idk what traumatized or mentally ill person needs to hear this but dreams (especially the really disturbing ones you dont want to talk about to anybody) arent some deep peek into your psyche or a sign of your True Desires or whatever theyre quite literally your brain making fruit salad with whatever it can find on the shelf. just putting all that shit in a blender and hitting obliterate. its fine, youre fine, youre not a weirdo for it

The first three pages (from right to left) of Neon Genesis Evangelion as scripted before & after storyboarding.
Above - Evangelion Original I, Episode 1, pages 3-5 (pages 1&2 are the title, byline, and foreword). This version is the writer's - in this case Anno's - final draft prior to the storyboarding of the episode. These are largely written in prose (with the occasional abbreviations and film/anime jargon), without delineations between cuts, and with location headers marking each scene. This version of the script contains some scenes, lines, and images that did not make it to the final version of the episode.
Below - Renewal of Evangelion, afureko scripts, Episode 1, pages 1-3. This version represents the "shooting script" - or the closest published thing to it - including both the dialogue to be recorded and brief "stage directions" accompanying each cut of e-konte, condensed from the screenplay. With the exception of cuts that were storyboarded but not filmed, marked as 「欠番」 and lines that would be ad-libbed during recording, marked 「アドリヴ」 it matches the episode as-aired virtually beat-for-beat.

"This is the bittersweetness of adolescence." (From EVA tomo no kai. If you ask me, this phrase comes pretty close to summarising 'Evangelion in a word'. Or at least, one of its major themes.)
