Real, actual, breathing witches who get their craft boxes at Hobby Lobby and their herbs and crystals from New age shops.

It’s time to write about the rainbow of witches with pink hair and piercings who adopt cats from the shelter and burn incense in their one-bedroom apartments. Its time to write about the witches still living at home and are content with their dogs while they set up an altar for sabbats.

It’s time to write about the deep bonds built in dorm rooms on Tuesday nights, where sage is burned and constant overhead vigilance of the smoke detector is just a part of the ritual. Where Old Gods are summoned to rooms akin to a shoebox with one Bath and Body Works candle. The windows are cracked and the smoke gently drifts out like ribbons to mingle with the atmosphere of campus.

Now is the time to write about witches. The new witches who purchase their soon-to-be Book of Shadows from Barnes and Noble and who have risen from the ashes of their scorched sisters. The New Witches who write blogs and have stunning Instagram photos and sell their crafts on Etsy.

Write about the New Witches who burn with star fire in a pulsing nightclub and whose laughter shatters the souls of all who hear. Write about the New Witches who long to have a cottage covered in ivy but live six stories up in a crowded city.

Write about the witches who hold the Old Ways and New in each palm, and blend them seamlessly into their everyday lives.

Write about those kinds of witches.
