okay i hope you don't mind me tacking a boatload of text onto this but i have a lot of feelings about it because??

the way vulcans are raised it's like, they don't just act like emotions are bad, they almost act like emotions don't exist in vulcans (even though we know from history that that’s not true, but it certainly might seem that way from a child’s point of view)

so the fact that spock is even feeling these emotions isolate him even further from other vulcans as a child because he thinks its so WRONG, it’s not the vulcan way

so he tries to be like the rest of them, pretends his emotions don’t exist, prioritizes logic over everything else because THAT’S the vulcan way

but then when he gets older the fact that he pretends to not have emotions isolates him just as much from the humans he knows because for humans it's wrong to NOT have emotions

they won’t ever let him forget he’s only half-vulcan, half-human, half-breed, but they also won’t let him be both. even the crew of the enterprise. bones treats him like an ALIEN, a green-blooded hobgoblin, while jim calls him the most HUMAN soul he’s ever encountered

basically it's a no-win situation that spock just keeps losing

okay but in tos whenever someone calls spock a half-breed, you just KNOW that it hurts him. it’s offensive and people seem to use it without thinking, but ever since he was a kid he’s always felt like he doesn’t belong with the vulcans, or with the humans. it hurts him a lot, though he won’t show it.

The Doctor shrugs. “Alright, if that’s what you want to see. Thought you’d be more interested in the history department, though. The education building, too, ‘s over that way.” He nods in a different direction, towards a pale rainbow-colored structure.

“To the library first, though!” With a hand he beckons her over to the set of stepping stones that will take them to the library. “Love books, actually. Greatest things in the universe. Been to some not-so-nice libraries, ‘course, but everywhere you go books are books.”

“Beats me. Space pirates are the best kind of pirates! Though, space anythin’ is the best kind of anythin’, in my book. Bit of an enthusiast, me. Love a good trip through the stars.”

“Nah, fans don’t appreciate that kind of nonsense, and seeing as I plan to continue writing for a long time I kind of need them to continue liking me. At least until my main series ends, anyway. I think I would mind less if they didn’t read about the spin-offs I want to write. Although, why they wouldn’t want to read the spin-offs I’ll never know. Who doesn’t want to read about space pirates, eh?”

The Doctor frowns at the phone, seeing the already upgraded circuitry within. "Guess I really am getting old,” he mutters, and points his newest sonic screwdriver to its insides anyway. No harm in a tune-up, after all. Always got to make sure the super phones are working at full capacity.

“Anyway, 1-PLUM’s a public school. Gets funding from the government. People’s taxes at work in the best a’ ways!” He holds out the phone for her to take, then points at a set of the floating stepping stones a little ways ahead of them, which are taking people to and from a specific building that looks to be made almost entirely out of windows. “I’ll show ya. You like history, right? We’ll go visit the department. Maybe talk to some professors while we’re at it.”
