Member Exhibition

I met up with Steven in protect rooms he was moving some of the art work form the studio space to the Gallery on the 2nd floor in a trolly. I was helped moving the work down stairs to the Gallery space where the artist work was being laid out in the middle of the room. We placed the work around the room. I enjoyed this part of the day it was good to be part of the lay out and being asked what my thoughts were on the composition of the exhibition.

I enjoyed hanging the canvases. I was a little apprehensive about the hanging. But the work I hung was done well and this gave me confidence to do more. The team helping were very friendly and informative about any questions I had. I was given plenty of time for rest breaks and lunch break.

During this visit, to assist as part of my creative industry placement. I was asked to help by finding a disposal company that could remove some old items for studio space.

Exhibition Artist Joy Beak

On this visit to the project room I was asked to help with setting out of refreshments for the guests attending the exhibition. I also had the pleasure of meeting with the exhibiting artist Joy Beak and discussing her work. I was delighted to be asked to invigilate on her opening’s day later in the week.

Invigilating

I had a good day invigilating Joys exhibition she was very encouraging. She asked to see some of my work. I showed her digital images of my paintings and pencil work, She was very positive about what I showed her. It was very nice to have a successful working artists taking an interest and being so encouraging. I enjoyed invigilating spending time with the visitors that came along. I had lots of time through the day to look closely at joys work which I enjoyed immensely.

Below, Joys Work and flyer on her exhibition. Joys work has encouraged me to develop a 3D piece as part of my own work using string in college.

Refurbishment Quotes

Measuring up and pricing enquiry for the Gallery refurbishments. On this visit to the Project Room Teri asked me if I would obtain quotes for painting and renewing the lighting in the Gallery space. I measured the area and looked at the location of the lighting. Teri provided me with a printed floor plan. I measured the rooms floor space and position of the lighting. I recorded the details on the floor plan. Then spent a day calling contractors. and looked for suitable lights online.

I have collected the following information concerning the improvements for the gallery space.

I have contacted some contractors and did some looking online for light fittings.

I sent images of the space to quite a few companies who may be able to carry out installation of lighting.

I had a reply from NGA electricals based in the Glasgow area. They would be able to provide a quote for installation. They have asked if they could arrange a time to come and view the space to enable them to provide an accurate quote. I told them I would contact you with their information and someone would get back to them in due course.

I also had a reply from a Glasgow based company called, A Splash of Colour concerning the painting of the studio floor and walls. From the images I sent them they have asked what level work is required as the columns were looking kind of rough. I told them that I think it would require a clean, painting and freshen up of walls, ceiling and floor, with a colour match for the floor in the light grey colour it currently is and any preparation it may need .I also asked them if they could recommend any electrical fitters to carry out the electrical works. They said they often work with an electrical contractor who would be able to look at the lighting work with a view to a quote for that part of the job.

I will get back to you on this when the other companies I contacted call me too.

I will be available next week Monday - Friday for any placement hours you may be able to provide.

Conor Baird Exhibition

On this visit to project rooms I was asked to come along to an Exhibition By Artist Connor Baird to help out with the laying out of refreshments .i spent a lot of time chatting to Stephen and Fraser from the project rooms .They were discussing the protect room proposals for exhibiting artist .

It was a very informative chat where learned a lot about how decision are made about they decide what artis should have a slot for exhibition.

Placement. It was interesting to discover the process which is done through groups discussion and a scoring system that is then talked about to come to a fair decision.
