It was nothing new for Michael to sit waiting at the foot of her bed. Usually, it was a date or something of the like but tonight was different. Something of a hush was held over the Hawthorne rooms. The hallways seemed to breathe, the energy tingling the tips of his fingers. The very molecules in the air felt different. Maybe it was the extra power in the air-all the witches visiting, including the reigning Supreme. More likely, it was nothing but his anxiety, though he hated to admit it. He would perform the Seven Wonders the next day and nothing would ever be the same.

He knew he would succeed. That wasn’t the part that was making his stomach clench and his jaw tighten but it was the fact that after that he had an in. There would be no turning back. He would work the system through the coven and end up on top in the position of his birthright. He would fulfill the destiny set for him, feel the weight of the world on his shoulders and then manage to destroy it.
