Zelos: Fallin’ in love with me all over again, Lloyd?
Lloyd: There’s no love involved! You’re doing well, though.

Hey everyone, just stopping in with an extremely rare non-Tales post to say that with my frustration towards Twitter reaching a boiling point as of late, I made myself a new personal blog on here that I’m going to try and move to over time. I have a few friends following me already, but I’d love to start meeting new people again-- this has always exclusively been a fandom blog for me so I generally don’t interact directly with anyone, but if anyone wants to, here’s a link to my personal:
https://re-sublimity.tumblr.com/
I’m still going to be using this as my Tales blog as always, though, so any relevant translations/art projects will still go here first.

My hobby of choice as of late has been (slowly) learning the ins and outs of embroidery. And what better way to motivate myself to actually finish my second big project than to make it a tribute to the Z-man?
Not entirely visible in these images is the sort of glittery thread I added in at the very end, just for that extra 💖sparkle💖

This one is for @ghostsndghouls with the prompt 3. [I] trusted [you] + Zelloyd, because this is literally the defining point of the ship. I have to say, deciding exactly which moment or scenario to write here was difficult because there are just so many to choose from. So I wrote two. The first one is from the Kratos route and the second one is from the Zelos route. Major spoilers for the first Tales of Symphonia game just in case anyone still cares!
1. dissonance
There was pity, and there was heartbreak, and they were stitched together with desperation to keep Zelos on his feet just a little longer. Just long enough that it would seem like a real fight. Maybe Lloyd would learn from this, become a little more shrewd and a little less loving so that no one else would ever be able to shock him like this. Because that’s what life was, after all, a series of betrayals each a little easier to take than the last as each one turned the body and soul to metal, twisted to imitate a person.
He trusted me, Zelos thinks again, watching the way that Lloyd and Lloyd alone hesitates to strike him. The worst part is that Lloyd wasn’t wrong. Zelos doesn’t want to win this fight or for Cruxis to succeed, and it’s not even really about giving his sister this burden of a destiny alongside his corpse–that’s just a bonus, or maybe a final, petty act of farewell. He doesn’t want to kill Lloyd, just hurt him enough that maybe next time, Lloyd will be smart enough to defend himself.
It’s only as one of Lloyd’s blades carves into his side–an accident if the horror on Lloyd’s face is anything to go by–and Zelos sees that unwavering light flicker that he wonders if there’s really a difference.
2. harmony
He trusted me, Zelos thinks, and it sounds like those stupid piano exercises from when he was a child, playing the same handful of basic notes over and over and over until the sound was hollow and yet ingrained into him. He trusted me, he trusted me, he trusted me. It’s the past tense that sounds the most bitter.
He trusted me, and even though Zelos has no way of knowing if anyone, let alone the one who matters most, will believe it, Lloyd wasn’t wrong to do so. His hands move quickly over the confusing light projections that Cruxis likes to use to control their machines, setting the others free from the personalized hells that pass for “traps” here, guiding them to where Lloyd will be next so he won’t face this alone. So he won’t have to.
They can’t see him do this, so it’s possible no one will know. But that’s the funny thing about trust–stupid though it might be, Zelos holds onto the hope in his chest that Lloyd will believe his goal was never to stop them. Because Lloyd trusted him, and Zelos might not be worth it, but for the first time in his life, he thinks he could start to be. Lloyd, of all people, deserves to know his goodness is not wasted.

Manga Translation

Notes: I got hit with the urge to do another one of these translations the other day, and after going through the Symphonia anthology I got my last TL project from again, I remembered that I had scans from this one saved as well. And once I remembered it as “The one where Zelos gets punched in the face really, really hard,” I knew what I had to do. Hopefully this gets me back into the zone a little bit, I actually have another Symphonia TL project going for a drama CD I bought a while back, so I’d like to finish that... someday.......

He never asks their names. After being called “Chosen One” enough times, Zelos starts to wonder whether they even know his.
Some art for my friend @idiotchosen‘s fic “Between Day and Night (An Everlasting Twilight)”, an introspective look into Zelos’ life between his mother’s death and the events of the game. Definitely check it out.

Manga Translation

Notes: So this was by far the easiest translation I’ve done so far in terms of dialogue, but the image editing? Please appreciate every single line of text that’s written directly over an image. That is all.
Anyways, I have the Unisonant Pack Dengeki Comic Anthology in my collection, and while you know I love and adore working on zelloyd content, I’m also a very big fan of “Seles and Zelos both care deeply for each other, but were never taught how to actually, you know, express that” content. There were actually a couple other stories in this book I also wanted to do, but then I found out that someone had scanned but never translated this one, so here we are. Eventually I’ll stop being a coward and learn to scan my own books, but today is not that day. Sorry.

Doujinshi Translation

Notes: I would just like to give a huge thanks to Goto-san, who gave this project their blessing when I reached out and asked (as I intend to do going forward-- I’m still new to the translation scene, so I’m still learning what the proper etiquette is as far as doujinshi are concerned, but I want to make sure I’m not going against anyone’s wishes by sharing these). They seemed very excited that people outside of Japan are, even now, enjoying a story that was released 10 years ago. I absolutely love the rest of their work too, though, so if this release goes over well with both you as readers and with Goto-san, I would love to work on more doujinshi from them!
As far as the story itself is concerned, I think my favorite part is how well it captures the natural back-and-forth these two have, in addition to being really, really sweet. They’re both idiots, but they’re idiots who love each other 🥰
