Thank you for sharing your story 🫂. I was also assumed to be perisex when I was younger but acted more like a boy, thus treated that way. Along with this, I didn’t pass well as a girl, so I was assumed to be a boy by some. It makes sense why you wouldn’t feel trans because of your experience being raised like a boy. That is completely okay and valid! I have trouble personally connecting with trans guys because of my experience of being raised stealth as a guy from a young age.
Why your definition of being trans is exclusionary
I will be touching on the definition of trans being described to be “identifying differently from how you were assigned at birth”.
Side note: I know this is different from the intersex awareness I post, but I have a platform here and I feel like I need to talk about this. This is something that directly impacts me.
Why this affects intersex trans people
Intersex people do not have very black and white situations when it comes to their gender—especially trans intersex people.
AGAB does not always line up with biology. There are intersex people who are biologically one thing, but assigned another due to corrective surgery—but they will go through their biological puberty. This is only one example, as there are many many complicated situations for many different intersex people, but I hope this gets the point across.
Some people are raised differently from what they were assigned at birth
This is also a situation that can apply to intersex people, but not exclusively. Some people will be assigned one thing at birth but raised as another for any complicated reason. Or some people, like me, will transition very young and experience childhood—and a very long time—as that gender.
How this affects retrans people
Yes, retrans (retransitioned) people can be trans if they identify that way. You may be confused—asking, “If they just identify as what they were born as again, how are they not cis?”; well, retrans people have a trans experience. However, they can identify as cis if they would like to. Many don’t feel cis though. Sometimes their new identity doesn’t feel the same as it was once before. It’s something new, a new experience. Many have to go through the process of coming out again, many have to medically transition to align with their new identity; it isn’t black and white at all. Along with this, retrans women can, usually will experience transmisogyny—I’d consider it cruel to exclude them from trans spaces. Retrans people can experience trans struggles, they can experience dysphoria, and they need the support.
That being said, there are AFAB transfems, AFAB trans women, AMAB transmacs, and AMAB trans men.
Many situations are not black and white. Many situations are complicated. We must keep an open mind to that and respect people for who they are.
I hope this was easy to understand. If you have questions, that’s okay. Please, just remain respectful.
Love love. Take care of yourself. I know struggles with gender identity are hard and complicated, especially to do it alone. Find help and community if you need it, it’s out there. You’re not alone. ❤️

You should include intersex people in your activism not bc we prove bio essentialists are wrong but bc we are people who deserve rights 👍

I failed to acknowledge that perisex people can also use hormones and I apologize
AMAB people can go on testosterone. AFAB people can go on estrogen. Remember that intersex people fucking exist. Some of us are FORCED to do hrt to align with what we were assigned at birth. THINK ABOUT US.

Biology classes need to teach about intersex people and people with chromosome variations . ‘But it’s too advanced for basic stuff’ I don’t care. Our existance should be recognized. If we have to learn about our variations when we get diagnosed I promise people can handle learning of at least our existance

im just wondering, what is the argument against pcos being considered intersex? its commonality? the fact some people with pcos dont consider themselves to be intersex? because neither are valid arguments as to why pcos can never be considered intersex, theyre just personal qualms.
if the argument is "pcos only shows signs in puberty," i think those people need to learn about more intersex variations. NCAH is literally required to only start showing signs at puberty but it is inarguably an intersex variation.
is the only difference that pcos affects about 10% of women? who cares. not every person with pcos has hyperandrogenism and not every person with hyperandrogenism is going to identify as intersex.
theyre not ~taking our resources~, because firstly what intersex resources ARE there? hormones? i got news for you, pcos is treated with hormones just like most other intersex variations that cause hormonal imbalance.

Here's your reminder that AFAB doesn't mean that person has breasts and a vagina. That AMAB doesn't mean that person has a flat chest and a dick.
AFAB PEOPLE CAN HAVE DICKS.
AFAB PEOPLE CAN HAVE FLAT CHESTS.
AFAB PEOPLE CAN HAVE BEARDS.
AFAB PEOPLE CAN HAVE DEEP VOICES
AMAB PEOPLE CAN HAVE TITS
AMAB PEOPLE CAN HAVE PUSSIES
AMAB PEOPLE CAN HAVE CURVES
AMAB PEOPLE CAN HAVE HIGH-PITCHED VOICES
Don't let AMAB and AFAB become the progressive binary

Perisex allies: stop this shit
CW: intersexism
Came across this infographic during some google image searching and I'm still kind of a state of despair about it because it's not just offensively wrong about what intersex is, it was used to teach university students about queer issues:
Alt text: LGBTQIA+ are defined one by one. Intersex is defined erroneously as "These are people who were born with genital organs of both sexes (male and female). It is a genetic condition."
It's one thing for your rando perisex person to be getting this wrong on social media. It's another thing entirely when it's professionals getting this wrong in an educational setting. 😩 And that this infographic appears in a peer-reviewed publication. 😩
It's even worse to know the students that were taught with this infographic were medical students, who will be the ones traumatizing intersex people for decades to come 😩
It's so wrong in so many different ways:
Intersex is not limited to people with genital differences. Most intersex people have intersex variations that are not apparent at birth, with puberty being the most common time of life for variations to present. Many people find out in adulthood having no outward physical differences.
Of the intersex people with genital differences, they do not have two sets of genitals. Most genital differences are still recognizably female or male (e.g. spadias), and those who have ambiguous genitals have one set.
Intersex is not "male parts + female parts" or even "intermediate male/female parts", it is an umbrella term for anybody whose primary/secondary sex characteristics don't line up with what is expected for male and female bodies. Some intersex variations make women look more feminine, or make men look more masculine.
Defining intersex by genital differences doesn't just exclude most intersex people, it also sets the tone that we are defined by our genitals. To be publicly intersex is to have non-stop DMs about your genitals. This sort of framing sets up openly intersex people for invasive questions and harassment, and it keeps large numbers of intersex people from coming out.
Many intersex variations do not have a known genetic basis. Many intersex variations are caused by exposure to certain hormonal levels in the womb. Certain medications when taken during pregnancy can trigger intersex variations.
While bodily variation is necessary for being intersex, the social experience of stigma, discrimination, isolation, hyper-medicalization, and hyper-sexualization are all just as much a part of being intersex.
📣 Perisex allies: this is shit you can stop. When you see other perisex people parrot this sort of misinformation, correct them. Direct them to look up resources written by actually intersex people.
Here are some starter resources to give:
Intersex explained by Hans Lindahl
Media and style guide by IHRA
FAQ by intersex-support
A recent post I did compiling information for trans people who want to be better intersex allies

get rid of the idea that in order to be intersex you have to have masculinizing affects as a person assigned female at birth, and that in order to be intersex you have to have feminizing affects as a person assigned male at birth .
there IS such a thing as having hyperfemizing traits as an afab person, and there IS such a thing as having hypermasculine traits as an amab person . these do indeed make you intersex .
if these are your ONLY perception of intersex people, please learn about the conditions and syndromes that cause such an affect .
