You were born reaching for your mother's hands. Victim of your father's plans to rule the world.
These two phrases scream Jonathan Morgenstern. I will never forgive CC for not letting us see who Jonathan really was without demon blood in his veins, I wish Clary had saved him and he was still alive.
I wonder what TWP would be like if Jonathan was still alive. Imagine the difficulties he would have had to overcome, knowing who he had been with demon blood and maybe, at the moment when he was overcoming the memories of who he had been, he would have found catapulted to Thule where Sebastian is still alive and had to face everything again.
Seriously, I will never forgive CC for not giving us Clary and Jonathan together as brothers.

what if after aaron's trial in the summer the foxes go on another cabin trip thing. the beach or somewhere. like they go spend a week out in nowhere, just them, and nobody explicitly says it's for aaron but they don't miss the way he breathes a little bit easier either, how he starts to walk with a little more momentum, and he starts to steadily fall into the rhythm of having friends, family. they find out his favourite colour (light blue/teal), his favourite food (something nicky always makes), how he knows the bouncers at eden's. he sleeps easier. half smiles become less rare. the tension in his shoulders starts to dissipate.
it's going to take time and it's going to be hard but aaron deserves to heal.

Valentine, out of love for his father, ruined his life and many others, wanting revenge for the death of his father, the death of his parents literally drove him crazy.
Jonathan-Sebastian… I think deep down in his "soul" he breathed a sigh of relief when his father died and he was freed from his control. Could he love Valentina - hardly. All he wanted to do was prove that he was the best.
Ash calls his father "the infernal father" and kills him without a drop of regret.
What we see… Degradation of family relations of the Morgenstern family.

My super unpopular take is that all the miscommunication is what makes TLH so good. It's essentially a display of what makes the characters tick, and the way that they resolve it all shows how they fit together and what the spaces between them represent.
At its core, TLH is a series about trauma.
James has been sexually abused for years, making him unable to communicate about his lack of free will and the lies that his life were made up of. Cordelia grew up in an abusive household and is just now learning that her life isn't what she believed it to be. This of course makes it hard for them to communicate since both of them were blindsided by this new knowledge that all of their past experiences were lies.
Matthew has PTSD from his perceived misdeed, his Great Sin that has made him believe he's a murderer for years; he loathes himself, makes self-destructive decisions, and refuses to communicate as a result of the self-punishment stemming from that. Part of this punishment and self-harm is throwing himself into James and Cordelia's relationship to break his own heart and pay penance. Matthew miscommunicates to HIMSELF that this is what love is and this is what he deserves.
Alastair's canonical cPTSD puts him in the position of a protector who must keep secrets that have left him feeling broken and unlovable. Thomas, who has loved him since childhood, cannot speak of it for fear of upsetting his close-knit friend group. Not to mention that in his grief he's extremely rash.
Only by talking can they make their situations better, can they fit the puzzle pieces of their lives together and heal. But they have to wait until they're ready, and seeing when and how that happens is both a massive character study and a study in trauma. The things trauma makes us do and makes us hide.
This is the point of TLH. This is literally the reason it works.

Sometimes I remember that spending his life with Thomas is one of the first freely-given, free-willed, unobstructed choices Alastair has ever made in his entire life and I just get... so emotional...

Friendly reminder that after Chain of Thorns there are many more Christmas balls yet to come. (As if Will Herondale would have it otherwise). Balls, where the TLH gang is truly happy and without any worries regarding saving the world or unrequited love. Thomas and Alastair will dance with little Zachary, James and Cordelia will dance the night away, only having eyes for each other and Anna and Matthew will talk about their travels (and their new waist coats oft course). And at the end of the evening the Merry Thieves and all their beloveds will return to Curzon Street where they spend the rest of their night chatting and laughing about the good old days as well as of their future plans.

Vaggie: You know what your problem is?
Alastor: Really hoping you’ll tell me.
Vaggie: You think you’re better than us. Truth is you’re just as messed up as the rest of us. We’re all you have. And you know it.
Alastor: I don’t think I’m better than you, my dear, I know I am.

I still can't believe the TLH gang pictured as the Good Ones™, who are always right (even when they are wrong), who always have the best intentions (even when they commit crimes), spend most of ChOT talking behind Grace's back and repeating she's a monster (comparing her to Belial), wanting to make her pay and don't acknowledge once what she went through despite the fact they all know (with the infamous "You had a choice").
Except Christopher. But then Christopher is killed so...
(The TLH gang also don't give two thoughts about Tatiana, who is behind everything, and don't resent her half as much as the kid who was under her care.)
