Your Essential Tips for Summer Boating
Summer is definitely, undeniably, and undisputedly the boating season. Sure, you might use your boat throughout the rest of the year, but summer is when the experience comes to life. With clear skies and the sun shining bright, anyone would love to spend some time at sea or at lakes or in the ocean to cool themselves and experience fun adventures. Aside from doing fun activities in the water, you can finally put your aluminium plate boat to good use and even boast its beauty and power to your mates once you invite them to your boat for a mini party onboard or for a fishing excursion.
No matter how caught up you get with planning and mentally preparing yourself for your boating activities, you should never disregard safety and a little bit of maintenance work too. Having those things to keep in mind can help prepare your boat better so you’ll be assured that you will have the best time onboard.
So, whether this is your first summer on the water or you have been boating for decades, a few essential summer boating tips can always help you get more from the experience.
De-winterize Your Boat
Many boats sit unused on the harbour for three or more months before summer. This can cause some parts of the boat to rot and other rubber parts to dry from salt air and extreme temperature changes. In addition, fuel in the engine tank may break down, while moisture can lead to the corrosion of metal parts and electrical systems.
If the oil has been in the engine for months, consider draining it out and replacing it with fresh fluids. Old fuel can clog your engine components and possibly cause damage to your boat. Check all of the cables and hoses on your boat engine, including fuel and coolant hoses, and ensure they are tight and secure.
Prepare the rest of your boat as well. Make sure all the equipment you have are working properly. Clean your upholstery from dirt, grime, or dust. Clean your deck with an appropriate cleaner to avoid damaging your boat. If your boat has a self-draining deck, make use of it by washing your deck with water and soap to ensure that you’ve cleaned your boat well.
Bring Watersports Accessories
Depending on the kind of boat you own, adding a few water toys can make the experience more enjoyable for the whole family. You could look for a tube designed to be towed behind the boat, or even just some inflatables that can make it more enjoyable to swim off the side when the motor engine is off.
Boating is great, but it’s fun on another level when you spend your time on the water with the people who matter most in your life. So, as you schedule your boating adventures, be sure to call the friends and family who will make each trip one to remember.
Be Mindful of Water Traffic
One of the few disadvantages of summer boating is that everyone thinks of doing the same thing; which is doing boating adventures as well. Because of this, the amount of traffic on the water is high. The waterways can get as busy as a highway during rush hour traffic so be smart about when you choose to cruise. If you can’t help but boat around areas where there are a lot of people around, be aware of your surroundings and share the water. Pay attention to the people on the water and give other boats plenty of room. Don’t forget to adhere to the posted speed limit especially if you’re near shores, docks, or properties near the water.
Safety First Always
Given how busy the waterways become during the summer, plan ahead before going out for the day.
Make sure there are enough life jackets on board. Aside from being cautious for any emergencies that may happen, this is also required by law, and if you are pulled over by the coast guard by chance, you may receive a ticket if they find out you’ve not been storing life jackets onboard. And while we’re still on the topic of staying safe onboard, don’t forget to bring important devices such as a VHF radio to communicate with authorities and the Coast Guard who can offer you assistance when things go astray. A depth finder equipment to avoid running aground in shallow waters. A GPS device to help you navigate areas where you’ll be boating so you won’t get lost.
Don’t just focus all your energy on your boat. You also need to take care of your body as well. Fill a cooler with readily accessible water. In extremely hot weather, staying hydrated is critical! Plus there’s no greater feeling than quenching your thirst with a cold bottle of water.
Since it’s summer, the sun is shining its vast glory on anything under it. While being out under the sun can be beneficial and makes you feel better generally, long exposure to the sun can be harmful to your skin. And if you are aboard a boat without a canopy, it can be uncomfortable to stay in it for a long time. The UV rays from the sun can cause sunburns, rashes, discomfort, and even skin cancer. You don’t want any of those things to happen to you, do you? Remember to pack sunscreen or sunblock to keep your skin protected. Slab it on the areas of your body where it will get exposed to the sun and reapply it every few hours.
Explore New Areas
Make it a point to cruise to new destinations with your friends this summer. Make new experiences with those you want to create memories with by trying new things and going to new places. Summer is all about going to new locations, and it should ideally become a yearly goal for you if you can.

The Different Types of Fishing Reels and How to Use Them
Fishing reels allow anglers to cast their lure or bait at fairly large distances while fishing in large rivers and even fish in the deep waters of the ocean on their offshore fishing boats. Another main use of fishing reels is they let the fish reel in once you make your catch and then the reel lets the anglers successfully retrieve their lures at the end.
There is a whole variety of types of fishing reels, each of which contains unique features, characteristics, and uses. Anglers typically choose their fishing reel based on what fishing style they are going for as well as where they stand in terms of their fishing experience.
Here are the common types of fishing reels used by anglers:
Spincast
The Spincast reel is recognized as one of the easiest reels to use making it the perfect real for outfits designed for beginners and children. The primary reason behind that is how easy and convenient to use this reel. This reel has a cover or closed face keeping all the essential parts of the reel protected. It is also quite an inexpensive type of reel and requires a minimal investment
The Spincast reel is an ideal option for catching fish in freshwater habitats. You can catch small salmon, trout, channel catfish, and bass. The only possible downside of this reel is that it is not effective for targeting heavy fish or for long-term usage.
To use the reel simply press down on the thumb button on the back during your forward cast peeling the line out. Once you let go of the button, the line will stop peeling out making it easy to control. The only downfall of the reel is that the design costs you distance and accuracy. Thus, if you want to become an extreme angler this type of reel isn’t for you.
Baitcasting
Baitcasters is one of the most advanced fishing reels and can be extremely difficult to control if you’re not an experienced angler. The design of the reel is made solely for accuracy and not for usability or easy casting. Thus, practice makes perfect when using this reel. Baitcasting reels are the most powerful fishing reels, hands down. They can handle heavy lines and produce a lot of pulling power, making them a great option when you’re chasing larger fish. Baitcasters also allow you to feel the line as it’s going out, so you can stop it exactly when you need to.
Last but not least, bait casters are highly customizable. Whether you’re pulling out bottom fish from heavy cover, or doing drop shots for Bass, this reel can do it all.
When casting, you must keep the spool under control or it will turn into a nest of lines. This is done by typically providing a bit of pressure to the spool with your thumb. You should not use this reel with really lightweight lines but rather heavier lines and lures. Overall, you should be a very experienced angler before using a baitcasting reel.
Spinning
The spinning reel is the most popular reel used by anglers of all levels because of its superior open-faced design. This design adds the versatility you need while providing exceptional usability and accuracy. The design enables the spool to have excellent line capacity and is easy to exchange lines when needed. However, this reel is usually not built for heavier lines. Spinning reels are an immensely capable piece of fishing equipment. They work equally well with lures and smaller baits and are a good choice for some species and habitats. Combined with thin, powerful braided lines, they can produce some serious pulling power, too.
To cast with a spinning reel, you just disengage the bail and squeeze the line against the rod with your index finger to prevent it from unspooling. Next, swing your rod from the side or overhead. As you do, release your index finger around halfway through the motion. Aim the tip of the rod where you want the bait to land, and voila!
Fly Fishing
As the name suggests, the fly-fishing reel is one of the most vital gears for fly fishing. It gets this unique name because the lures used in this type of fishing often look like a bug or a fly. Although these reels were originally designed to catch trout fish mainly from streams and creeks, they are now used to catch all types of freshwater and saltwater fish.
A fly-fishing reel offers great accuracy when making a cast and is perfectly suited for fly fishing because this type of fishing requires the angler to be extremely precise when casting the line to their desired spot. They’re lightweight, basic, and generally very affordable.
It’s all about building up power with something called a back cast. You’ll have to manually pull the line off the reel and hold it in your hand. You’ll then quickly cast over your head or to the side in the opposite direction of where you want to cast. Do this quickly and powerfully and the rod will generate energy that will snap it back in the opposite direction which will be your forward cast.
The next time you hop on your plate boat to catch a particular fish species, you already know what fishing gear and equipment to use to ensure a successful catch!

Watercraft in Australia are not merely objects for hobbies; they’re a mode of transportation as well. People may travel on aluminium boats along lakes and rivers to visit friends and family members who live along the shores of lakes and rivers. Boats are also vessels for fun activities such as watersports. People who wish to go on wild and dynamic activities may take their plate boats to offshore waters where they can enjoy various thrilling activities such as paragliding, wakeboarding and skiing. These aquatic activities done on the forceful waves of the open seas are sure to unlock one’s daredevil personality as they perform amazing physical feats at high speeds.
Meanwhile, aluminium boat owners who prefer a relaxing day on the water can take their boats to inland environments. The winds and currents of lakes, rivers, ponds and estuaries may be calm and peaceful, allowing one to simply lay down on their boat and drift along the waves while connecting with friends and family members. One of the best peaceful activities that inland boaters can do on the water is fishing, a hobby that allows one to catch various freshwater fish such as bass, pike and trout. Furthermore, a camping session may follow along the shore as boat owners rest for the night with their loved ones. Camping and boating may be separate activities, but they complement each other perfectly.
People of different personalities, whether they’re of peaceful or excited temperaments, may find their favourite aquatic hobbies on the boat. Aside from their differences, boat owners may also boat simply to be close to nature. Being on a boat allows one to enjoy the water and the environment around them as they zoom along.
Here are some ways boat owners can enjoy the company of nature through boating.
Inland Waters
Boat owners who wish to enjoy the presence of nature may enjoy the sight of the shores in inland waters such as lakes, rivers, creeks and estuaries. Shorelines may be riddled with trees, rocks and fields that may provide people with the sight of greenery and collections of natural flora. If one is attentive enough, he may enough spot some wild animals such as deer, birds and bears from the safety of their boat in the water.
Camping
Boating and camping are two separate activities but they complement each other perfectly. After a day of boating, boat owners may spend the night along shorelines inside tents, warmed up by a bonfire and coaxed to sleep with the sounds of crickets.
Offshore Waters
There may be no shoreline or beaches to see when one is boating in the ocean. However, they can take a dive into the reef and view various fishes, corals and other wonders of the sea. Reefs are collections of marine species that may not be found in lakes and rivers.

Get the Termites Out of Your Boat with These Few Tips
Australia is the best country for aquatic getaways and vacations. The country’s marine environment is simply perfect for many occasions. This is because every state is abundant with lush and lively waters from offshore diving and watersport spots, and inland rivers, lakes, and ponds. These aquatic resources are ripe for exploration, and they beckon to many aluminium boat owners to launch out from their boat trailers and ride through the waves. The country’s marine environment offers the perfect opportunities for watersports such as paragliding, wakeboarding, skiing, and fishing.
People who own aluminium boats in the country have plenty of choices on what they want to do during their aquatic incursions. They could launch out from their boat trailer at their nearest beach and cruise to the faraway seas with their plate boats, where the vast open environment is perfect for swimming, diving, and watersports. Recreational anglers and explorers can also take their adventures to the water and cruise through the gentle waves. Lakes, ponds, and rivers offer the best environment for relaxation, and they breeze invite people to simply relax in their boats and drift along the waves with their families and friends.
While boating and cruising out into the country’s waters is an enjoyable activity, some factors can ruin the experience. For instance, insects could invade your plate boat and make your passengers uncomfortable. Particularly, termites can invade a boat that’s not been cleaned and maintained for a long time. These pests can cause damage to your ships and ruin the experience for you and your family.
Termite infestations are uncommon, but when they happen, they deliver gradual damage to boats. If they’re not removed from the vessel, they can cause eventual damage to electrical wiring, boat seats, life jackets, and other equipment.
Here are some ways you can get rid of a termite infestation in your boat.
Sunlight
One of the termites’ greatest enemies is sunlight. The heat of the sun is hot, bright, and highly unfriendly towards termites who love dark and moist environments. If your boat has a canopy or cover, remove it and let the sun glare into the termites’ habitats. The pests will eventually weaken and die when exposed to the heat of the sun. Allow the light to shine into your vessel, and as the heat permeates your deck, the termites will gradually go away. This method works great during hot weather such as summer.
The Cardboard Method
Take a piece of moist cardboard and place it in a corner of your boat. The moist cardboard piece will emit a smell that attracts female termites and urges them to make a nest there. Once they’ve nested, take the piece of cardboard out and burn it, along with the newly-started colony.
Call an Exterminator
If you feel like you have a nasty, persistent infestation, DIY methods will not be sufficient anymore. Simply dial an exterminator and allow them to deal with the infestation for you. If possible, they can check for infestation of other insects as well, and they can provide tips on how to prevent further invasion of pests into your boat.

Offshore Fishing Trip Safety Materials
When you’re out fishing offshore, unfortunate events can come from nowhere. Incidents can come from bad weather breathing out strong winds against your ship, or rough waves threatening to capsize your ship. In other cases, you might hook a lionfish into your boat when you’re fishing. Stings from fish such as these are nasty and can cause life-threatening ailments. Offshore fishing can also toss you into unsavory situations, such as getting caught by the evening and having no light to come back home safely.
Safety is the number one priority. Boaters should always keep this in mind when they’re on their offshore boat. While you may have the strongest plate boat in the market, you’re still at the mercy of the waves. A fishing boat in the middle of the deep sea is prone to more dangers than a regular fishing boat on a lake. This is why offshore boat owners should double their priority on safety. It would help to pack some safety gear on board as well.
Let’s dive in and take a look at some safety gear you should pack for your offshore fishing trip.
First Aid Kit
The contents of your first aid kit should include some band-aids, bandages, disinfectant for wounds, blunt-tipped scissors, and plasters.
You can buy regular first-aid kits in any store, and they can contain many basic first-aid materials including some extra items you might need.
You can also purchase first-aid kits from marine services and boating centres. First-aid kits from these places can contain everything you need for your offshore fishing trips.
Make sure your first-aid kits are stored in a place where they’re easily accessible. You could place them in a drawer marked with a big red cross. You can also mount the first-aid case on a standing surface in your boat, such as a wall.
Life Preservers
Life rings are crucial when a passenger is overboard. Don’t underestimate the waves – it’s hard to stay afloat in open water.
Lifejackets are a must, and they must always be worn whenever you’re on your plate boat.
Make sure that your life preservers meet quality standards. Floaties that you inflate and give to your kids at the pool aren’t enough to keep you afloat in the water for a long time.
Lights
When you’re fishing offshore and the sunset comes, it can get dark quickly. Try not to lose track of time when you’re in the sea. However, in case you do, ensure that your path home is safely illuminated.
You can head to your nearest boating center and buy lights for your boat. This will help fellow boaters spot you quickly in case you need assistance.
Don’t forget to buy a high-powered flashlight. When evening comes, and your surroundings are dark, a flashlight will illuminate your path. Make sure to buy extra batteries as well.
Before going out fishing, make sure to map out your path. Bring a compass as well. You should prioritize getting home safely.

Qualities of a Good Plate Boat
Boats have a lot of traits. For instance, an aluminium boat is good in calm waters, where there are no rough waves and harsh winds that can rock its lightweight frame. On the other hand, fibreglass vessels perform well as offshore boats because of their heavy frame. A plate boat is suitable for both types of environments.
Durable Hull
A boat must withstand impacts from obstacles. When fishing in ponds or lakes, there’s bound to be obstacles that can harm your boat. These obstacles include fallen trees and rocks. Brackish lake and pond waters can hide these obstacles and make them easy to bump into. This is especially true after rainy seasons, where the wet weather could introduce mud into the water. This ruins visibility. Currents can also make you crash into these obstacles if you avoid them.
You can also accidentally damage your boat when you launch it from your boat trailer. Sandbars underwater hidden by bad visibility can scratch the underside of your vessel as it’s coming down from the ramp.
A durable hull will ensure that you receive minimal damage from collision, impact, and scratches. Plate boats are known to be sturdy. They can withstand the strong impact with just a dent instead of a puncture hole.
Resistant to Rust
Aluminium doesn’t rust, making it the perfect material for fishing boats. Plate boats are made of overlapping aluminium plates, an improvement from the use of aluminium mold. Plate boat owners do not need to worry about rust.
You must drain, dry, and clean your boat after retrieving it from the water. Seawater can cause other kinds of corrosion that are different from rust.
Long-lasting
Owning a fishing boat is a lifelong responsibility. From the moment the keys land into your hand, you’re subject to legal fees, taxes, and licenses. Many boats are not fortunate enough to outlive these responsibilities, sadly. This is why boats need to last long.
The boat owner’s love and care for his vessel can influence its lifespan. This is greatly amplified if the boat is made from a long-lasting material. Aluminium is an example of this, which is why plate boats are popular.
Lightweight
A boat’s weight affects its maneuverability. Light aluminium boat drivers find such vessels easier and more fluid to accelerate, brake and steer.
Lightweight boats also leave less wake because they displace less water than heavy variants.
Fuel efficiency is also affected by the weight of the boat. Just like cars, lightweight boats need less power to operate. Thus, they don’t need a strong engine that requires plenty of gas.
Plate boats are easier to transport. They sustain lesser damage during bumps and collisions when they’re being trailered.
Despite being lightweight, the plate boat can function efficiently as an offshore boat and is better than boats made of aluminium mold.

Protective Gear for Your Fishing Trips
You can wear anything you want when you’re on your aluminium boat. If you fancy going out on a fishing trip wearing a luxurious tuxedo, a top hat, and a walking cane, it’s your choice. If you feel comfortable in it, and it doesn’t bother your fellow passengers or boaters, go ahead. However, many people would prefer wearing specialized gear for their boating trips, and it depends on whether they’re going fishing or engaging in watersports.
There’s no specific uniform or an article of standard clothing when you’re heading out on your fishing boat. However, you would want to wear something comfortable. Maybe something that you do not mind getting wet in. For instance, your fishing clothes are reliable boating gears because they’re made to withstand getting drenched. When you’re on your boat, whether you’re fishing or just doing some casual exploration around the water, you can expect to get wet a lot. This is because water tends to splash around as they’re displaced, and this gets even worse the faster you drive your plate boat.
Here are some outfits and gear you can equip when you’re heading out on your boat.
Fitting Outfits
You can choose to wear shirts that comfortably hug your skin, but still, allow air to flow into your body. Try not to choose outfits that are too loose. Remember that most boats have parts that jut out, such as hooks, heads of screws and bolts, nails, and levers. Make sure that your clothes don’t get stuck in those, or you could trip and fall overboard. The blow of strong winds is also a good reason to avoid loose clothes because they flap around and can be uncomfortable.
Acupressure Wristbands
These are armbands you can wear around your wrist made to apply firm pressure around your skin. These armbands prevent and remedy seasickness, and they work for many people. Many users claim that it’s an effective drug-free method of eliminating seasickness when travelling on boats. If you’re experienced in being in your plate boat, and you’re not prone to seasickness, you can still get a few of these acupressure wristbands for your passengers. It never hurts to have a few of them ready to be used.
Fishing Overalls
These waterproof clothes were made so that anglers could efficiently wade through water without having much of their clothing wet. They’re usually made of rubber or other waterproof materials, and they’re surprisingly effective in keeping water out. They’re also well-insulated, and their paddings make it easier for you to support your fishing rod with your body. This makes fighting stubborn fish easier when you’re angling. Fishing overalls protect sections of your upper body, and they completely cover everything from your stomach to your feet. If you want to stay dry when you’re on your aluminium boat, you can wear these overalls.
Aluminium boats are only getting better. The new and improved variant of aluminium vessels, the plate boats, feature the latest improvements in aluminium technology. Plate boats for sale are available in your local boating centres, and they offer the best durability and stability for your boating trips. Plate boats for sale as affordable as well, making them a popular choice for aluminium boat lovers.

Fire Safety Device to Keep on Your Plate Boat
Reminders for experienced and beginner boaters – you can still set fire to your tinnie. And even though you’re surrounded by miles of water, fire can still be hard to control if you don’t know what you’re doing. Fire on your aluminium boat can be as dangerous as the ones we can encounter on land. This is because when your tinnie is on fire, the only escape is to go overboard. This is why it’s important to keep safety items in your boat in case of fire.
For plate boat users, the aluminium material their tinnie is made of is non-combustible. Meaning, it doesn’t burn unless temperatures are very high. This is why plate boats for sale are popular among Australian boat brands and boating centres. However, materials in your boat can still catch fire. This includes the wirings in your centre console, pieces of cloth and paper, and fuel.
To prevent fires from going out of control, we need to add some equipment to our safety kit.
Fire Extinguisher
This active fire safety device is one of the most reliable equipments used to control fire. Contrary to popular belief, fire extinguishers don’t contain water. Instead, they contain fire retardant chemicals that are highly effective in sucking out oxygen from small flames. Once a fire starts, immediately reach for the fire extinguisher, pull the pin, aim, and squeeze. These will release a jet of fire retardant at high pressure. However, don’t use them when the fire is under control, too hot, or hard to reach. They’re best used to control small ignitions before they spread.
Remember the P.A.S.S. protocol for fire extinguishers. Pull the pin, aim for the base of the fire, squeeze the lever to release the fire retardants, and sweep left to right.
Always put your fire extinguisher close by like near your centre console.
Fire Blanket
This fire safety device is easier and quicker to use than fire extinguishers. It’s a sheet of fire retardant material used to smother a fire. Use them immediately when the fire starts to avoid it from going under control. As always, keep this material and all your other fire safety devices in areas that are easy to reach.
If you don’t have a fire blanket with you, you can use a large, thick blanket, cloth, or tower. Simply douse it in water and smother the fire with it. However, don’t do this with grease fires.
Water Hose
A high-pressure hose is effective in controlling small fires. Like with a fire extinguisher, aim for the base of the flame and squeeze side to side. The goal is to smother the oxygen out of the flame instead of drenching the fire with water.
Remember to never use water against grease fires. Water is known to cause to amplify grease fires, causing them to go out of control.
If you’re looking for extra protection against boat fires, you should get an aluminium boat. Aluminium material is non-combustible, and do not burn. This should make any fire on your boat easier to control. Visit your local boating centre for aluminium plate boats for sale.

If you’re a novice boater, you’re going to have a hard time removing such pests from your hull. That is if you have time to worry about simple barnacles, and your boat isn’t affected by other stains and damages.
As a boat owner, you must keep your boat clean and in tip-top shape. After all, a clean boat is a healthy boat. And nothing ruins a clean boat worse than some stains, damages, and pests. So, let’s dive in and take a look at the different minor issues your boat can have in its appearance.
Scratches
Boats are made of slick, smooth metal, like cars. While these are solid materials, metal can be prone to minor damages. Damages such as scratches might be insignificant, and they don’t do much damage to the material, they are sometimes obvious. They can ruin the majestic appearance of a plate boat. Plus, untended scratches on a boat’s hull are signs of a neglectful owner.
Just like cars, scratches can be fixed with the right materials. They can be expensive though, and you might not have experience in using them. Your best bet is to take your fishing boat to your nearest marine services center and have it fixed. While you’re there, you could ask mechanics to perform maintenance on your boat as well.
Barnacles
If you own an offshore boat, you’re going to get barnacles a few times. These are pesky creatures that latch onto your boat with sticky excretions. They bond strongly, and removing them will feel like scraping concrete. They’re even worse when you take them out on the water. The sticky excretion that sticks them to your boat will dries and bond stronger to your hull.
Just imagine having the most luxurious fishing boat in the market, but it’s crowded with barnacles on one side. It ruins the appearance.
Barnacles are very hard to remove. Inexperienced boat owners may opt to scrape them off the hull. However, a barnacle’s bond to a boat is too strong, and forcefully scraping it off can cause scratches and peels.
Boat owners need anti-biofouling chemicals to remove barnacles safely. New plate boat models usually come with anti-biofouling coats to protect them from barnacles.
Bird Droppings
If you keep your boat out in the open, you should cover it. Birds don’t care where they excrete your wastes, and bird droppings could foul your boat’s paint. Plus, the smell and appearance are never pleasant.
If you’re out in the water, you’ll have to worry about seagulls and albatrosses as well.
