fxciem:
she quickly recognized the people he was running away from as pirates — easy to recognize with their growling and strange clothing, compared to the peaceful atmosphere they had interrupted. she’d been on break this month, but… well.
she had neglected to close her eyes, thanks to her thoughts, and she quickly rubbed at her eyes, feeling the sting that the dirt caused. luckily she had her haki. she blinked several times before leaving her eyes shut. was he a bounty hunter like her? in which case maybe they could share the bounty. but then why was he running away from them? to get to a less damaging area? it was true this area was much larger.
she recognized the sound of something being slammed into the dirt, and her haki recognized it for what it was. well, he wasn’t messing around. pulling out a throwing knife, she stayed still as possible, hoping the pirates wouldn’t pay extra attention to her. still, she waited to see what the other’s actions would be, muscles tense.
☁️ ┊ ❝ See, maybe you guys should have just let me go. ❞ Adonis tilted his head, a cocky grin on his lips. ❝ I didn’t want to make you look bad in front of people. And I certainly don’t think you wanted to make scene when passing through this island. There’s a marine base on here, isn’t there? ❞ The pirates began looking at each other nervously, remembering that they were supposed to be hiding. They didn’t look like they wanted to make peace, however, and were rather intent on making him pay for the damage on their ship he caused while escaping from their kitchen when they caught him stealing. ❝ Sucks...I tried. ❞ He muttered with a shrug.
☁️ ┊ The first three pirates ran forward, swords in hand. Adonis took no time in lifting the axe, spinning it before gripping it tight in position. When they were close enough he swung the axe towards the one to the far right, dealing a blow that made him crash into the other two and knock them out. Adonis was always meticulous enough to not kill anybody. A shot sounded and Adonis was quick to jump back as the dust before his feet lifted, barely missing his skin.
The Skypiean looked up, eyes focused as the pirate had a gun in hand and began rapid firing. Adonis spun his axe in front of him, deflecting all of the bullets that came his way. Soon enough the bullets ran out, and the pirate’s eyes widened in fear. Shifting his feet, the Skypiean leaped forward and above the pirate, kicking his face and knocking him into the ground.
Wasn’t there one more...?
Adonis threw his axe upwards into the air and elbowed the area behind him, knocking into the pirate’s stomach. He then turned fully and punched their face before landing a powerful kick and sending him flying a few feet away. Hand raised, the axe fell and landed right in the Skypiean’s palm, a tight grip keeping it from sliding off. He put the axe back into the holder on his back, and looked up to find the woman still standing there.
☁️ ┊ ❝ Ha.. Sorry about that, are your eyes okay? ❞

He had no idea how to comfort her? Well, she had no idea how to be comforted. She never really showed emotion that was neither full out anger or some form of happiness. Either one or the other or nothing at all. No, vulnerability much like this was one she would hide, one she felt no one needed to see. Simply because she didn’t know how to deal with it.
At the sound of his movements, Vani did not flinch. As far as she could tell, given she could now see very little, the male was leaving. After all, hadn’t he just admitted he wasn’t good at helping people in her current situation? Surely then it would be the most logical course of action for him to leave? But when he didn’t. When instead he wrapped his arms around her in an awkward hug. Well, it was then that she did flinch. Instinctively, her hands moved to push at the much larger male.
“Please…” She whispered, willing her voice not to break. Her feeble attempts at having him leave her likely coming to nowt. “I don’t…” Her words failing her as her own feelings did. Leaving her feeling an unfamiliar wetness upon her cheeks.
☁️ ┊ He didn’t speak another word, just letting her go through her own head and just making himself a radiation of comfort. Even if they weren’t people that knew each other for long, he wasn’t going to leave her there to wallow by herself. It’d be some form of betrayal, right? If he was going to even call himself one of her friends, he had to be there for her when she needed it most.
Maybe she didn’t think she wanted it, as implied by the small hands pushing weakly at his chest in vain, however he understood what it felt like to be alone in a seemingly hopeless situation. Outwardly he didn’t want anyone to see him, but inwardly he hoped a hand of helping would reach in and pull him out of the darkness. That hand never came for him. He would be that hand for others.
☁️ ┊ When the waterworks were finally underway, he took to patting her hair, thinking of how people are usually supposed to hold crying people.

He wasn’t feeling well. She knew that much was certain. If he was going to scold her about her worries, then she gets to do the same. Even though words could not reach him very well, she would at least try to encourage him. She hated seeing someone sad, someone frustrated.
Without another sound, she had grabbed his hand and attempted to pull it up in high stretch motion. Exercise! Lots of stretches and movement!
☁️ ┊ Adonis didn’t want her comfort. He didn’t want anyone’s comfort. He just needed to find that doctor and get those dark thoughts out of his mind. Even if he felt like crying and beating up the world for its cruelty, he knew he had a time limit and he needed to hurry. He paused on his way to the door when Althea moved in his way, looking silly as she pulled his hand up in a stretch.
☁️ ┊ He let out a breath and smiled, pulling his hand away from her before patting her on the head and ruffling her hair. ❝ Seriously, Thea, ❞ he used the same nickname he used for her when they were children, even if he didn’t remember her, ❝ stop worrying. ❞

A smirk played about the halfling’s lips when the male stumbled. It was enough for her to stifle a laugh as he stopped himself from falling completely. Yet, she couldn’t help but roll her eyes at his next words. She? Fall? As if. And even if she did, she had a few tricks up her sleeve to stop her from hurting or killing herself anyway. Still, that wouldn’t stop her from wandering to the edge of the roof, and just sitting, her legs dangling over the edge. “I’ll be fine, not the first time I’ve taken to scaling rooftops, after all,” She stated simply, throwing a grin his way.
Now, this was a woman who did as she pleased, whenever she pleased. If she wanted to climb something, she did. If she wanted a particular item, she took it regardless of the consequences. She laughed when she wanted, shouted when she felt she needed, and seldom followed the rules. So when it was that he suggested she come down, she simply shook her head. She wasn’t ready to come down yet. “I like it up here, much better for looking at things. Maybe you should stop being such a pansy and join me~”
☁️ ┊ Adonis groaned at her invitation, not interested in going on top of the building. Sure he could get there easily, the wings weren’t just decoration (like the skypieans from two floating islands over) after all, and he wasn’t afraid of heights either. The problem, however, was the fact that he just didn’t feel like it. But the other person’s company was quite enjoyable already, and he didn’t have anything better to do either. Lastly...
❝ Who you calling a pansy? ❞
He grinned as the words left his lips with a challenging tone.
☁️ ┊ His wings stretched out and he flew to the top of the building with grace and ease. As his feet landed on the ledge the wings stretched one last time before folding in. He walked over next to the halfling and sat down. ❝ Sitting down and I’m still not as short as you. ❞ Adonis...please.

post-mortem-lullaby:
Nibbling at her cookie, Emil walked up the main road, pondering what to do for the dinner when she noticed the road in front of her cleared up. That was unusual. Sure, she was a wanted pirate, but people getting off her way weren’t an everyday thing.
Then she took notice of a man swaying weakly in her direction and everything got clear. It was because of him that the crowd thinned.
Emil stood in place, following the man with her haki and blind gaze. Pulling out a string bag another cookie, Emil wondered if he had even noticed her.
Probably not.
He was passing her when he passed out. Without thinking much, Emil caught him by the collar of his shirt, stopping his face from falling into the pavement’s loving embrace. “Hey. You alive?” Emil lifted him to the level of her face - being a fishwoman sure had its perks, she was stronger than she looked for an example.
Gaining no response, Emil started dragging the unconscious man toward the nearest bench. “You know, it’s not nice to litter the road. People don’t want to step on any sort of odd things.” Emil had no idea if he could hear her, nor did she care.
Humming as if this was a completely normal activity, Emil threw the man on the bench, hid the string bag inside the backpack and pulled ou a bottle of water instead. Only a few seconds later, she was spilling its content onto the man’s face. “Wakey wakey~”
☁️ ┊ After a few minutes and a splash of cold water to his face, Adonis awoke spluttering and coughing. His hand reached up to feel the content on his skin, and even in his half-awaken state he identified it as water. He sat up quickly, stretching his shirt out before him as he groaned when he realized there was a large water stain on it.
❝ Oh great, ❞ he muttered, finally turning to acknowledge the woman who had awoken him in the first place.
A few blinks and a silent air later, he decided he should speak before the staring got awkward and creepy. ❝ Who are you? And... ❞ Finally his panic mode settled in and he stood up from the bench quickly. Senses were sharpened, and his eyes were narrowed. ❝ Where’s my axe?! Did I leave it by accident...? ❞ He turned to the other.
☁️ ┊ ❝ Sorry miss, but did you see an axe with me when I was walking? It’s eight feet tall and weighs over one hundred pounds. It’s also double edged. ❞

She inspected his wounds, looking back over and over. She had just checked his health today and he was fine. Yet here he was now with a large gash on his body. It wasn’t fine at all. It wasn’t alright, not for her. She knew better than to let her guard down. If only she paid better attention to her surroundings, if only she looked before she went.
“B - but … I ….”
☁️ ┊ Adonis closed his eyes and sighed before looking at her again. ❝ Listen to me. ❞
☁️ ┊ He reached out and grabbed one of her hands in his. ❝ I wanted to protect you. It’s not your fault. I’ve been in more dangerous situations and have suffered worse injuries. If you really want a way to return the favor, then smile. “Well, I really know is that his name is Booker and a picture. No idea where he is.” He said showing a picture of a man. “I think I’ve seen your bounty around a few time and how bout I make you a deal? You help me track down this guy and we split the bounty 50/50?” Hey, the extra manpower would make this job a breeze if it was just the one guy.
“Nice to meet you, Adonis.” He held out his hand to shake the male hand, but then he heard him say he was from the sky. “Wait, you came from the sky? Are you one those Skypians I’ve read about in those old stories?”
☁️ ┊ ❝ Isn’t that a pirate that stays around this island? I’ve had a few run ins with his guys. ❞ Adonis taps his chin in thought. ❝ And I need the extra money. I’m down. ❞ If this guy tried anything funny to betray their temporary partnership, Adonis would just make quick work.
☁️ ┊ Adonis looked at the other’s hand and looked back up to their face. They expected a handshake? Well they weren’t going to get one. She supposed that it made more sense for her to go up to the man and ask that he remain still, but it was much easier cracking open her journal, turning to a fresh page and sketching him from a distance. Her sketches were always crude thanks to her lack of artistic skills, but she found that doodling someone unawares gave her entries a more genuine feel that someone that knew they were being watched.
She was, of course, disappointed when he began to shift. Grunting and shuffling over, she drew so close that it made hiding what she was doing impossible. “Stop moving so much…”
☁️ ┊ When he saw the woman grunting and sketching and glancing up at him occasionally, a frustrated visage taking over her features, he rose a brow. ❝ Are you...what are you doing? ❞ He called to her attention, questioning her actions. Aiko had for once decided to relax at at local tavern to get some peace from her busy life on the Moby Dick, not that she disliked her life with her brethren, sisters and Pops, but sometimes a breather was much needed, especially because it could become rowdy and loud fast with so many on the huge ship.
Suddenly her eyes caught something interesting, making the nurse blink repeatedly in wonder as she slowly went closer. Now this was something you didn’t see everyday; a person with wings. Were those real? Wait, weren’t there histories about about that– oh by the great sea goddess, was this guy an…
“Are you an angel?” The question left the plump lips before Aiko could stop herself, resulting a blush to immediately spread over her pale cheeks as she lowered her big cherry hues in embarrassment at being so forward.
☁️ ┊ He awaited her excuses, for something rude to come out of her mouth, but instead she asked a question that he normally only received from children. And as he looked at her, a childlike innocence seemed to encompass her at the moment. The way she asked the question sincerely, all curiosity painted in her eyes, he couldn’t help but feel as if he was in the presence of someone to protect.
A light smile stretched his lips. He sat up straight and turned in his seat to face her. ❝ Only if that’s what you want me to be. ❞ He laughed, entertaining the thought a bit more. Sure he was a kind person in overall, but under that facade sometimes he could act like a demon.
☁️ ┊ ❝ But some people like to use the term Skypiean. ❞ As he spoke he glance towards his axe, which was propped up against the table, and made sure it wasn’t being stolen. Not that someone could really steal something that tall and heavy without being noticed.

Well … at the very least, Willow wasn’t in any real danger, since she was staying in her room for the night. Besides, the area was starting to get a bit too crowded for her, so the extra assurance was helpful. Still, she hoped no one seemed too forward to her to make him agitated again.
☁️ ┊ As the crowd started to grow, so did his worry. He was quite tall compared to her, so losing sight of the female was easy to do. In order to avoid that, he reached over and grabbed her hand. In a moment of panic, he moved his hand up to her wrist.
☁️ ┊ ❝ Just don’t move too fast, ❞ he averted his gaze, ❝ I don’t want to lose you. ❞ Why did he say it like she was going to die? The warmth creeping up to his cheeks became his focal point and he quickly let go of her, covering his mouth and looking away.

She may have overstepped her boundaries. Althea took one step back to allow the stranger some space and awaited for his reply. It was not unnatural for her not to realize how close or far away she should be. The girl was generally mute, after all, and without a sketchbook to ‘speak’ with, she often relied on other things, no matter how different or ridiculous it seemed.
His answer given, she shook her head. She had no idea where that plant was, only told to retrieve it for the medicine she needed to make.

Even with the approaching footfalls, the shouts of alarm that rang out in the streets, it was a struggle not to snap at the stranger besides him, the insinuation that this was HIS fault utterly ridiculous and aggravating. Because sure, blame the pirate. Why not? Not like Ace hadn’t been trying to stay unnoticed and out of the spotlight – something that should have been obvious by the HOOD low over his face. He ground his teeth together when the marines passed by, frustration swimming under his skin when he shot a small glare towards the other, an angry huff on his lips but his voice still ( wisely ) low.
❝Not my fault; you dragged me into this. Wasn’t about to let some asshole punch me just because you apparently didn’t want any blood on you. But seriously, you just had to pick ME, didn’t you?❞ He hissed out. ❝You owe me at least a drink. Maybe a meal too after all of that.❞
☁️ ┊ ❝ I couldn’t give less of a damn if it was your fault or not, the marines won’t give you a get out of jail free card for it! ❞ When the other demanded repayment as a form of apology, Adonis couldn’t help but raise a brow and look at the other as if they had sprouted multiple heads.
☁️ ┊ ❝ I can barely afford my own meals, ❞ the Skypiean scoffed, ❝ What do you take me for? A charity service? ❞ As the words escaped his lips a shot sounded as a bullet flew right past them. He straightened himself and turned to face the marines who had found them, and were getting ready to shoot again. ❝ Totally blaming you. ❞

“I’m a bounty hunter,” he admitted, a bit offset with the complete dodge of his question with another question. His clothing gave away his occupation a little, the sword on his back was one of them. “and the name is Rhys.”

“Oh, sorry I was just headed in the same way you are,” Rhys replied to the tall male, his eyes wandered to the axe on his back and the hand that grabbed it. “no need to pull out that axe, I have no quarrels with you buddy. Also, what’s with the wings?”
