Like, honestly the fur and the shape wouldn't even be bad if it wasn't strangely naked in the middle for no reason? The minecraft model is not like that? Did they even look at the game models or did they just hear "block game" and roll with it?

Actually I have the same complaint about the terrain. Like, yeah, minecraft is "made of blocks" but not just any random sized blocks. The mountains are not made of bigger blocks. The flowers are not just very small blocks.

This isn't a translation ask about hatari but im just wondering. What are Icelandic pet names? (babe, love, sweetie ect.) thanks in advance!

The main equivalents that we have are:

- elskan (literally “the love”, gender-neutral) - this’d generally be how you’d translate a term like “babe” when used to catcall or approach a stranger, but you might also use this for your spouse.

- ástin (also literally “the love” and gender-neutral) - this one would sound pretty strange as a catcall or to approach a stranger, reserved mostly for actual long-term partners. Some people might also use this for their children (that’s what’s going on in Sofðu unga ástin mín).

- ljúfur/ljúfan (masculine/feminine respectively, meaning gentle or sweet) - tends to be used to translate “honey”.

However, I would say these are significantly more common in translations than in people’s actual speech; our usual terms of endearment work a little differently. The most common way to affectionately refer to someone in Icelandic is to add minn (masculine) or mín (feminine), literally “my”, after their name. So if, say, Ronja were affectionately asking Klemens to do something, she’d probably be more likely to go “Klemens minn, gætir þú…” (literally “My Klemens, could you…”), rather than “Klemens, elskan” or “Klemens, ástin”, or “Klemens, ljúfur” (though all of those would also be possible, or just “Elskan” or “Ástin” or “Ljúfur”). In English, “My Klemens” sounds weirdly overdramatic and kind of old-fashioned, but in Icelandic this is a very normal casually affectionate way to address someone, and a lot more common than any of the above pet names. You can use it for your spouse, your child, another close family member, your pet…

“Elskan” and “ástin” are also commonly used with mín (elskan mín, ástin mín), probably more commonly than on their own. Note that it’s not ever “elskan minn” or “ástin minn”! Elskan and ástin are both feminine words, even if the actual person they refer to is not, so any descriptors you attach to them should also be feminine, regardless of the actual gender of the person being referred to. They’re still gender-neutral terms and it’s perfectly normal to refer to a man that way. I know this sounds super-weird to English-speakers, but this is how gendered languages work.

Ljúfur, on the other hand, is specifically a nounified masculine form of an adjective, and it’d sound grammatically odd to call a woman that. The feminine form would just be “ljúf”, but that doesn’t really sound good as a pet name, so the feminine version adds a definite article ending, “-an”. (“Elskan” is actually a nounification of the verb “elska”, to love, with a definite article, whereas “ástin” is the actual noun “love”.) “Ljúfan mín” sounds okay but I don’t think it’s common. For the masculine you’d want “ljúfurinn minn” if you were going to do this, but that’s unwieldy and you never hear that.

Personally I come from a family where we just go all out with unusual terms of endearment, though. I like to give my husband’s name a definite article ending (not usually ever done for proper nouns), or turn his name into a superlative adjective, but I don’t think most people do that, probably. You don’t even want to know what I’ve called my cats.
