Old people have the weirdest hangups

We just invited the neighbours over, two women in late 50s, early 60s, to wish happy new year and such. It's 10 am. Grandma immediately started planning a meat spread, potica, pršut, klobasa...

I offered it would be better to ask them if they are hungry, since it's probably only an hour or two after breakfast, or if they would prefer only coffee and something sweet.

My grandma was horrified! You can't just ASK THAT!

Despite her also feeling annoyed when she is invited to coffee somewhere and finds the host preparing a ton of food

I imagine she subconciously still lives in a time when food was scarce and as a host you needed to feed people to show proper hospitality. Despite the modern times, where food is plenty and available at all times
