Gotta love the Ace Attorney Found Family model of
-Adopted Father Figure who is kind of a dramatic cryptic asshole who is secretly pulling the strings to everything, simultaneously very stupid and very smart (Phoenix and Sholmes)
-His adopted daughter who is scarily competent and the actual breadwinner (Trucy and Iris)
-The guy in his twenties who she adopted into the family without his consent, he is trying his best to do his job but everyone around him is kind of a mess (Apollo and Ryunosuke)
-Father Figure's long-distance husband, his perfect other half, his partner, and sole owner of the braincell (Edgeworth and Yujin)
-Father Figure's Long Distance Husband's Daughter who is probably committing a crime but with good intentions and could probably beat anyone up (Kay and Susato)
-Adoptive brother's boyfriend who serves cunt and has psychological issues (Klavier and Kazuma)
-The Sapphic Little Detective that they found on the street who has been acquitted of all murder charges (Ema and Gina)
-Adopted Daughters secret blood relative who is mostly absent (Thalassa and Barok)
-Dog (Pess and Toby)
-Cat (Mikeko and Wagahai)
It's the perfect format really...

I love Phoenix Wright's complete lack of empathy.
I love how he is mean and demeaning. I love how he thinks everyone around him is stupid.
I love how he doesn't actually care about his clients, not most of them, anyway, but he defends them because he knows it is the right thing to do.
I love how there are like three or four people he actually cares about, and he doesn't give a flying fuck about anyone else.
I love how he gets kind of obsessed about them.
I love how he is quick to love, how he melts the moment anyone gives him any sort of positive attention, to his own detriment.
I love how he gets depressed when he is alone, how closed off he is to the people around him, rarely ever talking about himself, hiding information until it is imposible for him to keep doing it.
I love that he can be conniving and sneaky and stingy.
I love how he, too, struggles with black and white thinking.
I love how despite all of this, Phoenix Wright is still fundamentally, to his core, a good person. He is overwhelmingly kind, and honest, and self-sacrificial. He has strong morals and he sticks to them with an iron grasp, he sticks to them until they break him. Phoenix wakes up every day and instead of choosing violence he chooses to help people in need, even if he personally dislikes them, even if they have betrayed him in the past.
I love how he looks painfully normal at first glance.
And then you get hit with whatever is wrong with him.

This scene means so much to me. It adresses Phoenix's obsession over saving people, and that includes the fact that Phoenix felt responsible for saving Miles - but he's no hero, all he could do was... give Miles the 'truth'. 'You were the one who taught me how'... Miles had to leave in order to change, to save himself from what he was becoming. He wasn't Phoenix's responsability, he couldn't be. But it was thanks to the 'truth' Phoenix gifted him that Miles could find (and save) himself. I intended to add the EN version as well for comparison but tumblr doesn't like multiple videos-posts. I wanted to mention this version difference though, since Edgeworth straight-up says the following at the end:
EN 'Thank you Edgeworth. You know, I like the new you.' 'You helped me find myself, so thank you.' JP 'Mitsurugi... You've gotten stronger.' 'You were the one who taught me how.'

from one of the tweets in this post by @kilometresrufflefuck that I just HAD to draw because it got stuck in my brain :) when the Dark Age of the Law is over, the defence and prosecution are supposedly meant to be working together to find the truth, right? so why can't Pheonix "phone a friend (husband)" mid trial if he gets stuck???

99% of what I read is angst but you know what my secret favorite fanfiction category is? Outsider POV. I love a good fic where we’re in the perspective of characters who have no idea what the fuck is going on and are stuck watching our MCs be absolutely ridiculous. I love every version of this trope. It could be mostly text based. It could be mostly social media based. As long as it checks the boxes? I’m all in. You don’t understand. I think the first one of these I read was with Sam and Dean Winchester as kids in school from the perspective of a guidance counselor. I have been ruined. I have read every fic I could find with the premise of SkyGem’s Retirement AU (Yuri On Ice). I read White Collar DC crossover fanfiction despite not knowing or caring about White Collar because I treat it like outsider POV fanfictions with a fun identity reveal element. My favorite My Hero Academia fanfiction of all time is entirely made up of social media bit and bobs (tumblr posts, twitter posts, text message chains, etc). I am currently reading a Carmen Sandiego fic like this and it is such a crack fic. It is so unserious. I can’t put it down. I am so hooked.
