Text: PSA to anyone with a tree nut allergy who frequents starbucks. We have a new drink called the pistachio cold foam cold brew and our pistachio sauce not only has real pistachio in it, the syrup sticks inside the blender and will 100% not fully wash off with the rinsers we use (its just water). I highly suggest if you want a cold foam drink during Jan-March you request it done in a sanitized blender to lower the chance of having a reaction if you are at risk.

PSA that I feel we all need to hear, it’s not always your fault if your betta dies. You can literally give them the best quality of life, and they will still die, because they are so incredibly inbred and over produced that their genetics are shit. I’ve been keeping bettas for probably 6ish years now, and even with perfect parameters, a large tank, heaters and filters, they can still develop all sorts of illnesses. At the end of the day, all that matters is you provided them with a loving home, and that you cared for them as best you could.

This meme is a MURDER ATTEMPT.
Tumblr media
I am absolutely fucking serious. The original meme, without the big red denial, is someone's attempt to fucking kill people.
There is NO SAFE DOSAGE of pennyroyal oil. Even Mother Earth News says there's no reason to use pennyroyal essential oil for ANYTHING, even topically or as a fragrance, for fuckssake! That should give you some idea about how dangerous it is!
Pennyroyal tea, plant matter in hot water, is a traditional abortifacient. It is *incredibly* dangerous, induces abortion by bringing the body close to organ failure (and frequently pushing the system right over the edge, because dosage is impossible to meter), but I would drink a gallon of it before I took a half-teaspoon of pennyroyal essential oil.
Two teaspoons, taken across 48 hours, has successfully killed someone.
Three teaspoons taken as a single dosage killed the consumer within THREE HOURS.
There is NO SAFE DOSAGE! FOR PENNYROYAL OIL INTERNALLY! NONE!
The person who made this meme is PURPOSEFULLY, ACTIVELY, trying to get desperate people killed!

It’s actually a pretty bad idea to keep baby fish in smaller tanks.
Although it does *seem* like it would even out, babies require stable tanks due to their sensitivity. And unsurprisingly, it’s far easier to attain that in larger tanks. With small tanks (>5 gal) you can rarely keep the parameters the same at all times, and that can really stress babies as they’re still developing and likelier to catch diseases.
Sure, your tank will likely need some adjustments, but it’s still the best option in the long run.

New tank syndrome
If there haven't been enough beneficial bacteria established in an aquarium when fish are added, fish can die from ammonia and nitrite poisoning.
This is often called "new tank syndrome," and it can happen with uncycled or overstocked aquariums.
Fish waste creates ammonia (very toxic); beneficial bacteria eat the ammonia and produce nitrite (toxic); more bacteria convert nitrite to nitrates (less harmful).
In uncycled aquariums there will be a spike in ammonia from the newly added fish, but the beneficial bacteria will need time to establish.
Cycling an aquarium can take several weeks. It's important to test water parameters before adding fish. Ammonia and nitrite should always be 0, and there should be low levels of nitrates. Water changes and live plants help reduce excess nitrates.
⭐ Beneficial bacteria live on surfaces like substrate, decorations, and especially the filter (not in the water column).

OKAY PSA TIME
Goldfish CANNOT live in bowls.
They are meant to grow 1ft to 1.5ft long, and live AT LEAST 20 years. Look at this contrast photo between a baby goldfish and an adult
Tumblr media
Now, goldfish need, preferably, a MINIMUM of a 29 gallon tank, with 40+ being ideal, especially for multiple. These guys could also out shit an elephant, so you need to be very vigilant about water changes and have a good filtration system (water changes should NEVER be more than 30% of the water, unless dire circumstances. Even THEN, you NEVER want to drain 100% of the water)
"But don't they grow to the size of their tank?"
NO
Their OUTSIDE growth is stunted to an extreme degree, but their INSIDES keep growing until THEIR ORGANS RUPTURE. IT IS A VERY SLOW AND PAINFUL DEATH FOR THESE GUYS.
The myth that they can be kept in bowls can be traced back to ancient China. An emperor wanted to show off his very opulent goldfish to his party guests, but he couldn't exactly bring them all out to his pond and just point out the fish to everyone. So, they were scooped up into bowls and displayed that way before they were dumped back in their pond.
NEVER put a goldfish in a bowl. They very literally cannot survive.
"But what CAN live in a bowl?"
Plants. That's it. Maybe a couple tiny snails that hitched a ride on the plants. Not even betta fish. Sure, they can SURVIVE, but the quality of life will be abysmal and they will STILL die far before they would have otherwise had they been given proper care.
2.5 gallons is the MINIMUM suggested size for the average betta, with 5+ gallons being ideal. For example, here's my setup. It's 3 gallons.
Tumblr media
All the plants are live, and don't be intimidated by them. Most don't actually require any extra care! They also help keep the water parameters a bit more stable since they feed on nitrates.
Oh, yeah, remember that nitrogen cycle thing you learned about in high school that you never thought you'd use for literally anything? THE ENTIRE AQUARIUM HOBBY RUNS ON IT. Even a rudimentary understanding is good enough, you don't have to know the nitty gritty.
Please please PLEASE do your research before purchasing ANY living thing.
If anyone has specific questions, feel free to dm me!!!
I work at a pet store, and I thoroughly enjoy teaching anyone that's willing to learn!!!
EDIT: PLEASE reblog this, I want as many people to see this as possible

nobuddy feels like they have a sharp attention span these days, right? and we all just click “agree on terms of service” because its hard to love yourself sometimes, well
enter Terms of Service, Didn’t Read: a website and a browser addon that streamlines the terms of service of many popular web services to be read by the tech sunday drivers.
Tumblr media
It’s graded from A (great) to E (awful) and if you have the addon you have access to the info about the website on your bar
