I saw the trailer for the new Bundy movie and I can’t get behind it. It seems to be romanticizing his crimes and almost painting him as a normal, happy go lucky father who just happened to kill people in his spare time. I’m not feeling it. He murdered people and those people have families. I would be livid if my loved one was taken in a senseless act and then they made a movie glorifying the guys actions. I’m perturbed by this movie. Sorry, rant over. Would love to know your opinion!
I didn’t get the impression that the movie would be glorifying him but portraying him how he was. You need to remember the film is based on Elizabeth Klopefer’s book and during their relationship, he was just a normal guy to her. Ted Bundy was charming, attractive and on the surface, a normal hard-working guy, and that’s exactly why nobody could believe he was a serial killer; some even believed he was innocent up until he finally confessed. He compartmentalised his life. On one hand, he was a charismatic, charming, attractive law student. On the other, he was a deplorable and cruel serial killer.
That’s the entire point of the movie - to show that serial killers aren’t necessarily unattractive, stupid monsters foaming at the mouth but can be seemingly normal people just like you or I. One huge mistake people can make is assuming that only inhumane, demonic, monsters are capable of committing heinous murders. That mindset is exactly why nobody believed Bundy was a serial killer.
Moreover, we’ve only seen a trailer so far. Presumably, the movie is going to show his violent side along with the murders and not just the side to him we see in the trailer. I imagine the film-makers plan on reeling the audience in with this real believable and charismatic character and then have them feeling deceived - like his victims did - when they find out about his brutal crimes. I won’t really have an opinion until the film is released.

“And,“ she said, “if you have someone who stays up with you in the middle of the night to make sure you’re okay - somebody who answers your calls at 2 or 3 or 4am - someone who listens to your sobs, or your silence, or your words with patience, you have somebody who loves you. And you’re lucky for it. And no matter how dark things get, you shouldn’t forget that.”
