Today's meme is thanks to @cosmicphoen1x post (https://linkcuts.com/37yzmnso) about Kavik thinking how pretty Yangchen is (...deep gray eyes stood out like artwork...) PD: Editing GIFs is obviously not my thing, jaja. But I'm running out of meme ideas, so maybe I'll get better at this and be able to share GIFs too. 🤷‍♀️ (Any tips for improving are very welcome) <3

One of the coolest parts about being a fan of fanfic is you can actually contact the author. And they will respond. And then you can message them nonstop until they allow you into their lives and then you’re becoming their beta reader and suddenly you know multiple authors of all types of fiction books and fanfic authors who will drag out their deleted fics for you to read at a moments notice.
Anyway. Comment on fics and message authors. It’s absolutely worth it.

33/? His shoulder, instead of landing on brick, met empty air. The alley had a door alcove, deep enough to hide an ambush. The person who’d been waiting in the recession sank his knife into Kavik’s exposed flank.
Huh, he thought. Felt like getting punched. A warm trickle ran down his side, the flow of blood almost embarrassing. The most private, intimate part of him was leaking everywhere.
“I told you exactly what I would do if I caught you betraying the Avatar,” Jujinta muttered into his ear. The note of satisfaction in his voice was unmistakable. A man of his word. He extracted his blade from Kavik’s body and walked away into the light.

Thinking about how cannonically, Kavik finds Yangchen beautiful.
Tumblr media
"They hoisted him to his feet while he was still in a daze. He heard footsteps coming down the stairs. A swishing hem, a clatter of beads. Once his vision unblurred, the Avatar stood before him in her full regalia. A bloom of yellow and orange, dappled with wooden medallions. She was startlingly pretty. Against the frosted basement walls, her serene features and deep gray eyes stood out like artwork.
He caught himself and quickly banished the thought from his head. This was the Avatar"

When the trope is the airnomad avatar and their waterbender companion who they met unexpectedly in a place coverd of ice and to which they technically show the world to because the waterbender has been confined in one single place due to polítical reasons and this companion also learns healing during their journey which helps them heal the avatar using water from the spirt oasis, and they end up being the people that understand eachother the best and the closest “companion” to the avatar.
You will never guess who I am talking about.

32/? Over the knot in his stomach he gave her the full story, down to the bones. During the chaos of the rockslide, Henshe had been crossed off, likely by Kavik’s brother, Kalyaan. Kalyaan had bribed a group of villagers to serve as a distraction and escaped out the window down the mountainside. He was a skilled enough climber and Waterbender to have pulled off the daring escape. An honest testimony from someone who knew the man well.
Yangchen was silent for a while. Kavik kept a close eye on the water to make sure she didn’t squeeze the remaining life out of their patient by accident, but his worries were unfounded. The Avatar remained completely calm. “Sounds like I should have hired him instead of you.”
Kavik swallowed the lump in his throat

31/? Spoiler alert: nothing happened :'c 😂
As soon as they were inside, they dropped their smiles and separated all the way to different corners of the room. Yangchen firebent flame into the lamps and looked around. There was an enclosed, three-sided bed, carved with lattices as fine as the lace of a noblewoman’s dress. A lotus-shaped censer hanging from the ceiling spilled sweet fragrance over the furnishings, and the dressing table held an array of combs. She snorted when she realized it—they’d put her in a wedding suite.

Avatar Yangchen's Favorite Foods
My winter break boredom combined with my chronic writing procrastination have combined to form Yangchen Thoughts at never before seen levels.
AKA, I was doing a bit of research into potential Air Nomad cuisine and suddenly found myself needing to know what Yangchen's favorite foods would be. So here we are.
Most of the foods listed will be primarily of Tibetan origin, considering that is the main cultural inspiration for the Air Nomads. However, because Yangchen spent a large portion of her life in different Earth Kingdom cities, there will be some dishes taken from other cultures as well. I will be providing links to as many recipes as possible! (Note: some of the recipes themselves are not vegetarian, but could easily be modified so to fit with the Air Nomads' vegetarian lifestyles).
Now, when it comes to food, Avatar Yangchen strikes me as someone who prioritizes function over flavor. Obviously she prefers her food to taste good, but she's more concerned with what said food can do for her, convenience-wise. She prefers foods that can be eaten on the go, snacked on while working, or downed relatively quickly. As well, she wants her food to be on the filling side, which lessens the amount of time she has to spend eating. She's quite pragmatic about her food. (Is this a good thing? I suppose that's up to you to decide). Finally, her cooking skills are pretty minimal, so most of her favorite dishes are quite simple to make.
Most of this post will be under a cut because, as per usual, I can never make anything short :)
Butter Tea
Tumblr media
This is a very traditional Tibetan drink, and it's one that Yangchen would have grown up drinking. It's actually mentioned in The Dawn of Yangchen! It's a drink she would find very comforting, as well as filling due to it being nearly half butter.
Breakfasts
Tomato Egg Soup
Tumblr media
It's quite literally what it sounds like. This is a breakfast dish, probably very common in the Earth Kingdom and/or Fire Nation. It's simple to make, but hearty and warm.
Shom-Dae - Rice Pudding
Tumblr media
This is a rice pudding made with yogurt. It can be eaten with fruit as a filling breakfast, or sweetened to be made into a dessert. Yangchen doesn't have much of a sweet tooth, so she prefers this for her breakfast.
Snacks
Bhobi
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is basically a Tibetan burrito. A soft, thin flatbread wrapped around various fillings. Typically these can have anywhere from 3-5 different fillings, consisting of things such as stir-fried vegetables, noodles, eggs, you name it. Yangchen would absolutely be a fan of the versitility, and would likely make these to use up leftovers for a tasty snack.
Shogo Khatsa - Spicy Potatoes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As the name implies, this dish is made up of spicy potatoes. I think Yangchen would actually be a huge fan of spice, and as such would totally love these. She would probably also dip them in Sepen, which is a Tibetan tomato-based chili sauce.
Various Street Foods
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yangchen would love trying local street foods at all the places she visits, but she has a few favorites. Fried tofu, spring rolls, and spicy cucumbers. They're all very easy on the go snacks.
Onion Tingmo
Tumblr media
This snack is definitely more of a comfort food. These are a type of steamed bun with green onions folded in, and I think these would be Yangchen’s guilty pleasure; the kind of food she could eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Meals
Tenchung - Lentil Soup
Tumblr media
The Air Nomads would certainly be fans of lentils, considering their high protein and iron content. This is another very simple soup, but would be very comforting and nostalgic for Yangchen - as well as quite filling.
Mokthuk - Momo Soup
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Momos are Tibetan dumplings, which Yangchen would enjoy eating on their own, but when added to a hearty soup the dish is called Mokthuk. As you're probably starting to figure out, I think Yangchen is a pretty big soup fan. Just like in the attached video, Yangchen would load her soup up with chili oil for added spice.
Pishi - Tibetan Dumpling Soup (also known as "Lemur-Face Soup")
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This soup is extremely similar to Mokthuk, but the dumplings are made in a different way and more resemble wontons. This dish is often colloquially referred to as "Lemur-Face Soup" by Air Nomad children, as the folded dumplings resemble the faces of flying lemurs. Because the dumplings for this soup require a bit of extra effort, it would have been a rare treat growing up. Yangchen loves it both for the flavor and the fond memories it brings.
Desserts
Tenshi-Bhakthuk
Tumblr media
This is a fried pastry covered in a sugar syrup that is typically served at New Year's celebrations. They are small, crunchy little snacks that Yangchen would love eating each year at the celebration.
Bulug
Tumblr media
The best way I can describe this is that it's a Tibetan funnel cake. This is also served at New Year's celebrations. When Yangchen was younger, she and her sister Jetsun would always get one of these to split. It's a bittersweet memory now, but she still absolutely loves the food.
----
And there we have it! A whole selection of foods I think Yangchen would enjoy. Feel free to use this in fics, art, headcanons, whatever, and your own as you see fit!
Due to all this research I've done, I also have lots of ideas for foods that could be added to the Air Nomad cuisine as a whole - who knows, maybe that will become a separate post of its own!
Pretty much all recipes came from Palden's Kitchen ; would absolutely recommend checking his channel out! His videos are very high quality and his voice is incredibly soothing, honestly I want this man as my grandfather now.
Finally, I also need to give a shoutout to @atlaculture for providing inspiration and resources for my Tibetan food deep dive!

♡💘💜 for Yangvik, please :)
Yangvik!!
♡: who is the bigger romantic openly? secretly?
In a way, it comes down to their love languages and how they express them. For Yangvik it’s physical touch and acts of service for them both. Yangchen has the one-up on Kavik in her flirtatious wit that throws him when they are in public. It gives her devious joy to see him melt in such a way. With that Yangchen ekes out the win in being more romantic openly, but behind closed doors, Kavik gets it as it is the degree of intimacy with his touches and affection that’s disarming.
💘: who developed a crush on the other first?
Developing a crush timelines is a bit tricky for them with Kavik essentially being played/cornered into being with Yangchen for her journey. Their initial dynamic started off with effortless flirtatious energy mostly on Yangchen’s end directed at Kavik.
She enjoys getting him flustered but it didn't easily register in her mind that dynamic may be based in something beyond platonic attraction.
Kavik doesn’t necessarily consider much of himself in his attractiveness. Color him surprised receiving such attention from Yangchen and it opens his mind to that possibility.
While Kavik is able to better tap into his emotional side recognizing budding feelings as a crush (he did have previous romantic experience, so there was that), Yangchen reignited that spark in him while not fully aware of her flirtatiousness with him
💜: who said “i love you” first? or, if neither has said it yet, who is more likely to say it first?
They are idiots that’ll dance around the three words forever, infuriating everyone in their vicinity. “Stay with me,” “be with me,” and similar phrases are what they primarily leaned on in the beginning. It was safe and didn’t completely open the can of worms that may come with acknowledging romantic attraction.
The gestures Yangvik makes all elude to deeper feelings of love, but there's still a lot of work they need to unpack both on their own and as a couple first. It’s also a bit I guess one could say unconventional since I don’t see them ever having defined labels for their relationship status.
When would it be “appropriate” to tell the other they love them? How would they receive the word love? It’s something so powerful as it may mean something surface level or far deeper. When they (finally) get to that point, it’s Kavik who says he loves Yangchen first.
How fun as Yangchen is usually the one who takes flirtatious initiatives/teasing at Kavik’s expense. When he is able to throw that energy back at her, it’s something special that gets her all flustered.

Kissing prompts Yangvik 35 please!
(kiss to gain something)
---
Kavik knows, logically, that this was part of the plan - Yangchen sent him to distract Lady Kaori while she snoops for any clues that the shangs are conspiring together to avoid her reforms.
"The way she stared at you, you're truly the perfect person for the job," she winked and left him to blush up to his ears.
Kavik can't honestly say that Kaori makes for an intriguing conversation partner - all she cares about is planning the next big event, along with new robes for the occasion while somehow making sure the expenses will be covered through whatever means possible.
"Master Kavik, I heard of your extraordinary sparrowbones prowess," she leans to him, making his nose wrinkle with the overly sweet smell of expensive powder. "You simply must teach me to play."
He releases the uncomfortably tight collar on his shirt.
"I'm afraid there's no time to do that. As the Avatar's companion, I have a lot to take care of."
Her pink lips curl in a sneer. "Of course. We all heard about the Avatar's… zeal. She does have a lot to live up to," she scrunches her nose. "Still I fail to see how robbing the more… resourceful people of their means of living will accomplish that."
Kavik clenches his fist. "I see why you wouldn't," he manages to make it sound enough like a neutral remark; it costs all of his self-control.
She turns to him with a grin like a freshly sharpened knife. "I can assure you that whatever the Avatar is paying you, I can offer you much more."
Kavik's breath stutters. "What?"
"I need an accountant to manage my finances. And the fact that you're very… easy on the eyes," her lip quirks upwards as she subtly lowers her eyelashes, looking him up and down, "is just an added factor to my desire to have you working for me."
Anytime Yangchen implied something of that sort, Kavik struggled to maintain his expression. This woman only makes him annoyed.
"I don't think that-"
She presses into his personal space suddenly. Kavik curses his inattention - Kaori led him away from the main crowd, into a secluded corner, and is currently crowding him against the wall, her intention obvious.
In a desperate attempt, Kavik searches his surroundings - a waiter passing with tall glasses of expensive drinks is all he needs. The liquid spills into a fine layer under Kaori's feet; the moment he freezes it, she immediately loses balance.
She got close enough that her lip brushed against his cheek when she stumbled; his nose is stuffed full of her heavy fragrance.
He does his best to walk and not sprint away. Yangchen will probably still need more time, but this wasn't in the job description.
As if the Spirits finally took mercy upon him, Yangchen slowly enters the room, looking as composed as ever.
He releases a sigh of relief.
He keeps his neutral face on as he approaches her - Yangchen quirks her eyebrow, noting that something is off.
He can't tell her, not when they still have to mingle.
When Kaori is seen again, her hair is slightly less neat than before. When she greets the Avatar, she doesn't bow but merely nod, glaring absolute daggers at Yangchen.
She only smiles politely, her eyes cold steel.
Her hand grasps his own to tug him to the door - then, before they escape completely, she tilts her head up so that her lips brush his cheek. Blood rushes into his face so quickly that he thinks his head might explode.
When they're out of sight, Kavik demands an explanation.
"What was that?"
She sighs. "I apologize. Of course I suspected that she might attempt to seduce you, but I never thought she'd be so bold to try that in front of so many."
Kavik swallows, feeling blood rise to his cheeks again. "How did you-"
"She was staring at you like she wanted to take a bite out of you," she fills in immediately.
"Well. She might have tried," he grumbles. Still the sick scent hangs in his nostrils.
"I know. Her lip paint was on your cheek."
He rushes to explain. "Yangchen, I didn't want her to."
She exhales. "I know you didn't. That's why I'm apologizing. It's one thing to decide that I would do anything to get things done, but I never want to force you into that position."
While he appreciates the sentiment, there's one more thing to answer. "But why did you..." he trails off and points to his cheek.
Her lips soften; her gaze flickers to the side before returning to his. "I just wanted to make sure she wouldn't try again."
She's standing closer than strictly necessary; her faint, fresh scent full of something energizing fills his nose. Kavik inhales deeper.
"Thanks," he smiles. Kavik doesn't examine her reasons for that, but as far as he's concerned, he's glad that the message will be loud and unmistakable.
Not that there's any message to get. He's aware of the rumors, but it's all they are - rumors.
Yangchen nods, a barely noticeable pink tint to her cheeks. "Let's return now. Also," she leans into his space again, the next words spoken directly into his ear, the skin of her lips brushing his with every syllable, "you should appear flustered now."
That really won't be a problem to achieve.

Note
let’s go with yangvik and 21 for the kiss prompts :)
(interested to see where you think one of them might have some kind of insecurity!)
The recent sunny weather prompted them to make good use of their rare day off and take a short trip to nearby mountains. Yangchen misses the feeling of open air around her, much harder to come by since her beloved animal companion passed.
She's also been craving some quality time with Kavik - their moments are scarce, pushed hastily between meetings, accounting and everything else that requires their attention.
Not that Yangchen is complaining. But Kavik always does so much for her; she wants to repay him in kind. Just for once, they can spend a nice day out like people who care about each other do.
She arranged everything, though asked Yingsu and Tayagum with help when it comes to cooking.
By the way Kavik's lips curl in satisfaction as he settles down in grass, Yangchen has been fairly successful in her mission.
The view is spread out in bright, sunlit detail in front of them - villages, cities, making Yangchen all too aware how small she is compared to the world below, yet still expected to guide it to balance, so that people live well and happy.
As much as that idea is daunting, it's not as miserable as it once were - the person currently extending his arm towards her to invite him to lie on his chest is a large part of the reason why.
Yangchen happily settles her head on his chest, careful not to lean too hard on his full stomach.
"Beautiful, right?" she notes - the day could hardly get any more perfect, clear, cloudless sky generously bathed by sun's caring, nurturing warmth.
His eyes open just enough to give her a gaze soft with affection.
"Certainly."
She giggles and sticks her tongue out at him.
"That's way too cheesy."
"Still true," he smiles again and pulls her closer. Yangchen is only too happy to nuzzle into his chest, nose brushing his jawline.
Perhaps it's the fact that most of her thorough exploration of his unfairly beautiful face happens in the dim light of their night lamp, with her lips, that she never noticed the faint silvery mark on the right side of his chin.
"How did you get this one?" she's curious.
Kavik blinks in confusion. "What?"
"You have a scar here. I never noticed."
"Ah, that one," his mouth corners freeze. "That's hard to say, really. Over time, I accumulated enough punches in fights that it all sort of blends together."
Yangchen hums and leans to press her lips to the spot - now she feels it, an unmistakable bump of a healed bone, probably helped along with inexpertly performed healing.
Kavik's body has gotten tense under her.
"This one broke your jaw," she says, not accusative nor pressing, simply noting a fact.
Kavik nods. "It might have, yes."
She tries to meet his eyes and hopes that her gaze is tender enough to transfer the message - she won't push on what is obviously a sore spot, but she's ready to listen in the same way he always does.
Kavik's eyes glisten.
"It was one of the earliest days in Bin-Er. A guy about three times my weight attempted to rob someone. We were just passing by."
Yangchen holds in her breath. The way he says 'we' makes it obvious who else was there.
"I couldn't stand by and watch, and thought that my wrestling experience might be enough."
Yangchen wonders what else happened. Did Kalyaan attempt to stop him? Did Kavik for once wanted to be the admirable brother able to repay his debt?
He shudders. "I avoided two hits, but not the third. I still remember the crunch. It was sickening."
Her stomach cools down and she observes him carefully - his slightly furrowed brow, dimmed eyes, lips pursed in that mix of sad and angry that appears on his face everytime Kalyaan's name comes up.
"They were both gone. Kalyaan then tried to ask around for a healer. He berated me for not being faster, for not thinking smart about it. Was I not busy playing the hero, nothing would ever happen," he imitates the subtly sleazy way his older brother talks as perfectly as he copies his signature grin.
Yangchen's gut burns with anger.
"What would he do, then?" she scoffs.
Kavik doesn't respond. The weather around them didn't change, yet still the day seems dimmer without his radiance.
"I already owed him my life; now another humiliating moment was added to the roster," he sighs, and she can picture him so well - hiding his tears of both pain and frustration as he not only failed to impress his brother, but also sustained an injury and another reason to feel like he owed him, like he might never measure up.
How blatantly false it all was. How could Kavik be made unaware of the true worth of his nature?
"I learned to mind my business, no matter what. As long as my skin wasn't on the line, it just wasn't worth it."
She stares at the face she knows so well and still is finding out more - how many subtle, cruel moments it took to break a determined, brave boy into someone trying not to see the misery around him; but despite that, Kavik's truth rose again to be seen exactly as it was - warm, brave, and so, so eager to do good.
She presses one more kiss to the skin, lingering with her lips.
"An unsuccessful attempt to do good is more valuable than avoidance of doing bad," she paraphrases an old Air Nomad saying.
His eyes finally break out of the haze of a bad memory. She knows there's still a lot he didn't say, tied to his brother, the source of so much insecurity and doubt, and despite everything that transpired... love, living on.
"What you said just proves to me that I was right about you," she smiles and pecks his nose.
"What about?" he asks in an attempt to be light-hearted, but softer, smaller than his usual teasing.
Her next kiss lands on his lips.
"You're so good, Kavik; and so much more than you even know," she answers, brushing her fingers against his cheek, holding his gaze with her own.
At first it seems like he can't bear the directness of her sincerity, but slowly, as if venturing out of hiding, his soul, woven of gold and rays of sun, adds new shine to his blue eyes. His expression melts into pure affection; her heart nearly jumps to her throat.
The weather around them stays the same, yet looking at him, soul meeting soul, Yangchen feels warmed so thoroughly it might sustain her even in darkest polar nights.
