more bojack horseman posts woohoo
ok did anyone else ever realize that as Bojack goes through rehab and “heals” and writes his letters to Diane he stops ending them all with “This is Bojack. Horseman. obviously.” and just ends them with “Bojack” or “this is Bojack by the way”. As he progresses through rehab and his addiction he also becomes less arrogant and narcissistic (don’t get me wrong he was still not a good guy, but he progressed during his time in rehab) and instead of making sure he adds in one last little jab of pride in his letters, he just writes, like a normal person would write to a friend. He talks about his time there, what happens with the people around him, the other patients coming and going. He would never write about anything but himself before whenever he would write to (or call) Diane. As he changes he grows, and in growth little tweaks are made to every little part of him, whether it be how he presents as a man, or how he ends a letter.

as prior stated i’m rewatching bojack horseman. and in episode 2 when he takes the muffins from the navy seal who called dibs and everyone hates him because he was in the navy bojack makes an interesting point that for a change isn’t offensive or narcissistic or anything. when he says some troops are jerks and just because you give a jerk a gun and the right to kill someone doesn’t make them less of a jerk, it’s interesting because it true. in any profession there will be people who do that job that are jerks, even if it’s a doctor or police officer or anyone on the front lines who save lives, there will still be people who are shitty who do that job. just because you give a jerk a license or diploma or the ability to kill or save people doesn’t automatically mean that they aren’t still a shitty person. idk i just felt like thats one of the few moments where bojack does really say something profound and politically correct.

I think that when Achilles finally met Patroclus again he did actually think he was real. Until Patroclus grabbed his hand and placed it on the side of his own face so that Achilles could see that it really was him. Then he hugged him tightly, and Achilles realized that it was in fact him and broke down crying, which then made Patroclus start crying and they both collapsed in each others arms sobbing for a long time. I feel like I can imagine that very clearly. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk and I’m sorry if your now sad.

I have awoken and chose violence upon humanity so let me tell you how I think Rufus dies in They both Die at the End. Now I might be stupid and this is already thought of or know to like everyone but still. At the end of the book we know that Mateo dies in a fire, but it’s never been totally explained how Rufus dies. I believe that Rufus dies walking across the street, something that Mateo was always worried would happen. At the end of the book it says “ I cross the street without an arm to hold me back” in Rufus’ last pov, I think that he gets killed then, because as he said, Mateo isn’t there to stop him from crossing anymore.

I feel like this has been said so many times but I’d like to kinda put my own spin on it sorta.
Hear me out; in The Goldfinch, Theo and Boris (and really most of the people in the story) are bad people. And Donna Tartt wrote them to be that way, they’re flawed and imperfect purposely. But let’s specifically focus in on Theo and Boris themselves, in the beginning of the book Theo seems to already be pretty unhappy in his life, the only remaining factor that really makes him happy if his mother, when she dies he becomes entirely miserable (understandable as he just lost the only stable adult and person he cared about) but he becomes slightly better with Andy, and then he meets Hobie and Pippa and he’s slightly happier, still miserable but better than before. The Barbours and good hosts to him but all they really do to help him mentally is give him pills to help with nightmares (again nothing wrong with using pills to help you with mental or physical help) then his father comes to pick him up out of nowhere only because he knows that his mother had a small amount of money that she had left Theo. When he arrives in Vegas he meets Boris and is introduced into drugs and alcohol that help him with his emotions, and we’re meant to like Boris in the movie because he’s Theos only real friend in Vegas but he’s also a bad person, he has a bad life it understandable if he doesn’t act totally perfect all the time but when he meets Theo the first thing he does is offer him beer. They become close quickly because they rely on each other, Boris rely’s on theo because he’s the only person who doesn’t hate him and theo relys on Boris because he has drugs and beer that make him feel less miserable for a short period of time. Both of their lives are terrible and they’re just miserable people in general, and misery loves company doesn’t it? I’m mostly meaning the movie but the book is something totally different to unpack and I don’t want this to become a whole essay so I’ll wrap it up. PSA this isn’t me hating on either the book or movie, I like both quite a lot I just find their relationship and just them as people fascinating and also sort of genius characters ( genius because most main characters are supposed to be either perfect or flawed in a quirky way that makes them likeable, however Theos flaws make him more unlikeable) but thank you for reading this whole thing if you did and I’m sorry that it’s this long :)
