Why the meaningless movies are the mainstream nowadays? part 1
One of the biggest sector of the entertainment is the cinema and the films. The studios, directors and actors made trillions of dollars each year. The background money is huge. With the support of the Netflix almost everybody can make a movie if his idea good enough. If everything is given, Why are there just a few good films out there? Why we have so much Transformers ? And why we don’t have more Fight club type films? The answer is found in the consumer needs. The fans don’t need a lot of meaning what they can think about, they only go for the experience. Old burned out directors make the math behind the films. The viewer feel like he sit on a roller coaster, , every second of the movie is calculated.
Source: Google
“But what’s the wrong with that?
- ask the reader. Pretty easy the answer for that dear reader: that’s not count like an art. Most of the big movies are Brilliant because of meaning. One of my favorite movie is the Avatar, its a beautiful film. The jungle the species are looks so real, the whole plot is genius. But without the meaning of the film all these elements are pointless. The message of the nature of the human is the key to understand the movie. The Avatar gives experience and a little bit of knowledge what is yours and you can bring it home.

A miracle entitled “Lady Bird”
By Marcela Ortega-IB student
A unique and unrepeatable experience
Christine is the story of a young woman who calls herself "Lady Bird", who leans towards the arts and who dreams of going to college on the east coast of the United States, wishes live through something and leave a sacrament.
Source: Google
This film is a unique experience that any young person who attends the last year of high school could be going through, wanting more of life and leaving the city in which we have lived all our lives, this movie has a unique way of reaching the heart of the spectator, apart from this the empathy of the protagonist, that is, Christine (Saoirse Ronan).
Source: Google
Young people can feel identified with the protagonist, as it can be the reflection of ourselves, and feel that we share at some point in our experience, concerns, conflict or any other type of links, and all these small elements are essential for enjoy the movie very fully.
Source: Google
In "Lady Bird", the filmmaker Greta Gerwig of Sacramento, through the most natural dialogues opens her heart and close to her personal experience, one could say that it is the luck of semi-autobiography, and is projected with a captivating, delicate and a beautiful modesty, makes us see the personal challenges of the jump from adolescence to maturity, which are recognizable and make it impossible for us not to identify, we have all gone through that.
Source: Google
Trying to fit into a world to which we do not belong and apparently there is no place for us, we have had problems with our family and discover our identity, that without any effort the film seems to embrace us and manages to immerse us in a peculiar universe, as it seems that the film seems not to be about anything in particular but that, in turn, it deals with everything.
Source: Google
It is of the films that cause us a natural nostalgia and we need to exploit designs, a lot of production, soundtracks to generate fabricated yearnings, just like these days
Source: Google
My experience when I watched the movie:
At the moment that the movie starts I felt the almost instantaneous connection with Christine, and it has stayed under my skin for a long time, since I am about to start the stage in which she is passing, I would also like to say that Greta Gerwig makes a very good debut in solitary behind cameras, since it manages to project a sweet nostalgic look to the adolescence, without any type of artifice, with much warmth, sensitivity; that regardless of our age manages to touch our heart, if you are a teenager you feel identified, if you are an adult it makes you remember those times.

Teens on Netflix: everywhere and anywhere
by Lucero Rodríguez, IB student
Nowadays teenagers use their free time to surf thru the internet
What I like about the Internet is Netflix, this is a platform where you can watch movies and series on any laptop, tablet or smartphone.
This platform became trending since last year, with which all young people are obsessed and I include myself in as one of them.
source: infoMercado
When I have some free time I open the Netflix app and look for a movie or series to entertain me for a while, but sometimes that time can be quite a while without realizing. While you're watching a series the time passes super fast without noticing. You forget that you have to do other things for being so involve about what happens in the film.
Young people have a lot of this kind of situation because they have Netflix at their fingertips, on the smartphone. Because this platform is found everywhere is very easy to open the app and distract yourself watching a movie, and that's why the teengers spend a lot of time in this application.
source:cultofmac.com
People take it with them to everywhere. Anywhere at any time they can see it, with or without internet as you can download movies too, to not have to spend your cellular data on it.
but is it bad for teenagers spend their time on netflix?
It is not bad that they spend some of their free time in this app, however, it is necessary that this time don't be too long.
The problem with this is because teenagers are on the platform neglect their school and home duties, therefore, it is necessary to establish a time limit so that these type of situations do not occur.

Here are some tips which young people can use to use Netflix without neglecting their obligations:
1. Use an agenda to organize your time and activities.
2. Download an app where you disable the other apps to not spend more time due like AppLock on androids or Screen Time on Iphones.

3. Perform an outdoor activity.
4. Read a book before watching a movie on Netflix.
5. Spend time doing an activity with the family.

Why do we like superheroes?
Ismael Salto, IB student
In these last years, the interest in superheroes and their stories has grown. One of the main factors for this global interest is the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and the end of the ‘Infinity Saga’ with the movie ‘Avengers: End game’. Even if we consider that many people go to the cinema only to be a part of a conversation and not for a real interest in the characters, the main question of this article remains: why do we like superheroes?
For their costumes? For the science fiction in the comic books? The powers they have? Or because, even if we don’t have super powers, we identify with them? And, like a mirror, our favorite characters live in a similar world than us.
Source: Tenor.com
In my personal opinion, one of the main goals for entertainment is to keep us distracted (and I’m not talking about procrastinating). Some times we need a way to stop thinking about our issues and the major problems of our society, like corruption, violence, problems in school, and many others.
One of the best ways of explaining this is with the Second World War. While all the violence surrounded Europe and the consequences of the war affected other countries, people looked comics and superheroes like a momentary exit door for reality. They looked comics and said: ‘If only superheroes were real, maybe the issues of the world would be easier’ A little word, a great start for imagination. Maybe. They read pages with dialogues and images that comics gave them, like a piece of art, not only hope for a better world, they also gave them the dream of becoming heroes who can be part of a better reality.
Source: Life.com
That’s the second reason, we identify with the superheroes and their problems. We don’t have spider senses nor we can climb like spiders, but we identify with Peter Parker and his story as Spider-Man. A young boy who has to use their powers in order to become a hero for his city. And, like many of us, Peter has problems with school, with their romantic relationships, with their family, and with his job.
In deeper aspects, his origin story represents all of us that in one moment had the opportunity to help someone and we didn’t, leaving that person alone. The death of Uncle Ben was the reason why Peter decided once and for all that all his strength and power would be used for a better purpose.
Source: looper.com
Another example is Batman. The video ‘Why Batman is my favorite character?’ for the Youtube Channel The Top comics, it’s a great explanation of the representation that Gotham City offers about our context. A city is full of corruption and violence. A city that needs hope, and ironically it’s offered by a man in a bat suit. Bruce Wayne represents all of us, and show us how, even in the worst places, we decide if we became the dark that surrounds us or we fight against it.
Source: Variety.com
We identify with superheroes because they are a reflection of our deepest desire for justice and a better place to live. They invite us to escape a moment for reality but also remember that the world can be better, or worst. It’s our decision.
As Stan Lee said :
‘Heroes show us we don’t need to be perfect to do what’s right,
It’s not about living without fear, but facing injustice
It’s not about being powerful but finding your calling when you least expect it
They show us it’s okay to be vulnerable no matter how tuff you are
Because even tho they are heroes ……….they still humans’
