Aight so I just figured smth out about the upcoming game ‘Mermaids Tounge’, being the 4th installment in the detective grimoire games series.

(SPOILERS AHEAD!!!)

So we can ignore the first game here - mostly because I don’t even know if it’s playable anymore.

The second game - Detective Grimoire, secrets of the swamp - has a focus on one of the three Remington siblings, Richard Remington aka the victim.

In the second - Tangle Tower, there’s also a distinct focus on one of the siblings, Flora Fellow (Nee. Remington).

All of this to say, in the upcoming 4th installment it’s very likely we’ll see a focus on the last of the siblings, Primrose Remington, aka Poppy’s mom and Professor Pointer ex (?) wife. Pointer says in the first game simply “she went away”, likely shortly after Poppy was born, and it’s confirmed later she seemed to be part of the mystid hunting group and has been already killed by Penny by the time the game starts, but likely she’ll have some kind of connection in the 4th game - since it’s already established ghosts exist in this universe maybe she’ll show up that way?

Mermaid Mask Theories

Been wanting to get my theories out there for a while now so- here :) A v e r y b i g block of text of me theorising- I should also mention that this is all just speculation and I don't know anything of the game beyond what's been shown on Steam or in the demo. But in any case /!\ spoilers warning /!\ for the demo, as well as Tangle Tower

1st Theory : The Mortuga Submarine was once both the Dearest Selena and the Seafoam Submarine.

The evidence for this is that it seems to have both boat and submarine parts. Plus, it has this statue tied up in the back which looks very similar to the figurehead of the Dearest Selena shown on the sign at the Stonetop Inn. So it once was a boat, the Dearest Selena, and a submarine, the Seafoam Submarine, as evident by 'Seafoam' being written on the deck, and they merged to make the Mortuga Submarine. This means that before the ship belonged to Mortuga, it belonged to Sylvia Seafoam.

Which leads me to my 2nd Theory : Captain Seafoam is barely adult.

Because why would Captain Seafoam give the ship to Mortuga and stay as part of the crew ? Because it's not the same Seafoam. I believe that the Captain Seafoam we'll meet will be the child of Sylvia Seafoam, prior owner of the submarine. Which means, that Captain Seafoam must be barely adult, because if they had been adult by the time Sylvia Seafoam left ( presumably died ), they would have inherited the submarine. But if they were still a kid, maybe the ship was passed onto Mortuga until Captain Seafoam could take over once adult ( which happened once Mortuga died ). Plus, from a story writing perspective, it makes even more sense because why would Captain Seafoam themselves if not because they aren't what we imagine them to be and they think they have to keep up that image. And from the sillhouettes in the trailer, I think we can determine who Captain Seafoam is, because one of the sillhouettes is wearing clothes similar to Mortuga's with the epaulettes, a symbol usually worn by leaders. This then supports the theory even more as the character seems to be of small stature, kind of similar to the young adults in Tangle Tower ( Fifi specifically, who has a similar story of inheritance ).

3rd Theory : we'll get to know more about Hawkshaw.

And by that, I don't mean the Hawkshaw we met in Tangle Tower, but the one Freya saw in her nightmares. There isn't much evidence for this and it's bit ( a lot ) of a stretch but- at the very least I think maybe we'll know more about why Freya had these nightmares. What makes me say that is, first, that Freya's mother, Felicia Stonetop, is mentionned in Mermaid Mask as the owner of the Dearest Selena ( presumably named after Freya's grandmother ). So she has a link to the Mortuga Submarine. Now how does that relate to her nightmares ? As part of the promotion for Mermaid Mask, preview screenshots were released on the Steam page. One of which was a screenshot of a clue present in the full game : the Dream Helmet, a helmet with opaque goggles owned by a certain 'Dr. Zephyr'. This is what makes me think that maybe, Freya's nightmares weren't just nightmares but perhaps a hereditary condition that she'd got from her mother, who may have been a patient of Dr. Zephyr, hence why they'd have made the helmet : to study said condition. Another potential evidence could be the Moon Vial from the demo, which may be a 'cure' to that condition. Mortuga did seem to have it before he dies, so maybe he suffered from the same condition and saw his death coming like Freya did hers and maybe Felicia ( if dead ) did also.

4th Theory : The culprit hid above the cauldron, not in.

Not much to this theory other than : the murder happened in a theatre. There's a red curtain, there's stool set in front of it, a promotional poster for a performance, and the cauldron could have been used as a scene, as the cloth hanging on the side of the room suggests, having footprints on it as well as marks looking like the top of the cauldron. So the culprit could have hidden on top of the 'scene' by just pulling the curtain.

And Last Theory : 'HER' is referring to Freya's mother or grandmother, Felicia or Selena.

Now I know the painting is of a mermaid, but- I don't think this is what 'HER' is referring to here. I think the plaque is positionned right above the water because it's hiding a boat, AKA the Dearest Selena ( because that's the only boat we know of- ) and that's what 'HER' is referring to. Either the person the boat was named after, Freya's grandmother, Selena, or the owner of the boat, Freya's mother, Felicia. Just like how in Tangle Tower, Flora's portrait isn't actually holding a knife, it's a misdirection. Plus there's the Stonetop emblem on the back of the painting- so it seems it did belong to Freya's family. Or it's referring to two people because of the two symbols above the Stonetop emblem. Maybe it's also referring to a Seafoam with the submarine being characterised by the mermaid- in which case- omg- what if Sylvia Seafoam x Felicia Stonetop romance ??? I'm getting off track-

sometimes i think about how ginny being controlled by the diary eerily parallels the way children are groomed by adults, especially in this age where kids have unrestricted internet access and are coerced into giving out their personal information to people who exploit them.

tom preyed on ginny's naivety and insecurities, controlled her, isolated her from her friends and family, and made her completely dependent on him. and no one knew because he didn't have to be there in-person to do it.

put all the horcruxes and magic aside and you have a story about an 11-year-old girl who was groomed by an older teenage boy.

so Fred is a really light sleeper

it comes from a combination of constantly thinking up new ideas, living in a house where a lot goes on, and just general restlessness when he’s not doing something

and tbh the only time he really falls into a deep sleep is when he’s drained physically

which is why after a quidditch game is Lee’s favorite time. 

Fred crawls into his bed once the lights are out and George’s snores can be heard through his bed curtains, shoves his cold feet under the covers and latches onto Lee with lanky arms and a fierce grip

“nice commentary today”

“thanks. did you appreciate my comment about you and George as ‘fiery haired twin shadows of one another”?

Fred’s laugh is quiet enough that Lee knows he’s drifting off to sleep already. “mm, poetic. really vivid imagery. you’ve got a way with words, Jordan.”

“such lofty praise.” but Fred just snuggles a bit closer, purposely tickling his fingers along sensitive ribs and Lee mimes shoving him away in response

really, its just a pantomime, a little scene where they try and kick each other out of bed, but Fred’s too tired today to keep it up and Lee’s too worn out from the high energy needed the entire afternoon

so it ends easily, with Fred nestled in the crook of Lee’s arm, close and content

Lee just brushes said fiery hair out of Fred’s eyes as they slowly close shut, and it’s endearing, because Fred always gets this dopey look on his face

all open mouthed, light snores, fluttering pale lashes and Lee can’t resist the urge to press a kiss to the tip of his nose - 

and Lee - he lives for these moments, really. Likes the peace that Fred can find in the quiet dark of their dorm, amidst cool sheets and by Lee’s side, and he’s always looking forward to quidditch games, for a number of reasons

but this ranks pretty high on the list

Fred smiles a bit in his sleep, mumbles something unintelligible - Lee catches a whisper of his name, something about cozy, something about sweet and - 

“you’re lucky I don’t tell anyone you drool in your sleep, because I don’t think even I could make that poetic” Lee groans quietly, as Fred’s head lolls onto his shirt.

fred just snores. and Lee smiles.
