END GAME: “A Civil Engineering Student’s Eye View”

The half year of the elite 4 was a roller coaster ride. There were high points and lowest of the low but everything fell into place for the four. It was a perfect mix of courage, persistence, and determination which led them to accomplish their goal but in every success story there will always be an end. This is the END GAME.

Today is the day that the elite 4 will wrap up everything for their demo day - “the final pitching.” They have undergone testing and continued interviewing about their product. They have already gathered every data they needed to persuade the panelists that the product they created is something more than just a product. In fact, the products that every group has prepared are no less than the others. The products are new and innovative and I think this is what really matters. It is not about what other would say about our idea; it is about the intention of creating that product and the purpose of it in the society. We are all inventors and what we create is a masterpiece and no one has the right to tell us that our ideas are useless and has no purpose in life. We are here not to be a businessman; we don’t want to be someone we are not. We just want to share what we have in our mind when it comes to innovation and technology. This whole process opened my eyes to the real scenario of life, that everyone will always have something to say about what we think and do. We just need to take it in and move on. Always remember that the simplest thing we do to help the society is really a great contribution, there is no less idea or action. Everything we do is greater than the great.

This is why at the end of this process we are contented at what we have created, at the performance we have shown. They may think it is a mediocre type of product but for us it is more than that. We have started this with nothing and we have ended it with something. This is the END GAME.

X MARKS THE SPOT

At last, the hunt is over and the Elite 4 arrived at the exact spot where the hidden treasure is located. The journey was not easy and will never be easy but it was indeed satisfying for the four when they have reached the finish line successfully. They did it and x marks the spot.

With the collaboration between the Elite 4 and CLENRO, the site visit was held. They went to the dump site to see if the availability of grinding machine is true and it was but the machine present on that site was not the machine that was expected by the four. It turned out to be a grinder for biodegradable materials and laminated plastics only. During the visit, group of people were busy creating concrete hollow blocks with a mixture of laminated plastics. The curiosity of the four about the product gave them the courage to ask the purpose of plastics as admixture for CHB. The head of the project explained that the CHB that was created by the team is more compact and less hollow compared to the ordinary CHB plus the laminated plastics gave the block insulating property that can help alter the room temperature with the outside temperature. Being said, the elite 4 decided to use that idea and combine it with theirs. Instead of replacing sand, they use PET as an admixture for concrete. This will then act as an insulator for concrete. Though the four was not able to be successful with their goal they still have made a progress and a new idea for their product. Later that week, they started creating their prototype to be presented in their mock pitching.

The Elite 4 did it. They found what they need and are now ready to take the bigger conquest in their lives and that is to change the world of technology and entrepreneurship. Join them in their journey until they will say “x marks the spot.”

THE HUNT CONTINUES…

The Elite 4 is now on the journey of finding the lost treasure. They searched and scouted for days and weeks. Following the map, they have been through a lot of traps and obstacles. They are almost to the X mark but they knew this journey won’t be easy but still no one could stop them. Their hunt continues…

The Elite 4 had a progressive week with stronger plans. Now, they knew what to do to accomplish their goal and that is to leave an impact in the world of entrepreneurship and technology. They scheduled a site visit in the dump site of CDO in order to learn more about the disposal of waste materials, including plastics, and to visit the grinding station of the city. They have also interviewed 2 more engineers for affirmation about their product. Both gave different answers which adds even more facts for their product and is now stronger than ever. They are now getting ready for chitchat and they are targeting suppliers for the next interview. The site visit will be conducted next week and the prototype of their product will soon be available.

This hunt won’t be easy for the four. They are finding something that doesn’t want to be found which makes them eager to accomplish this mission. Don’t stop, because THE HUNT still CONTINUES…

TREASURE HUNT

The Elite 4 is now stranded on a deserted island searching for the lost treasure. A lost treasure that was kept hidden and can only be found by those who seek for the truth and who possesses the desire to change the world of technology and entrepreneurship. Help the four on their conquest and be part of a treasure hunt.

It is now time for the Elite 4 to validate data from offices with credible facts about their product. They went to a government office, CLENRO, to gather data regarding the percentage of plastics being disposed in the city of Cagayan de Oro. They also interviewed the officer-in-charge about how they usually dispose this kind of waste and if there are alternatives in disposing it. The OIC was generous enough to give answers that are helpful to their study. They went on to search for plastic grinders, equipment used to pulverized plastic, in order to start their production. Along the way they had also interviewed hardware stores who orders sand fine aggregates that are being sold in public markets. They asked about the idea of selling pulverized plastic as fine aggregates for concrete. Their responses are a bit unsure of selling it because the demand of it is uncertain and they are not aware of this kind of study. With these responses, they did not disregard the doubts of the consumers and took this as a motivation to push through their product for people to be aware and be an eco-friendly user.

The Elite 4 is still on the search. They have crossed many obstacles but nothing can stop them to find this lost treasure. They have their map and tools and they are waiting for you to be on this treasure hunt.

SAVE THE DATES

Valentines is fast approaching. Everyone is so busy preparing everything for that day. Men are in the salon for a perfect do with their hair and the ladies are in every store to find that perfect dress. Restaurants are now fully booked and flower shops and chocolate factories are now in overtime to produce the endless orders of their customers. The ladies and men of the elite 4 are also following the trend. Preparing for a date of a lifetime but instead of a day, they will be having it for the whole February. Be part of that date and save the dates.

The operation for validation is on the go. The Elite 4 are now scheduling the interviews that they will be conducting. These interviews are for data gathering in order to establish a stronger concept for their product. This was suggested by the so called “investors” on their pitching day. They have listed their interviewees and have given them the date and time in order to have a continuous process and be on track with their schedule. Preplanning is also part of their discussion and to when it will be conducted. It is a good thing to put things in place and be on track as it was planned to avoid conflict with their time and schedule. The Elite 4 ended the day with confidence that they will be successful in their operation.

PITCH A SHUTOUT

Strike 1 is a warning sign; Strike 2 is the critical point; and strike 3 you are out. In the world of business, reaching the third strike means you are out of the league. You are casted out permanently and there is no chance of coming back. Pitch a shutout and you will survive.

In the game of baseball, shutout refers to the act of preventing other teams to score. The Elite 4 did what they needed to do in order get the attention of the investors and that is to not let the competitors score in the game. The game of business is not easy. You need to know who you are competing with and who you are collaborating with. During the day of pitching, the Elite 4 presented their product to the investors. They first introduce facts, the problem, solution, product, target market and of course, their competitors. The investors throws questions at them and as the batters of the game, they swung, hit the ball, and had home run. They answered every question with credible answers and legit facts and that is the reason why the Elite 4 has minimal revisions and validations to do. The presentation ended well and somehow satisfying.

The Elite 4 did not end with a third strike. They are still in the game and are ready to hit a home run. Beware of the Elite 4 because they are planning to PITCH A SHUTOUT.

PITCH DECK ON BOARD

The Elite 4 is on board sailing across the deep blue sea, exploring and wandering. They are looking for ideas on how to engage people with the innovation that they possess. They are preparing to introduce their product for the world to see. Ride with them and be on board.

Phase 1 and phase 2 was a success and it is time for Phase 3 to begin. The Elite 4 headed by the persuader prepared their selves to face the investors on their pitching day. They brainstormed ideas on how they will present their product with conviction and with a touch of sensitivity to give story that could capture the heart of the investors. It was briefly discussed amongst them on how they will throw the lines and the right gestures in order to give flavor to their presentation. Everyone was on the process of exchanging ideas and the persuader weighs on every idea they put on the table. They ended the day with a progress. The presentation was done and the Elite 4 were satisfied with their preparation.

WE ARE ENGAGE!

Getting to know each other stage is over. Tons of information has been gathered and it is time for the Elite 4 to ask you. Is it a yes? Will you accept them as your lawfully wedded inventors? If yes, then you are engage. Engage with their idea, engage with their product.

The Elite 4 is now on the process of introducing to the panel their concept, the story behind their product. They have presented the facts, the problem, the solution and their target market. The panelists ask them questions in order to discuss further the ideas that were established before the product was created. With no doubts, they have delivered their answers confidently since they have thoroughly studied their product well and deeply searched for information that could strengthen their idea. At the end, it was a success. The panel approved their product and is now ready to be presented to the investors.

It was a tough call. Never did the Elite 4 imagine that they could reach this certain stage of their relationship; that they can ask the hands of the people and to say yes to their product. Now they can say that they are engage with the world of entrepreneurship and technology.

“YOU STILL HAVE TWO WISHES LEFT”

The man with the purest heart returned and asked for one of his two wishes. “My wish was not enough to make the villagers of the enchanted forest happy,” he said. The 4 genies heard the man’s whine and rose from the lamp. They ask the man what the villagers want. He approached one of the genies and whispered it to him. “It is settled. The man with the purest heart has spoken, now your wish is our command.”

The Elite 4 was not contented of 2 interviewees. They approached two more that are still part of the target market and ask whether or not their idea is feasible and attainable. The feedback were somehow different from the previous two but still it added more facts in order to support the information that they had before. From a weak concept, they have transformed it to a rigid one. It is compact and fixed. Now they are certain than ever that their concept will surely leave an impact in the world of technology and entrepreneurship.

The 4 genies were so happy that they have met a man who is not just thinking of his own happiness but the happiness of all. The man with the purest heart will surely be remembered by all. From two, now it becomes one.

YOUR WISH IS OUR COMMAND

Once upon a time, a man with the purest heart found a lamp in the enchanted forest as he was headed home from his hunt. He was so happy to bring the lamp as a gift for her wife. He took the lamp and rubbed it not knowing that this lamp is no ordinary lamp. The man was thrilled as 4 genies rose from the lamp and knelt in front of him like he was royalty. The genies thanked the man and granted him 4 wishes but the man decided to take only one wish and whispered it to them.

A man with the purest heart started it all…

The Elite 4 interviewed 2 people that are part of their target consumers and asked problems that they are facing in their field, civil engineering. They combined all problems that they heard along the interview and deducted it to one common problem. The process was not easy and there were disagreement between the 4 but they have met to one common problem. The man has given his wish and with his pure heart the genies will serve him well.

The Elite 4 is now searching for answers and solution for the problem. They have found so many ideas that were new and crazy but feasible crazy. It was hard to decide which solution will work for that problem but at the end they need to choose and they did.

One of the genies slowly placed her hands on the man’s chest and feel if his heart is pure as white and it was. The four was so happy that the wish of the man was not just for himself but for all those who lived in that enchanted forest. The genies stood and lifted their arms and say, “You with the purest heart will be served well by the four of us. You have spoken and YOUR WISH IS OUR COMMAND.”

The JUNCTION

              They were all found in different places, different time and different generation but they have come together for one goal, to make a mark in the world of technology and entrepreneurship. This is the JUNCTION.

               Phase 1 has already begun. The Elite 4, headed by the Thinker, started identifying the target consumers for their product. From a huge population, they have segregated it to a more specific target. It was not easy for the group to identify their prime consumer but quitting was never an option. After selecting the target group, they directly proceed to the actual product. Too many questions were thrown on the table but only one stand out. The question, “what is the problem”, was the perfect question to select a perfect product. It was then their main goal on that day. They went out to search for deeper answers which led them to different points.

               It was a tough and serious discussion but still ended up real good. Yes, they ended up from different points but they will be directed again to a common point. Meet them on that point and you will see the JUNCTION.

The ELITE 4

          It’s not easy to find a dish with class, sophistication, and with essence. And if ever there are those qualified for these criteria, it’s hard to mix it together to make a perfect dish. A dish with different ingredients, individual tastes, sizes and colors but with the right amount of salt, pepper and other spices, it will taste divine.

          The Elite 4 is the right example for this perfect dish. These four have their own expertise, personalities and ideas but they have collaborated to make a team that could change the face of technology and entrepreneurship. This team is composed of the THINKER, the DESIGNER, the TECHNO and the PERSUADER. The Thinker is the brain of the project. She is the phase 1 of the entire operation. She will give us the idea of what the project is all about including, the purpose, the scope, the process and the like. The Designer will then be the phase 2 of the operation. She will extract the idea and will give us images of how the project will appear to the buyers. She will then pass these designs to the Techno which is the phase 3 of this operation. He is responsible for the tangible product of the project. He will make the product work as it is supposed to be. Lastly, the Persuader will now operate phase 4. He will be looking for potential buyers and whether or not people will buy the said product. He will be persuading clients to buy the product that was created by the team. These are the people behind the Elite 4 and the operations of each individual. Soon they will be creating a product that could help solve some problems that we are experiencing in our daily life.

          A team will never be a perfect team without the diversity of each member. This is why the Elite 4 will surely be a perfect team to this industry and will surely leave an impact to the world of technology and entrepreneurship.
