But did Epic Calypso really act in an abusive way towards Odisseus during those seven years on Ogygia?
I don't know, does Odysseus look like he shared seven years in there with a friend? Does he sound like he wants to spend one more second with Calypso? Because normally in fantasy stories when two prisoners share years in the same space, if they are on the same ground, they develop a bond. They share, they talk, they become friends. When one gets freed, they'll at least wish they could take the other with them.
Why does Odysseus feel he has the need to threaten Calypso with killing her? Why is he suicidal and begs her to give him space? Why doesn't he feel sad for leaving Calypso behind? Well, he's so particular and also tummy hurts. Or, something is off with Calypso.
I will not psychoanalyze fictional characters. I'm just saying Calypso is one of the monsters Odysseus is meant to endure on his trip home. Whatever name you want to put on the way she hurt Odysseus, her role as a character is not a companion.
Now, this is the part where I get serious. What moves me to write this is not that I care immensely about Odysseus, again, a fictional character. It's that our attitude towards Calypso mirrors the attitude society has toward abusive situations. Where instead of focusing on the victim's experience, we'll trust our eyes and ears more to decide things happened/didn't happen, when we were never there in the first place to witness them. You have a person, a second person who's clearly uncomfortable and avoidant towards them, and you'll say "but I didn't see it happen". Or, "but they are so loved by the community!"
So, idk. I will not try and draw a huge conclusion here. Just give it a thought.

Hera: With war about to break out, we need to start thinking about strategy. In that case, I’ll defer to you- Are there any heroes you have an eye on?
Athena: Oh, I’m delighted you asked!
Athena: (slams two full four inch binders on the table)
Athena: So, this here is Diomedes, King of Argos. Now I know he’s seems a bit young, but he has more experience than most of the others put together! Here, have a look over his resume.
Hera: My goodness, taking Thebes, and at such a young age? That is noteworthy. A good choice, I think. Is there anyone else?
Athena: Yes! This is Odysseus. He’s is the King of Ithaca and he lies constantly.
Hera:
Athena: It’s hilarious.
Hera: Well, maybe he’s more impressive in person. I’ll just go down and take a peek-
Hera: Athena, I don’t wish to alarm you, but your mortal has yoked a donkey to an ox, and is sowing salt into the beach. Stark naked.
Athena: Oh, don’t worry about that. He’s only pretending to be mad. He doesn’t want to go to war, and is trying to get out of it.
Hera:
Athena: Obviously I’m not going to let him get away with it, but isn’t that clever of him?!

Penelope!!!! (If she was in Hades 2)
Tumblr media
The location I would put her in doesn’t exist in the game yet, but I tried to do a bit of a background.
Tumblr media
Personally I would understand if Penelope doesn’t actually show up in Hades 2, there’s so much going on in the game already, buuuut if she was there….
I think there’s a lot of fun metaphor in unraveling the day’s weavings as a form of turning back the clock, hence “Witch of Unwinding”. Penelope isn’t referred to as a witch in any myths that I know of, but for various reasons I think it’s a fun change.

(Odysseus steps out of his chambers in Ithaca. Sees a bone.)
Odysseus (scratching his head): That's the sixth one this week. Athena.
Athena (appearing): Yes?
Odysseus: I thought all the suitors were dead.
Athena: They are.
Odysseus (points at the bone): Then do you know who keeps leaving these? Are they a kind of threat or something?
Athena (in realization): Oh, those! No, they're not threats. Those are from Ares.
Odysseus: What?
Athena: He's a fan of yours now. That's how he says he likes you.
Odysseus:...by leaving bones?
Athena: I can call him over here if you want.
Odysseus (quickly): No that's okay--(fails to stop her)
(Ares appears and waves)
Athena (to Ares): He's curious about the bones you keep giving him.
Ares (sadly to Odysseus): You don't like them?
Odysseus (unsurely): N-no, they're great. I just...wanted to know who to thank.
Ares (happily): Good, because I've got more for you!
(A pile of bones drops into Odysseus's arms. Ares waves again and vanishes.)
Odysseus: Do you know why this is his way of showing approval?
Athena: I try not to ask.

OMG, I LOVE YOUR INTERPRETATION!! I also thought it would give new meaning to the question after, "How will you sleep at night?" it's not solely out of spite and taunting. It's out of curiosity, too. How does that mortal cope with that? Perhaps Poseidon needs some tips, too 🤷
I actually don’t see Poseidon’s “please” in 600 Strike as a pleading.
“Didn’t you say that ruthlessness is mercy upon our—” “Alright! Please…”
The reason he interrupted before Odysseus ever finishing the sentence was never because he couldn’t take the torture anymore. No, he shut Odysseus up because the latter was now using his very words that he was proud of against him—the teachings of ruthlessness. Something he wasn’t used to hear from another person’s mouth—not especially from Odysseus. It sickened him, it disgusted him to hear his own teachings getting back at him, and it hurt him more than anything else.
So he spat the word, “please”, as in “oh please. Just spare me the lesson”. He found his ego hurt, and this was the only way he could retrieve it—even though it might or might not sound like pleading, he only needed to know that behind the mask of fragility, he could at least recognize himself as the morally superior one—and that was enough for him, for now.
Just like Odysseus hiding all his wrath beneath a simple “but not in the way that you want me to” in Not Sorry For Loving You.
