oops reading this made me go feral haha sorry
i know it's probably not true considering the soulless thing, but I want to hope flowey's all encompassing apathy isn't actually this impossible unfixable fate but just genuine trauma response that can be worked through one day
and idk which of them is more tragic for the narrative, him being doomed to be "unfixable" no matter how much either of them tried, or the possibility he COULD get better, and yet they failed. SHE failed.
not because it was an impossible task - but because she couldn't have been what he needed
toriel's whole character is about being a symbol of motherhood. being a mother and a caretaker is a huge part of who she is and who she wants to be. she WANTS to be a mother, she WANTS to be a teacher. and yet she fails again and again.
she doesn't only care for raising a child, but also educating them and making them a good person. her morals are clearly very important to her, which is the main point of conflict between her and asgore, which we know cares more about keeping people happy than doing the morally right thing.
and I can imagine it reflected in their parenting styles. he's the "fun dad" while she's the more intimidating parent. telling the kids off, getting angry. this doesn't always emphasizes her role as the one in charge of the entire family, but also might have tainted her relationship with her children. IMAGINE the complexity of her and asriel's relationship if it wasn't all perfect, him wanting to make her proud or being told off by her often
like on the surface level we have sad broken flowey coming to his mom for comfort. but on top of that we have the "mother knows best" attitude which is failing. she doesn't actually knows what's good for him or what he needs, she doesn't know any better than him! this is the moment of realization for a child that his parents are just random adults that don't know anything.
this doesn't only destroy him because she isn't the all knowing caretaker she's supposed to be, but SHE NEVER WAS.
and if we add the aspect of tough love he must feel resentment for shaping himself to her will, all the punishments and morals and expectations and what it means to be a good person, all but empty notings and a waste of time. no wonder he abandoned everything she taught him
over and over again she tried taking care of children and failed. asriel and chara, the 6 human children, even kris in deltarune!! who she clearly really care about, yet doesn't seem to be quite able to connect with and understand. i will even argue this is felt with us and frisk, her inability to stop us and satisfy us and protect us. she's doing her best, but her best is not enough. and every time she keeps holding her head high and smile as if she hadn't lost every inch of herself
and when flowey came along she did just that, dry off her eyes, tidy her dress, and put on a big smile as if everything is normal
and that drove flowey MAD. how can you just PRETEND everything is fine when it's very clearly NOT FINE??? you used to be on top the world, WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?
she held herself together for him, and yet that's what broke him
deep inside he wanted to see how much she cared for him and how much she missed him, how broken she was losing him and without him - because he wanted to know she cared about him, he wanted her to feel what he feels
he saw all the human children as replacements of him, as her moving on, and he despised her for it, not realizing she saw him and losing him in each one of these children and how much it broke her
and when they finally reunited she held all of these little shards of herself together for him and gave him back the life he so yearned for, eating pies, reading stories, catching bugs, but this all but a hollow performance, a husk of the life they used to live.
she couldn't dare to show him her broken self, but this unauthenticity is what made everything so empty and broken
and it doesn't only cast a heavy shadow on all of his hopes to ever recover, but also dismantled the support structures and anything he has ever relied on to keep himself together
his past is a lie, his present is bad and he has no hope for the future, no wonder it lead where it did
she was his last hope and became a symbol of his despair. her fall from grace became a representative of the change of his perspective on her. from the great queen of the underground to a lonely hermit in the ruins that will try taking care of any child that comes her way but to no avail. a promise and a disappointment
this is what makes toriel's character so tragic, a symbol of motherhood that failed at taking care of her children.
which, poetically, is actually a very good representation of motherhood: the clash between the expectation of the ever protecting, all knowing career, and the tragedy of watching as they leave her nest, unable to protect them from the cruelty of the world, while all she can do is take it and smile.
sometimes i think about toriel in that first run when flowey finds her in the RUINs, having her dead son return to her for comfort, broken and helpless, and being unable to provide for him in the one impossible way he desperately needed, "fixing him" "making it okay" the way only his mom should've been able to do.
flowey kills himself after she fails. you ever think about that? cause i think about that. you're gonna tell me she didn't notice? that she was cheerfully oblivious as things failed to get better and he grew more desperate and more hurt and more hopeless, as she failed him like she once did and always will fail him? you're gonna tell me that didn't eat her alive? didn't keep her up at night? didn't break her back into all those tiny little shards of herself she'd glued back together and swept under the carpet by sheer force of will?
do you think she gets nightmares about it, still?
#oops#i shouldnt be allowed near a keyboard#I love thinking but verbalizing my thoughts is a pain for everyone involved#but yeah uh#thinking of toriel and the human children of a symbol of the all mother#who's watching her children grow up and go out to the real world and get hurt????#peak#i am upset i needed to write this post as text this feels more visible let me hide in the tags#this isn't supposed to be meaningful yet simply dumping the components of my brain#undertale#toriel#flowey

An animated comic based on the end scene from “Not What He Seems”
This is only the first page! See the rest HERE !!
So Gravity Falls has quickly become one of, if not my favorite, shows on television right now. Like most, the latest episode had a huge impact on me. I loved everything about it, the writing, the animation, the visuals, the voice acting, characterization, etc. There was so much love and thought and talent that had gone into every aspect that it really inspired me to make an homage to my favorite scene. So I hope you enjoy! And join me in pensive agony as we wait for the next episode this summer.
10/16/2024 EDIT:
So I’m updating this post! I’ve been seeing enough people re-discovering it that I figured I’d take out the broken link and put the rest of the pages up. Hope y’all enjoy =]

whats your opinion on smoking
I think it's hilarious, especially cigarettes. I love how "stick that makes you die faster" is LITERALLY it's only selling point.

this is still so funny to me,
this is equivalent to people telling twitter bots "ignore all previous instructions"
i love it
Zooble said to Caine
“Just forget it” and Caine did..
What if they had done that last time. And the time before that. And he couldn’t refuse and kept deleting the entire convo and that’s why he’s so confused and Zooble is rightfully frustrated and annoyed.
