I believe we have a choice in this world about how to tell sad stories. On the one hand, you can sugar coat it. The way they do in movies and romance novels. Where beautiful people learn beautiful lessons. Where nothing is too messed up that can’t be fixed with an apology and a Peter Gabriel song. I like that version just as much as the next girl does, believe me. It’s just not the truth. This is the truth… sorry.

What makes life valuable is that it doesn’t last forever, what makes it precious is that it ends. I know that now more than ever. And I say it today of all days to remind us that time is luck. So don’t waste it living someone else’s life, make yours count for something. Fight for what matters to you, no matter what. Because even if you fall short, what better way is there to live?

It will be difficult to break the habits of thinking  Abnegation instilled in me, like tugging a single thread from a complex work of embroidery. But I will find new h a b i t s, new    t h o u g h t s, new r u l e s. I will become something else.
