okay I’ll say it nicer:
australia was colonised according to the myth of terra nullius (or empty land). ever since the very early days of colonialism, the land has been framed as something untameable and unliveable. this has justified acts of violence against the first peoples here, in that they are seen as non-people. it has justified the destruction of sacred land in the goal of making australia look more european. (an example: our capital city contains a man-made lake that is now nothing better than a fetid carp pond. it’s disgusting and unnatural). basically, the idea of “taming australia’ has justified endless harm
“everything in australia is weird and dangerous” is not just some silly meme phrase, it is something that arcs back to the very beginning of white settlers laying claim to ‘australia’. and personally I am very sick of seeing it thrown around like it means nothing

Help Maryams Family Reach Safety
Each day that the occupation continues is another day that Palestinians will need our help and support to see their land and people freed. I know you have seen many posts like this, but please, I ask you to take a moment out of your day to stop and read this one. Yusra and her family need your help. 🙏
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yusra is a mother, and wants to get her and her daughter Maryam out of Gaza and into Egypt to be able to rebuild their lives. Her daughter was doing very well in school and had dreams and wishes for her life. Yusra was working hard, you can see her work in these pictures, to create a stable life for herself and her daughter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yusra and Maryam are now forced to live in fear, first fleeing to Yusra's parents' home, then to multiple shelters, and being displaced to Rafah and most recently to Khan Younis. The family has been displaced four times in total, and under conditions where they have limited access to water, food, power, and internet, and while under the threat and fear of bombing and Israeli attacks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Can you imagine living with no access to basic necessities, while being terrified that you may not see tomorrow? Knowing that your child isn't safe, but being powerless to protect her? What crime have Yusra and Maryam committed? Any human being can recognize this injustice. Let your anger move you to make a difference, and contribute to Yusra's campaign. She worked hard to support her family and provide her daughter with a peaceful childhood, but after October, their hopeful future was stolen from them ... will you help them take it back?
$0 / $30,000 (new campaign!)
Verification: Yusra is a friend of Doaa @dodooomar, who is verified by 90-ghost here.

"Prison cells are disproportionately stacked with poor, disabled, Black, and Brown people; Black trans women, who are often at the intersection of all of these identities, are the most overrepresented group inside prison walls. A study by the National Center for Transgender Rights and the National LGBTQ Task Force found that almost half of Black trans women in the United States have been incarcerated. Once inside, their abuse rates are extreme. The abolitionist group Black & Pink surveyed 1,100 queer and trans people in lockup, and one out of three described being assaulted by prison staff. Groups like Black & Pink and the Transgender, Gender Variant, and Intersex Justice Project (TGIJP) have made themselves known to the system, so the system must employ ever more devious ways to cloak the abuses."
Toshio Meronek, January 2023. Excerpt from the introduction of the book Miss Major Speaks: Conversations with a Black Trans Revolutionary, authored by Toshio Meronek and Miss Major.

daily reminder to respect closed practices and understand there are spiritual, physical, and mental consequences for violating cultural boundaries. unless you are Mexican, belong to an Indigenous Pueblo in Mexico, or are reconnecting in a respectful way, there is no reason to celebrate dia de muertos or make an ofrenda. research your own cultures and make an altar that’s traditional to YOUR people. stop appropriating. y’all ain’t entitled to our cultures and practices. as my wise friend explained: when you make an ofrenda you are opening up a portal and if you don’t know what you’re doing you can get hurt. respect closed practices. and just because a few people belonging to the culture will tell you it’s ok to appropriate doesn’t mean you should. center Indígena and Mexican voices and stop appropriating.

Today, Ociel Baena's lifeless body was found. Cause of death? Murder, another hate crime against a trans person.
They were the first non binary magistrate in Mexico and Latin America. They went to court rocking skirts and high heels, even when people laughed at them and sent death threats through social media. They were an activist, who always cared about their community and friends.
I am sharing this because I want more people to know about them. May they rest in power. No more trans murders!

disabled intersex trans lesbian needs help paying for bills while sick with gallstones
hello, i'm equinox. i'm a mixed disabled intersex trans lesbian. i am dealing with gallstones, one of which is lodged in the neck of my gallbladder and causing immense pain and digestive issues. i'm struggling to keep down food, some days i can't at all. i am also dealing with an injury in my right wrist that makes it very difficult to use, flare ups from hypermobile ehlers-danlos syndrome and psoriatic arthritis. i am struggling with my health and am in need of help as working has become very difficult and i'm being urged to rest while i await my gallbladder removal surgery
today i was told that the surgeon i was referred to can't work on patients above a certain weight and that i would need another referral to a surgeon who is used to working with fat bodies. i already waited a month to see this person, now i have to wait again. i have bills to pay, and i'm struggling to make ends meet right now due to my low energy from dealing with my health as is
i have been bed bound lately and my body has been so exhausted to the point of nearly passing out in public several times. i have been so tired i have been falling asleep against my will. i struggle to cook some days due to being so exhausted. i'm behind on housework, and i need certain cleaning items. i'm struggling to eat regularly, as sometimes i can get sick and throw up for no reason at all.
i had 4 GI procedures this month, all of which were helpful and informative, but it's wearing on me. my mental health is very fragile at the moment as my care is being prolonged for no reason. i am frequently in tears due to how tired this has been making me. i am frustrated beyond belief because i just want to be able to eat normal meals again. i can barely eat. i can barely stay awake
if you are interested in helping me, you can do so in the following ways:

The ability to evacuate is a privilege and I’m sick of people applying Florida logic to the Appalachians right now. Yes it is horrible for those who couldn’t in Florida but the people in the Appalachian’s had no warning. People still have “dial up” there, 55.9% of the population is under the poverty line. “I’ve been seeing warnings for a week” no you haven’t the warnings were for Florida and Georgia, even then it wasn’t supposed to hit the apps like this at most flooding but they would recover. When hurricane helene took that turn it was too late to even warn others before dams broke. The infrastructure is not meant to take this beating especially given the storm they had the week before causing all of the waterways to be full already. Towns are wiped out, towns that relied on tourism and coal mining to bring in revenue are gone. My great aunt and uncle lived in a trailer off a plot of land and were so happy they finally got a clean running water system hooked up two years ago. They have one tiny little old android that they have to travel about an hour in town to use so they can call us up. They lived off a fixed income because any sort of job was two hours away at least and they’re getting older they can’t just travel that much anymore. My great uncle can’t walk without his cane and my great aunt is getting there too. They always joked about taking me home with them and I would always say when I got older they would come live with me because I knew how rough it was for them but they couldn’t just leave. I haven’t been able to contact them in over 48 hours and the highways leading out after the one hour evacuation notice was given was shut down. Most places are air rescues only because there is no other way for them to be rescued. To add on as well that they deployed FEMA in many of the places affected but yet there is barely any coverage and radio silence from our government. No national guards are here to rescue them they are left to fend for themselves. People are drowning, being electrocuted, some didn’t even stand a chance. These are human beings who have been prayed on for generations the least you can do is show some fucking sympathy. I don’t care what you have to say family’s are being devastated. I wouldn’t wish anything like this to happen to anyone so if you find yourself in your bed at night I hope you know that out there, there are families who are grieving all they have lost and you are cozy at home with running water, electricity and a warm bed and you feel an ounce of guilt for even thinking that.
A link to ways that you can help. Keep Appalachia in your minds do not look away.

appalachia is devastated. towns i loved, towns i visited all the time, are gone. not damaged, GONE. they are leveled to the ground. there is nothing left but rubble and ruin. people are dead. appalachia is poor to begin with and relies on tourism for a lot of its income, and multiple of those tourist locations are just...gone.
my town is okay, but it's flooded and wrecked. trees are blocking all but one way out of our neighborhood. power lines are hanging limp in the roads. we've been without power for over 24 hours and will continue to be without power for likely another 24+. disabled people and poor people are GOING to die from this. gods save appalachia.

Y’all have no problem caring about Palestinians when they’re just names on a banner and faceless martyrs, and you have no issues with “mourning” the dead and not doing anything about those still living. They’re only valuable to you when they’re dead.
