made this with a pit of dread in my stomach. content warning for ableism directed towards children if you think about it for more than two seconds.

drawing this had me thinking about the logistics of a squip for kids. i think the biggest change would be A = the intelligence/level of free will the squip has and B = the duration. The squip would probably be more programmed towards a specific goal— that is, making the user a ““normal”” member of society. I also think theyd be programmed to stop working after a set time, so parents have more control over dosage. (why would we give neurodivergent children agency over themselves are you insane??)

the use of a cute mascot for some reason makes the squip more insidious to me. something about the mundanity, like it’d blend in on a store shelf, and yet it is used to cow neurodivergent children into submission, infecting their brain and forcing them into the mould society carved for them and whittling down their personhood. i think emphasizing the mundanity and corporateness of squips greatly increases the horror, as it is no longer afforded the curtain of science fiction, but forced into our reality and in turn we are made to reckon with the cruelty neurodivergent people are treated with. thanks for coming to my ted talk.*
