of the plant and convinced herself once again that this purchase was justified. “You need to come by my place sometime and checkout all that I have. Plus, I’ve been meaning to give you some flowers from the shop, so now we definitely have to hang out soon.”

@atticusmercer | location: serenity cafe
Iris walked with her headphones on, stepping in beat to a tune by ABBA as she soaked in the momentary sun on her walk to Serenity Cafe. Just as she reached for the door to walk in, someone else seemed to be walking out. Absentminded and the lack of quick reflexes made her collide right into them, knocking whatever beverage they had right out of their hands. “No, no,” she quickly mumbled as the liquid pooled at their feet. She stepped back and took her headphones off. “I’m so sorry, I wasn’t paying attention and-” her rambles were cut short once she noticed who it was. It was none other than Atticus, the man she relentlessly crossed paths with time and time again. It felt like ages of serendipitous moments between the two and it didn’t go by unnoticed. Iris couldn’t help but laugh a little, although still embarrassed. “Of course it’s you. I’m like a magnet causing trouble for you... Please let me get you a new drink.”

Harley paused and peered back at the other with a wry brow. “Oh, I’ve broken someone’s heart but the flowers are for my kitchen. They die quickly and I love fresh flowers in my house.” She paused, turning back to the other. “But you’re a good added bonus as well!” She didn’t want the other to think that she was just here for the flowers, especially since she could buy them anywhere. “You have the best bouquets.” Mainly that was the reason why she came here above all else. No one made them quite like the way the Iris did. @irismason
Iris could relate all too well with that - well, the part about fresh flowers. The woman always had fresh flowers on her table ever since she was a little girl. Even when times were tough, it was the one thing she could find beauty in. Iris beamed at her compliment and she smiled wide. “Thanks, doll. I’ll make up one special for you, how bout that?”
