People always seem to quote Martin Luther King Jr. as either “full-on pacifist” or “let’s go all violent on them bitches”, when the reality of the man is a person who saw the injustices suffered by black community and explained the consequences of allowing it to continue, and thus acted upon to promote better treatment. Like, he never once pushed for riots to occur. He only expressed why they happen as a consequence of the current human rights issues and advocated change regarding said rights for the better of his fellow black community.

It wasn’t “riots are good” or “riots are bad”; it’s “Riots happen because you didn’t listen. It’s a final resort and is always catastrophic so ideally it shouldn’t happen but when it does, there’s no one to blame but yourself for not acting sooner”.

My favourite genre of movie is 'vapid girly teen flicks from the 90's and early 00's that actually have important feminist and socially conscious messages'.

Some examples;

Don't be afraid to break the pointless and sexist rules society has imposed upon you, especially if they stand between you and your dreams.

Learn to recognise your self worth beyond the trappings of success.

Recognising and working to correct your white privilege, is not only the right thing to do morally, but will also lead to a more diverse and exciting playing field.
