Rewatching S1 of Arcane after S2 made me notice how hollow Vi’s voice was when she told Jayce that the kid “knew what they were signing up for.” It’s clear in her tone that Vi is not happy or pleased that the kid died. She doesn’t believe the words that she is saying. But it is done. And she doesn’t want Jayce to give up the fight, so she tells him what she thinks will let him set aside his guilt. She is pissed that people like him having been indirectly killing Zaunite kids for decades and only now that it’s in his face does he want to stop doing something that may help it.

It does not sound like she is at all hypocritical when she stops Caitlyn from possibly shooting Isha. Vi was never alright with kids dying. Or would want to contribute to the death of one if she can stop it. And this time she can stop one more trencher kid from dying, so she does.
