Dr.PGame Week 5

This is a post I read for fun. I love indoor plants, and this is an interesting find! I will have to try this with my own plants!

I have gathered similar data as well. If you include photos or screenshots of those posts and include your metrics, such as likes, comments, or shares, it may make more sense to the reader. It will explain the engagement you are talking about.

Original Content Peer Review
Up top is a section of my essay. I was looking for feedback in seeing the engagement pieces and if other people are finding the same things. I also want to make sure this is consistent with my other peers. Thanks!

You did a great job explaining the target audience. To make my explanations clearer, I tried to include something about the audience in each paragraph section. This may be helpful for you to include for your audience.
Original content peer review request 3
I discussed the audience in one of my paragraphs. I’m not sure if I have enough information or details about it in my essay. I did not reference the audience in all the parts of my essay only the one paragraph. I’m not sure if that is okay or if I should weave it into the other parts of the essay. I attached the paragraph about the audience, if anyone has any tips!

Your analysis makes very good points, and the explanation makes sense. Including the post with the least engagement may strengthen your point. Also, clarifying the lower interaction on the thesis posts may help to bring it all together. Overall, your wording looks good, and the flow is understandable.
Original Content Peer Review Request Week 5
Share a section of your Data Analysis Practice Project content. What is the work of this sample? How can we help you revise?
Here i have a chunk of my data analysis practice project:
The most engaging post was Dr. Sheaffer's tribute, with 26 likes, 9 comments, and 3 shares. Largely exceeding other posts as far as interaction. Students defending a thesis and announcements of graduation received the second most engagement, usually seeing 5-8 likes with little to no comments. This suggests a personal and emotional connection plays a major role in engagement. Dr. Sheaffer’s tribute took to the audience very well, likely for honoring a well-known individual in the academic community. The post having such a high number of comments further supports this idea that when content has a personal connection, the audience is most likely going to engage instead of just leaving a like.
I am analyzing what post types see more engagement in my Project. This portion of my data discusses why Dr. Sheaffer’s tribute saw the most engagement compared to thesis defenses and graduation posts. I argue that personal as well as emotional connections create more interaction, seeing more comments and likes.
Does this explanation make sense? Should I clarify why thesis defenses received likes but no comments? Would comparing the least engaged posts strengthen my point? What do you think!

My question for my peers is: How can I adjust the layout of my analysis so it flows better? I have it organized in paragraphs with screenshots added throughout.

I like that you got a screenshot of exactly what data you can track. It is easy to understand, and I think this may work better than a line graph unless you are trying to plot different posts and compare them. This will be very effective for the reader. It is simply laid out and easy to follow.
W5 Peer Review Request 1
My project is on the University Activities Board at Millersviller's Instagram, which I run. I am analysing posts that mention or allude to free things being given out vs. post's that don't, and using data to show that posts that do mention or allude to free things get noticably more engagement than ones that don't. In this portion of the project, I am analysing the data and content of successful posts. I wondering if the screenshot of the breakdown of post interaction's helps tell the story or if a line graph would be better. My thought process was that having the post interactions layed out like this was easier and quicker to understand than a line graph. In my opinion, its more effective, but im curious what you guys think.

My question to my peers would be: are there any additional data sources from Instagram that you think would be useful to include in the analysis? I analyzed the likes and comments.
The comments also give a glimpse of who is engaging with the posts. Most of the posts did not have a lot of engagement when it came to comments.
The comments in the 10 posts collected were three, followed by two, one, and no comments.
The post with three comments also had 57 likes. This indicates that the audience is engaged with the posts that offer congratulations on achievements. The post with two comments again had 23 likes and another complimentary post about a student’s achievements. This post also had three comments.

My question for my peers is whether there are areas where you believe the analysis could be improved or expanded. This is regarding the English and World Language Instagram page, which does not allow me to see shares.
The top-performing post, which received 57 likes, highlighted a student’s achievement. The next most-liked post came in with 44 likes. This is an image that congratulates some of the graduates of 2024. It uses congratulatory language and images that look scholarly. It also appreciates the achievements of current students. This also emphasized how the department values hard work and the importance of education. Following that, the post that caught the audience’s attention were the two with 23 likes, and again, this plays into the role of the value of creativity and accomplishments. The one post shows explicitly that gender plays a role in the audience as it focuses on women and sexuality. The colors included in both posts are also vibrant, pulling the audience in with visual elements. The target audience of this post, Reel Courage, could be any age but mostly geared towards women. This is an opportunity for the public to attend, so the audience covers a wide base.
Both have 23 likes

Share an example of a data piece you recorded that surprised you
The number of likes and comments on this post shocked me. The audience needed to know who Dr. Sheaffer was. However, I was surprised that no one commented and that it only received nine likes. This post aimed to remember and show support for someone who significantly contributed to the English and World Language department at Millersville.

Dr. P Check-in Week 5
My question for you, @npfannen, is how to ensure that the data and analysis flow properly. I started by examining the likes and comments and identifying the target audience. I then included photos of the post and, below them, provided the number of likes and comments. Do you have any advice on the specific order of my writing?

Great thought on the data used for parents of young children! Being a parent myself, I find it nice to have teachers who have solid data on the class progress compared to my child in particular. Data will likely be in your favor when you need to explain something of validity to your administrators!
Original Post #3 (Week 4)
Explain how data-driven writing will help you in your post-undergrad life
My major is elementary education, so data-driven writing will help me figure out students accommodations. With data, I can see if students need to be challenged more or if students need to be accommodated to fit their needs. Additionally, the data can be shown to administrators to receive resources and support. Lastly, data can be shown to parents for progress reports or and evidence-based updates. Overall, it will be important to have data-driven writing in my post-undergrad life!

Nice job, even if your hypothesis wasn't correct! I do like your use of color and the photo above. It makes it more engaging for me, as it caught my eye quickly!
Original Content (2)
"How does the data prove/disprove your hypothesis?"
The data that was shown in my Instagram post shows that my most recent post is the last ten, which spans the time all the way from the most recent post of January 7th, 2025, back to February 2nd, 2024. I collected one year; the first post to the second to last post (post 9) were the top engagements for my account with reach numbers over 500 to 1,000 viewers, while other posts made less than 300 to even 100 viewers to account engagements.
I asked the question if my account was considered a more popular engage social space than other accounts at a 500 to 600 follower range and I said yes to no due to the fact of inactivity and not keep up which would then lead to my hypothesis being disproven sadly. Hopefully for future data with more active realm of engagement in my own account will reach better viewership.

How does the data answer the research question?
My data for this project focused on likes and comments. Analyzing these provides information on engagement metrics and audience participation. This information helps web writers refine their strategies to optimize engagement, increase audience participation, and drive business results.

I totally agree with you, as the world is technology and data-driven now. By learning through this course, we will have an advantage over others who didn't take a course to help with this. It will definitely help the medicine go down a little better if we learn how to execute our data.
Week 4 Original Content 1/3
How will data-driven writing help me in my post-grad life?
I feel like there is not one aspect of our lives that is not data driven. Especially as a business major in a technology driven world. Wither you are analyzing the number of likes and shares or the selling patterns of products in your company, you are going to have to deal with data. As a professional you cannot just present a graph with the information, I mean you can if you want to put your audience to sleep. Well executed data-driven writing will help the medicine go down so to speak. Learning to master this skill will be a great tool under my belt in the future.

Share how you are adapting your writing process to successfully draft this assignment.
I have adapted my writing process in that I always sat down for hours at a time and tried to finish the entire project. Now, I will work on my writing in parts and focus on one part at a time. I also will work on writing drafts first and editing them over a few days to try to perfect what I am portraying.
