          Gon has a habit of being incredibly selfish; his naivety takes a bitter toll on his conscience half the time and he doesn’t even realize he’s doing it until, well, someone points it out or in the case of a major slap to the face. He remembers pre-chimera ant Kite, who did just that. Gon’s conscience runs deep on the line where it matters most but his friends and lifelong companions are the ones who really keep him on track. Sometimes Gon thinks he’s too lucky to have met such lovely people (even though Tonpa is a huge pain in the ass, he still finds the strange pump man entertaining; he doesn’t even have to mention what a creep Hisoka is actually but hey, the man certainly is his inspiration to become stronger – sort of). In spite of that thought, he thinks maybe this is fate and that he actually was and still is destined to meet these kinds of people and experience these timeless adventures. He’s not aware of what’s exactly in store for him but Gon knows that whatever encounters he’s bound to come across, they’ll become that big asset that’ll change his life – again – and this time for the better.           Well, he’s not saying his journeys with Killua were bad per se, but it’s been a while since they’ve last seen each other. Last he heard, Killua was off in some strange continent (but he doubts it’s really that strange; he could almost hear Killua’s judging yells over how clueless he is – or for the lack of a better description: stupid) with Alluka. They must’ve been well, and Gon can only imagine all the kinds of fun the two siblings are having. Meanwhile, he’s stuck on Whale Island, studying his ass off because Mito is apparently a she-devil when it comes to his studies. Gon’s not studious, especially not textbook studies; he understands what he reads but it’s difficult for him to put into practical use – classical literature isn’t all just fun and games like some assume. And let’s not get into the numbers either, he’s notably known for being impeccably useless in mathematics. Heck, he has difficulties using his brain half the time for common sense anyway, what single answer can he come up with just a formula?           He loses a lot of brain cells storming up that one answer, he’s really better off fighting bad guys and saving the world – just like old times.           But Gon is smart in his own way despite how lackluster he may appear. What’s that saying again? Don’t judge a book by its cover? Yeah, something along those lines. In any case, he’s semi-regretting leaving the comfort of his home with Mito yelling through one ear and out the other. At the same time, he’s having the time of his life because this is honestly the most action he’s gotten in all those months of studying. He hooks himself back up from under the tree branch, green boots dangling beneath him as he looks down at the nameless but furious hunter. Hunter, the man proclaims and at one point, Gon shot disapproving glances at the other because he clearly wasn’t a Hunter. Or at least not a real one.           The man probably pawned that card off from somewhere.           He’s not happy about it. It reminds him of that time, long ago, when he first started his journey, prior to meeting Killua and Kurapika, that one time where he and Leorio freed those animals from that circus. It’s not a pleasant memory and luckily he’s not the type to be easily tarnished in terms of expectations. Ging’s a Hunter and by all means, his father might as well be the best. Even though he is trash-- He’s only gotten this far because of the motivation to find him after all.           But task at hand, Gon shoots another glare down at the man, sticking out his tongue in defiance.                               ❝ If you’re really a Hunter,                                                   getting up here should be nothing! ❞
