Octavia cannot imagine a life where she's content, everything seems to come at a price for her and she's not felt comfortable since she was sixteen. It's not fair but life isn't fair. So the moment something goes well for her, she gets suspicious, she can't get too comfortable if she does then she'll lose a good thing. She's simultaneously distant and clingy, reflecting how she's naturally a bit of an oxymoron of a woman.

the admission comes after a particularly harrowing moment of creeping where they should not be, until rixian returned with fuller pockets and the keys to the building they were hoping to get into hooked onto his belt. he’s content with his haul until she speaks up and he gives a crooked smile.

he reaches into his pockets, dancing a gold coin across his fingers before he catches it with his thumb and forefinger to look at the face of the lord of waterdeep stamped into the soft metal.

Rix would never know how difficult it was for the bard to admit that maybe, just maybe, the half-elf managed to get better results than she did. But if it’s in the blood, she supposes that she can forgive her unknown rival for his skills.After all, they’re certainly an asset and Tav’s nothing if not a bit of a leech blessed with an eye for talent.

Or a tragic one. Even a happy one will do, if she’s in the mood for it, though that's painfully rare. They're too popular a request for her.

the transition from people needing each other to wanting each other is literally one of my greatest weaknesses that shit makes me want to walk into the sea and sit on the ocean floor for a thousand years
