Like I said in the tags on my last post, I have never been comfortable with my portrayal of Raven. Much as I love him, there's almost always been someone else around who does a better job with him. Even after having this blog for over a year, and abandoning it once before due to such insecurities...

I try not to let it upset me. I like seeing other Ravens on my dash, watching them interact with other muses... But I can't. I look at my follower count—over 360 now—and I freeze up. I don't even like that attention, the idea of so many eyes on me and my writing. I left Rasun's blog for a while for a similar reason, and I'm only just getting back to him.

So I'm gonna leave this blog behind again. It'll mean fewer things for me to worry about, and it's not like I'm leaving altogether. Just going back to my minor characters (and Karol, who's terribly underrepresented) where I feel more comfortable. I'll still RP Raven on Skype for those that have it, but the closest to him I'll get on tumblr is my spirit!Raven blog. I feel safer working with Zephyr, with his subtle, justified differences from Raven and his miniscule follower count.

I don't want anyone feeling like they're at fault for this, okay? This is my own problem, nobody here caused it, and I'm dealing with it in my own way. I've had this blog for too long to delete it, so it'll stay up, even abandoned.

And maybe, like last time, if enough people keep insisting I'm a good Raven, and enough others unfollow me in my absence, I'll come back. But don't count on it happening any time soon.

Oh crap. He tossed the bow down on the ground beside him in an attempt to placate the dragon. "S-Sorry! Jus' n-not used ta lettin' Magpie do all the fightin'..." He held his hands up by his head, trying to look as harmless as possible. So much for hiding his fear. At least he still had his knife if Rory did attack.

"I'm from... really far away from here... Where Pokémon are so rare, humans do all the fightin' themselves... B-But I don't wanna fight, honest! Just a reflex, is all!"

"Hey...who're you?" //hello~ may I just come in and start talking?//

"The name’s Raven. An’ yerself?"

"Magpie!" Raven visibly panicked as his Murkrow was knocked out of the air by a blast of flame. Though he stood rooted to the same spot he'd been in the whole time, he reflexively drew his bow...

Magpie cawed from her place on the ground, letting her minion know not to panic. So, she'd underestimated her opponent. Or overestimated herself. Or both. 'You win this round, pal,' she muttered.

"Hey...who're you?" //hello~ may I just come in and start talking?//

"The name’s Raven. An’ yerself?"

Okay, so that didn't work, but wow, this guy was slow! She nimbly flew out of the way of the obviously telegraphed attack, and circled around behind him to hit him with a Pursuit.

Meanwhile, Raven was screaming internally, seeing Magpie was no match for Rory. He refused to call her back, though, figuring she wouldn't listen to him anyway until she saw how outclassed she was...

"Hey...who're you?" //hello~ may I just come in and start talking?//

It was easier to keep his fear in check when Rory was humanoid, but now he could feel his poker face slipping. A ‘dragon’ with a humanoid form, just like her…

Magpie had no such fears, and charged at the Charizard with a Peck attack. She didn’t know why her minion was so scared of a Pokémon that wasn’t any taller than him!

He smiled nervously, a hand going for the concealed bow at his side before he remembered the local customs. "Battle Magpie, eh? She's still kinda young, but if she wants ta, I can't stop her..."

Magpie fluttered off Raven's comfy head and cawed a battle cry towards her soon to be opponent. Finally, a chance to test her skill against something that made her minion twitchy!

"Hey...who're you?" //hello~ may I just come in and start talking?//

"Yeah, that's me. Memory must be gettin' bad in my old age..." He chuckled, his ears wiggling involuntarily. "Yeah, Magpie tends ta do what she wants, an' I have a hard time stoppin' her. Really, though, get off 'im, will ya?" He directed the last sentence at Magpie, who started at him indignantly before deciding to humour him... this time. She hopped off Rory's head and right back onto Raven's.

"Magpie kinda jus’ follows me around. Wouldn’t dare call her mine," Raven admitted as Magpie flew over to sit on the stranger’s head for a while. He winced internally, hoping the dragon guy wouldn’t get mad and burn her to a crisp or something…

"Come ta think of it, I don’t think I got yer name. Mind sharin’?"

Raven's eyes widened in what he hopes the other would take as surprise. Fire breath. Great. Just like Ba'ul, only without Judy as a good reason not to hurt him. "Yeah, that's pretty impressive, alright."

Just then, his Murkrow swooped down and landed comfortably (for her) in his hair. "Magpie, I keep tellin' ya my head's not yer nest..." Even with the complaint, Raven made no move to dislodge her. He'd been through this before, and didn't need her pecking his head indignantly.

"Fire lizard...?" He took a not-so-subtle step back. If the wings hadn't put him on edge before... 'Big winged fire lizard' usually equated to 'dragon', which in his world meant 'Entelexeia', which to him in particular meant 'could kill me with a thought'. And here he was without any backup save a fickle little bird, which he called down to him with a wave of his arm.

"Are humanoid lizards a common thing 'round these parts, or is it jus' you?" he asked nonchalantly. At least he had practice with keeping his casual attitude, so long as this guy couldn't smell fear.

That... didn't sound right. Raven was expecting something more like a bunch of weird formulas he's have to repeat to Rita later to make sense of.... Okay, maybe this guy really wasn't a scientist after all. Then what was he? Test subject, maybe?

"Huh. Nothin' like what we've got at home, that's fer sure."

"Team, huh?" The guy certainly didn't look like a scientist, much less act like one, but he couldn't be too quick to judge. After all, the same could be said of a few blastia specialists he knew...

"So... Jus' how do these power plants work? I've got some friends back home that'd just love ta get their hands on tech like this."

"Pretty far. I'm not a Unovan, that's fer sure." He glanced up momentarily to check on his 'friend' in the skies. Magpie was still quietly circling overhead, with nothing to report.

"So, yer from... Lumiose, was it? Jus' came from that way myself. Not a lot o' people seem ta like my coat. Said I'm not stylish enough ta get inta places, or somethin' like that. Least I'm comfy in this thing."
