im doing a year abroad/erasmus in ireland and i have never been happier!
talking english all day is a fun brain gymnastics, im happy i can finally practice my speaking! i was lacking a day-to-day feel for english.
also i absolutely love the way we’re learning japanese here (how surprising, im not pressured like my life depends on it) and feel like im doing much more progress although i have WAY LESS hours. not being knocked out by endless classes actually makes me want to work during my free time (´・_・`)
HOWEVER ancient greek…. the switch from french to english is brutal. vocabulary and grammar-terms wise. they’re almost the same but somehow my brain short circuits every second?
and on a more personal level, the wildlife im able to see everyday is the biggest change in my life. i got a bike so im super glad not to have to rely on public transport… (f you bus eireann). i ride next to a river, and see a lot of herons, ducks, swans, i even saw an otter!! and so many horses (and lamas?)
when i come back late at night, i get to see countless rabbits and mice, a fox, and i also keep meeting a badger that gets spooked by me sometimes (i get to see him waddle away when he does hehe), but he mostly doesn’t give a shit. i almost got attacked by an owl?? scary but i want to see the diva again
and all day, everyday, so many crows!! there’s none in my area in france, i’ve always loved them so this is a blessing. they’re so cute! i love playing with reflecting lights from my watch with them (idk how to phrase this. when sun rays hit whatever glass thing, and it reflects as a spot of light that you can direct anywhere? does this make sense?). now i’ve got to really make friends and feed them some nuts
im not used to seeing so many animals and it truly makes me so happy and grateful i can see them! it cheers me up on my way to class and after my late study sessions. adapting back to big city life after this will be so hard ( ´_ゝ`)
#random life stuff#ireland i love you#so mad i couldn’t take a modern irish module because of my credits#the marking system is killing me though#as are accommodation prices#why so expensive

I saw the headline of that new marie kondo article that’s goes ‘mk admits to giving up on tidying up after her third child’ on twitter with just hundreds of people yelling about ‘vindication’ in the comments below, and I was like… I’m willing to bet actual money that the article is really about her priorities changing and that she still enjoys tidying up, but her approach to and amount of time spent on it has been altered because she’d rather spend time with her children? sooo I skimmed the article and I’m not saying somebody owes me money but somebody definitely should.
I wish I could say that I’m shocked that people on the internet would - still - be so erroneously outraged over an asian woman politely suggesting you treat yourself and your home with kindness (because your home has an enormous effect on your mental and physical health) while giving you tips on how to organise your home in small, achievable ways that you can adapt to suit your needs and wants, but I’ve been on the internet way too long for that.
she taught me several small tips that I still use in my everyday life and find hugely helpful, especially as a neurodivergent person who’s definitely not a minimalist. anyway, I hope marie kondo has a good day.

japanese study update ! ƪ(‾.‾“)┐
i ended up not making this update at the end of the weekend as i planned.. welp!
i had my first test yesterday, which didn't go so well at all 乁( •_• )ㄏ but helped me realise what's the best way for me to learn kanjis!! (just writing them over and over with the pronunciation next to it instead of relying on the obenkyo app from the beginning... because only seeing the translation of the word made me remember the pronunciation&kanji. the app is still very useful but only for REVIEWING)
i made a study plan for the week because i struggled to do my homework since i was so focused on japanese grammar. hope it helps me manage my time more efficiently!
ressources i used :
- japanese ammo with misa : a youtube channel, i really like her explanations and her beginner series has helped me tons. i watch her videos everyday on speed x2
- miku real japanese : a youtube channel as well, i only watched a video on て form verbs but it was quite useful.
finally, i gave a pep talk to myself and i vowed to study as hard as i could because i really don't want to fail my classes. i could technically repeat the year but it would take a toll on my mental health so.... i'll study hard this semester! ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ

So I'm reading for an art history class, and Baudrillard is talking about the trends in colour usage from generation to generation (mostly in interior design, but there's definite spillover into fashion, architecture, etc.), and how every new colour movement is a direct rebellion against the previous one, like how the bright colours of the 60s/70s were a direct response to the austerity and seriousness of the WWII/postwar era, and how a shift back to organized, moralistic neutrals were a direct rejection of 60s/70s gaudiness, etc., and that all makes sense, people find their parent's style tacky, sure
But he goes on to observe how we've now been stuck in a lull of pasty tones and naturalistic finishes for some time, and I'm thinking yes, he's so right, but that's weird, because its been hanging around for so long, like what is it rebelling against anymore? What is it answering to? Well all I had to do was be patient because lo and behold, Baudrillard provides the following sentence, which caused me to completely wig out:
"...except of course, for the spheres of advertising and commerce, where colour's power to corrupt enjoys full rein"
And I'm like ooohhhhHHHHHH, so this colourless minimalist wasteland of a design principle:
Is maybe hanging on so stubbornly because this corporate hellscape:
is assaulting all of our eyes, inside and outside of our homes, every waking second, and is tainting the very concept of colour into something we can't relax around in our living spaces.

As a Dungeon Master and Storyteller, whilst I’m significantly better than I was at level 3, I wish I’d had more time honing my craft. I think this works well for those who doubt themselves.
