This is how I originally wrote it. One of those that starts as a poem and then begs to be a song. I posted a fragment of this on tumblr a while back, but here’s the initial piece in its entirety 🤍

i love halsey because she'll write lyrics like "a girl like that is a mother, must be tough/ a problem child, i was rough/ but what do you do with a difficult grown up?" and then in another song she'll rhyme "michigan" with "bitch again"

if aaron dessner was a frog i'd carry him in my shirt pocket and buy him a little top hat so he can accompany me on long walks in the nature

tell me why must i write it out point at what hurt me why and whom explain it all to you reason why my brain now works differently why my heart beats slowly and my lungs breathe brokenly why must i write you little macbeths of tragic heroes and ladies of misery of the sorrow that washed its hands of me why you insist on giving it a name a place a hold, to in my being, remain do you demand of someone to explain their grief have them point to a casket and say this is why i mourn why then in the murder of me must i come here and show you why losing that innocence left only half of me to be
