a really great organization that i don't see any posts about here is HEAL palestine. it was founded by steve sosebee, who was a founding president of the PCRF before leaving in late 2023 to refocus his efforts on heal palestine to better meet the needs of palestinians impacted by the genocide. the organization provides palestinians in gaza with food, clean water, shelters, "makeshift classrooms," and even medical evacuation for some children when it's possible--their services are pretty wide.

you can donate here if you would like to send a tax-deductible donation to an organization. also, i don't think any evacuations are possible right now, but if you're in the united states and you'd like to welcome medically evacuated children in the future, i highly recommend signing up for their newsletter or following them on social media so you can stay updated in case any children evacuated by HEAL come to your area for treatment. welcoming these kids at the airport is a really moving way to provide them with moral support, entirely for free.

sending love to those who struggle with the holidays. to those who have lost their family. to those who are from abusive homes. those who are struggling mentally. in a rough spot financially. those who are neurodivergent & easily overwhelmed. and to those who just plain don't enjoy them.

i hope you can smile genuinely, and feel some love. i hope they pass uneventfully, and your transition to the next year is smooth and full of warmth <3

On the night of December 24th, many towns of the Alacant area of the Valencian Country have the tradition of lighting torches made of esparto grass and aromatic herbs like lavender, rosemary and thyme.

People, especially children, go outside and swing these torches to make them spin like a wheel in order to keep the flame burning, and they sing Christmas carols.

This kind of torches are called aixames or fatxos, so the night is called Nit dels Fatxos (torches’ night) or Rodà de les Aixames (torch spinning).

To the trans people who are forced to be back home with bigoted families these holidays: please know that you are loved. The real you, not what you do to survive through time with your family. One day you will be free o.e day you won't have to hide who you are, and one day you can cut these people out of your life if you want. Just hold on, I promise you that you'll get through this. I love you. Stay strong.
