hey. so bluesky's doin a stupid thing rn. sign this open letter and tell them to knock it off.

let's rewind. nearly a week ago, a self-proclaimed journalist by the name of Jesse Singal joined Bluesky. more notably than his "journalism", Singal is a notorious transphobe, pedophile and troll. he also has ties to notorious hate group "Kiwifarms". he was quickly banned from Bluesky... and then he got reinstated for unknown reasons. he got an intolerance label slapped on, only for it to be removed later. he got banned again but then got reinstated again.

what's super frustrating about all of this is that barely anything has been said from Bluesky about this; barely even a peep from Aaron Rodericks, head of Trust & Safety over there beyond acknowledging Bluesky user "aendra.com" stepping down from maintaining a screenshot labeler that had been made to hide screenshot dunking.

whether it be trans people, people of color, cis allies of trans people... so many people i've seen have become furious, feeling unsafe and unable to trust the Trust & Safety team due to their inability to do something about Singal.

which brings us to now: an open letter has been made, demanding that Bluesky enforce its terms of service and community guidelines equally. i did not write this, but i'm sharing it for those of y'all who use tumblr alongside bluesky. it has already grown to over 10,000 signatures over the course of the day, with even folks like Alex Winter and Lilly Wachowski sharing and signing this open letter.

it cannot be overstated how badly people on Bluesky want to avoid letting hate run amok on the site. i myself love using Bluesky! aside from this bullshit with Singal (and a few smaller things), things have been going great lately! there's already a great community of trans people and cis allies in here, and i've seen it grow bigger since the invite-only days last year. i don't want to see it crumble and burn while Nero plays his damn fiddle.

i do hope this reaches so many people, even on here. please sign it, and if you want, lend your voice in anyway you can. and pray that Bluesky finally does the right thing with Singal and stamps out his obsessive crusade against trans people.
