RIP to an absolute legend.
My personal favorite:

Rest in peace to a legend
Lived to 97 years old, invented the Jello Shot, Wrote some of the best satire I’ve ever heard.

“If after hearing my songs just one human being is inspired to say something nasty to a friend or perhaps to strike a loved one it will all have been worth the while.” - Tom Lehrer
Listen to Poisoning Pigeons in The Park, Listen to The Elements, Listen to The Masochism Tango. His contributions shall not be forgotten.

god I’d forgotten how much DC smells like weed
(no judgment- just the same as I don’t care to breathe cigarette smoke I don’t particularly want a secondhand high when I’m just trying to walk to a shop…)

7 days to go, here.
Half the house is in boxes (the other half gets packed up today) and despite having spent most of my life moving from place to place it never really gets easier. Certainly less so with both all of the job insecurity happening now in my current line of work - though my being overseas cushions me from that a little- and having to wrangle all the Big Feelings of Miss Q having to leave her friends.
I won’t miss the summers here, at least. Only 42C today. Balmy, really.

And another one:
Canon: a sanctioned or accepted group or body of related works (“I know it’s not game canon, but…”)
Cannon:

IT’S NOT ‘PEEKED’ MY INTEREST
OR ‘PEAKED’
BUT PIQUED
‘PIQUED MY INTEREST’
THIS HAS BEEN A CAPSLOCK PSA

Edge of the World/Tuwaiq mountains (Saudi Arabia)

(Yes, it’s as high as it looks. About 1km down…)

(There’s the “edge.” See the little stone point at the far end?)

(One obligatory shot of your intrepid photographer.)

I just wanted to take a moment and share how much I loved your writing! I've been spending more time on ao3 and swtor recently and your Cipher Nine/Theron Shan works are some of my all-time favorites! I love your characterization and your imperial agent
a) your username is fantastic
b) thank you so much for the kind words! I am still writing- very, very slowly. I've been staying offline a bit more over the last months; the nature of my current job and employer have gotten, um, interesting with the recent change in U.S. politics and I'm trying not to panic spiral and/or mouth off in ill-advised ways that, despite my social media being mostly pseudonymous, might still get me into trouble.. Rather like working for the Empire, actually.
But the next chapter is mostly done, though it's been mostly done for a while and may stay that way a little longer. Still here, though. And knowing people are still reading and enjoying what I do does make a huge difference.

Movie Tag Game
(tagged by: @keldae, @captainderyn and @swtorpadawan)
Rules: Without naming them, post a gif from ten of your favorite films, then tag ten people to do the same!
Tagging anyone who hasn't done this one yet (I've been swamped at work so I think it's made the rounds quite thoroughly already...)
#thanks for the tags#these are in no particular order#though it should surprise no one that star wars makes multiple appearances

A Story (about the time I met Carrie Fisher)
I know I told this, sort of, in August at the time that it happened, but I’ve been thinking about it a lot today.
I was working at Wizard World Chicago in August 2016, so I had some extra money to spend as I was on an exhibitor pass. I couldn’t pass up a Carrie Fisher autograph so I bought a ticket, but I waited too long and ended up in group B on Saturday afternoon.
Group B was supposed to start at 5:00 PM. I got in line at 4:30 and waited. And waited. And waited. The convention floor closed at 7 PM; I (hi, line friends) waited. She’d been signing autographs, more or less, since 10 AM. We could see Gary next to her, his tongue sticking out.
I got to the front of the line at around eight o’clock at night. I was tired; I’d been working the booth all day and perpetual cheerfulness is exhausting. I can only imagine how tired she must have been. “No personalizations,” said the assistant as I handed her the book I’d brought to have signed, which I understood (I was the front of Group B, and there were easily another fifty people at least behind me).
A minute later, I was standing in front of Carrie Fisher. I’m pretty sure, being a creature of vast social awkwardness, I made a stupid joke about being on the wrong side (I was wearing my Imperial Officer uniform).
She looked up at me, opened the book, and said, “They’re trying to stymie me. I will not be stymied. Who would you like this made out to?”
I will not be stymied. A life in five words, and all I can say is that I’m so, so very glad I stayed in line.

(Not even a little bit smarter than you, but-)

Obviously this doesn’t have an equivalent in classical armoring, or really even in fashion- but looking at this it could be one of a few things. Is it an abdominal plate with an extension, overlaid on a fabric tabard? It could all be one belt, but that would be hard to put on. I’d hazard that piece might hook on to the front somewhere.
None of the words I might use for it flow terribly well, I’m afraid. (Just don’t call it a codpiece, please. I hate that word.)

People smarter than me! (which is most of you right now. I work online retail and it is our busiest time of year and I am exhausted)
For fic related purposes I need to know what this is called. I cannot remember for the life of me and I don't just want to call it a 'belt'
(The fic related purposes are taking the damn thing off of him so he and Rook can bang)
Help a hippo out?
#dragon age veilguard#thievinghippo#costume stuff#ah the joys of making up names for fantasy armor bits
