Been noticing a lot of worrying posts lately,

Particularly among the newer witchblrs, so I feel as though I should say something:

⚠️ PLEASE DO NOT INGEST/CONSUME/SMOKE ANYTHING UNLESS YOU HAVE DONE EXTENSIVE RESEARCH ⚠️

And research that is preferably done off of Tumblr (aka Google it), so you’ll find a wider range of opinions, articles, and thoughts on the matter.

For example:

Certain stones and crystals are toxic when mixed with water/liquids! Big ones include malachite, turquoise, and selenite - but that’s just to name a few!

Various herbs can interact negatively with medications/the body: St. John’s Wort with birth control or anti depressants (even though it is used to treat depression in small doses), sleepy time herbs are not to be used in conjunction with melatonin or other sleep aids/pills; some herbs can cause liver damage - pennyroyal, valerian, comfrey, etc - if consumed.

DO NOT JUST SMOKE THINGS because a tumblr said to try it!!! I just saw a post about smoking valerian root - THIS WILL CAUSE A CHEMICAL BURN IN YOUR THROAT AND LUNGS. ⚠️

So for the love of gods, and all things decent - including your health - PLEASE do legitimate research before ingesting any herbs or concoctions. 🌿

Cat-Proof Shrines

So, fellow cat owners, you have a problem. And that problem is that your cats won’t stop utterly destroying your carefully-curated shrines. Well, I can’t offer a magical cure-all, but here’s a little tip my boyfriend @foxesandflames figured out for his Loki shrine, and I’ve since adopted for the house spirits:

Get a crate. I got mine for $10 at Walmart, but you can check out your local craft store, or probably even the local dollar store if you’re not opposed to plastic crates. Heck, you could probably use a cardboard box. We use wooden crates because they’re a little heavier, reducing the risk that our cats will just push the entire thing over.

Ever since we set our house spirit shrine up in a crate, the most the cats do is sit next to it and poke their little heads in to drink out of the offering water (protip: if you have pets, DO NOT leave out offerings that are unsafe for said pets to consume–just don’t). They’ve yet to knock anything over. They’ve left my boyfriend’s Loki shrine alone entirely. 

I also recommend using plastic or otherwise hard-to-break dishes for offerings, and using statues or other entity representations that you wouldn’t be devastated to lose. I also don’t recommend burning candles or incense inside one of these–candle flames especially need a few feet of clearance so you don’t scorch whatever’s above them.

But if you need a simple fix to help discourage cats from climbing all over your shrines, get yourself a crate. Works wonders. You can even decorate the crate.

Pawfficer Donut Sworn-In As The New Troy Police Department’s Cat

Meet Pawfficer Donut, the newest member of the Troy Police Department.  Troy Judges Kirsten Nielsen Hartig and Maureen McGinnis swore-in Pawfficer Donut on Friday, May 11, 2018. She was adopted from the Michigan Humane Society in Westland.

Acorn moon candles

• Harvested acorn shells • Wax bits from old candles • Old incense stick bottoms • Lavander flower (optional)

》 Melt the wax (wax burner or old tin can and an old pot full of water on the stove works well for this), pour into shells, stick the wicks in and blow softly for a few seconds… wax will harden and the candle is done! Repeat for as many as you’d like to make!

☆ These candles are wonderful for small or short spells AND they float on water which makes them extra fun! Enjoy! ☆
