Yesterday, just before clocking out at work, I showed my coworker / friend a picture from my snapchat memories 2 years ago. It was a picture of me with sunlight on my cheeks, mascara on my lashes, & bright red hair color painted on my hair from the ears down. For anyone that knows me, it is EXTREMELY rare to see me without any sort of color in my hair 👀 This past year, I (maybe) dyed the lower half of my head once 😳 Why? I'm building a successful business. Managing someone else's business by day, growing my own by night. I tend to forget this. // When I showed her the picture I said "Look how pretty my hair was. It stinks seeing memories & thinking how much cuter you felt then." She rebutted with "...But when you look back on memories of today you're gonna say, 'look how hard I was working to get where I am today.' It was perfect ❤ 🌻 Somedays, you will feel beautiful (with your long, fairy hair) 🌻 Somedays, you will feel capable (with your big dreams & aligned action to build them) 🌻 Somedays, you'll feel worthy! I set out on Saturday to get a timer, one of those old vintage kitchen timers ⏰ Something I can use to keep me accountable to my time goals without having to fumble with my phone looking for the stopwatch app. Especially, since using an app reluctantly keeps me more dependent on my phone when trying to work on my blog.⁣ ⁣ The plan was 15 minutes doing uninterrupted work, then a 5 minutes break (3x) which means 45 minutes for every hour is spent getting things done 💪⁣ ⁣ 🚫 I had no such luck at Wal-Mart where they had a white plastic one with 3 buttons (minutes, seconds, and mode). It would get the job done but I didn't buy it.⁣ ⁣ 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘣𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘯. 𝘐 𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥.⁣ ⁣ I decided to mosey into the World Market while my sister and her sister-in-law looked in Buy Buy Baby. And guess what I found? A vintage kitchen timer in my FAVORITE COLOR (seafoam green) that was MAGNETIC 😳 // Side Note: It also came in Red & Copper (my 2nd fav) 🤎⁣ ⁣ 𝘚𝘰𝘰𝘰𝘰 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦, 𝘭𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 👏⁣ ⁣ It's the cutest tool on my desk now. Alongside the book @thelittlebookoflifehacks⁣ ⁣ This book has been on my "𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀" Pinterest board for a while now but when I picked it up at the store, this was the first page I flipped to:⁣ ⁣ 💭 9 Tips to Increase your Productivity for Getting Things Done⁣ ⁣ #1️⃣ Use a kitchen timer⁣ ⁣ It was a no brainer. Some housekeeping on myths around training your puppies 🧹⁣ ⁣ 💭 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘪𝘵 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘴𝘩𝘦'𝘴 _____ 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘮𝘺 𝘱𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘺?⁣ ⁣ 🐾 She's older?⁣ 🐾 She's fully vaccinated?⁣ 🐾 She loses all her puppy teeth?⁣ ⁣ 𝗡𝗢𝗣𝗘⁣ ⁣ In fact, between 12-16 weeks old is prime time for puppy training (That's only 1 MONTH after your pup enters your home)⁣ ⁣ 💭 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘺 𝘱𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘺 (& 𝘐) 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘧𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥? I had a beautiful and thorough (I maxed out the allowed characters for Insta 🙊) self-care routine that I wrote out for the 20 people who requested it in regards to "𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘐 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢 𝘩𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘬." I was set to post yesterday in the morning and Instagram said "Nah, Brah" 🙃⁣ ⁣ 😭 I was plagued with a "𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗲𝘁, 𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿" for the last 36 hours before finally hitting the dreaded "discard post."⁣ ⁣ I didn't save my post to a note on my phone or a Google Doc, so 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘦𝘦𝘦𝘦𝘦𝘦 💨 ⁣ And I can't imagine spending any time today after a 12 hour shift or dinner with the guys trying to replicate it... because honestly, this self-care post would be bad for my self care after this week 🤪⁣ ⁣ SO here is a picture of the luxurious lavender-flower filled bath bomb bath I had this Sunday 💜⁣ ⁣ Don't waste energy on stress and regret, learn from your mistake, and flow with it 🌿⁣ ⁣ It's WEDNESDAY!! A few examples of canine body language: ⁣ 1️⃣ 𝗟𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸⁣ ➡️ This is a very common type of play (especially for larger or high-energy dogs). They do this in an effort to show smaller or lower-energy dogs that I just want you to play with me no matter your size or attitude.⁣ What they're thinking: "𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘦, 𝘐'𝘭𝘭 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥"⁣ ⁣ 2️⃣ 𝗕𝗼𝘄⁣ ➡️ Also known as the "𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘺 𝘉𝘰𝘸," this is usually how excited dogs initiate play with a slightly less playful dog. They are trying to entice the other player with quick movements hoping they'll hop right into play with them.⁣ What they're thinking: "𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺"⁣ ⁣ 3️⃣ 𝗪𝗮𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗮𝗶𝗹⁣ ➡️ The most universally known body language. Surprisingly, a waging tail does not always signify "happiness" but you can usually tell when it's paired with a toothy grin and jumps for joy that they are just happy as pie. Okay, time to share a win // My dog-based biz made HOW MUCH??? 🤯 I've never written down how much I made in a month from strictly my side business... EVER 🐾 ⁣ ⁣ I always had the income from managing a doggie daycare, doing snow removal seasonally, and working on my farm that it didn't neccesarily matter how much it made when I started in 2014. It was just fun money.⁣ ⁣ 💥 Then Covid-19 hit. ⁣ ⁣ My job shut down for 2 and a half months and I was interested to see how my dog sitting business would fair through uncertain times. ⁣ ⁣ ... I received 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 after 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 after 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.⁣ ⁣ People weren't going on vacations. If they can't board planes or visit out-of-state family, they don't need my sleepover and stop-in services but... 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘶𝘺 𝘱𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘦𝘴 🐕 ⁣ ⁣ My business pivoted from mostly pet care in the absence of owners, to mostly training in the presence of a quarentined family.⁣ ⁣ July 2020 looked like this:⁣ ⁣ 🐾 13 one-hour visits⁣ 🐾 5 puppy training lessons⁣ 🐾 3 puppy training sleepovers⁣ 🐾 1 sleepover in my home⁣ 🐾 5 night sleepover in client's home⁣ ⁣ I did the math to find out 𝗜 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 $𝟭,𝟳𝟲𝟬 𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲 (and this was with $1,000+ worth of cancellations due to cornona virus) 🙉⁣ ⁣ I am so unbelievably thankful for a business that pivots with its surrounding circumstance 🙌⁣ ⁣ ➡️ Tell me - 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘢 "𝘸𝘪𝘯" 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺? 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢 𝘵𝘰𝘱𝘴𝘺-𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘷𝘺 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨: I went to Peace Valley Park with my sister & my lovely #BlueHeeler / #MiniAussie mix 💙 Stitch said hi to 2 dogs, took a belly-high dip in the lake, & "heeled" perfectly the whole 2.5 miles w/ help from her @sprenger_dogsports collar (my favorite training tool for heeling) 🐕 ⁣ On our path back, we ran into a woman who had a dog with similar features to Stitch. We stopped to mingle (6 ft apart, of course), our dogs liked each other, and being that they both have beautiful C-hook, flowy tails it was such a sight to watch those beauties wag in unison 😍⁣ ⁣ She learned of my dog sitting business and just before walking in opposing directions asked if I had a business card on me. In January 2020, I FINALLY started my blog, HandfulOfHeather.com 🌾 I started merely brainstorming on Jan. 25, 2020 and by Jan. 31, 2020, I picked (& bought) my domain (mama wasn't playing around 🥰) By late February I was manifesting: 🌙 More time 🌙 Less distractions I contemplated quitting my job. My blog was needing some start-up TLC and I had a dog sitting business that has been growing consistently since 2014 and could fully support my frugal lifestyle with. I felt fully "set" to make that decision. But then some dog sittings cancelled and then some more cancelled and then they ALL cancelled. I lost $3,000 of expected income in one month. On March 19th, 2020, a stay-at-home order was put into effect to protect the spread of COVID-19. When I compared my mid-February manifestations to my mid-March reality, it all became clear. My dog sitting clients cancelled to give me less distractions (✅) and the doggie daycare I manage remained closed until further notice to give me more time (✅) What a hidden blessing in all the chaos 💕 I spend my quarentine buying courses, building my blog from the group up (all by myself 💪), and went live by April 2020. I used the next 2 months of quarentine polishing up the details, making my beloved FREE intention guide for anyone that subscribes to my blog (link in bio 📍), as well as putting out blog posts.
