#8 Science fair

Preparing for the science fair was really a hard time. My partner and I met on Saturday for an experiment and decorating the science fair board. We spent the whole day doing it but eventually we were not able to finish all of them. Our topic is about what device could pop the popcorn the fastest. For the experiment, we used a hair straightener, pot, and microwave. Unfortunately, both of us were the first to pop the popcorn by ourselves. Therefore, we had to redo the experiment almost 3 times. When we just finished the experiment, it was almost 8 o’clock and we didn’t even start decorating the board. Even though I had another schedule on Sunday, I had to cancel it. We met again today and started working on the board. We printed the pictures and bought various kinds of color papers and color pencils and we thought it would be easy to finish. However, printing things made us spend more time. At first, we had to redo the print because of the mistake on double-sided paper. Next, we did it again because the words were too small compared to the enormous board. When we finally finished printing, the cafes were closing and we were extremely tired. Since this assignment was due tomorrow, we had no choice but to finish it. When it was 9 o’clock we finally finished it and went home right away. It took a long time, but as we really worked hard, both of us were satisfied with this board.��

#7 Instagram pictures are important

Today I went to Gyeongbokgung with my friends. Actually going to Gyeonbokgung was not in my schedule, I just tried to rest on my bed and relax. However, my friend suddenly called me and took me to her house. After playing some video games and watching TV, she said she wants some new things to play. Then, she suggested going to Gyeongbokgung. As one of my bucket lists was going to Gyeongbokgung and wearing Hanbok, we quickly reserved the Hanbok store and started preparing because it takes a long time to prepare. The only reason for going to Gyeongbokgung is to upload good-looking pictures on instagram. Therefore, I had to prepare my good pictures to upload. After a few minutes we went to the bus station and finally reached Gyeongbokgung. The Hanbok that I borrowed was extremely beautiful. It was a pink dress which had silver flowers for decoration. We also tied our hair and included more decorations on our hair too. For almost 2 hours we just took pictures for each of us. While taking pictures I did not feel tired because I was really satisfied with my pictures. But when we returned our dress and reached our home, I was so tired that it was hard to walk. I barely went to my house and uploaded good-looking pictures on my instagram. I enjoyed this time a lot and I wanted to come here again.

#6 Serious problems about illegal trades.

Today I read an article about illegal trades in human parts. There are numerous people who are waiting for transplants. Fortunately, in 2002, doctors performed 24,900 lifesaving organ transplants. However, this is not just good news. Not everyone can accept donations. According to the article, waiters are about 10 times more likely than donors. Because of the organ shortage, over 6000 people died while waiting for organs. This is the reason why illegal black markets developed. Have you ever heard about kidney villages? This is a village which is used as an illegal black market.  As people who are on the waiting list are increasing steadily, people started to do illegal trades for their bodies. Furthermore, the name kidney appeared because so many of its residents had illegally sold one of their kidneys. Kidney village is a very poor village where most of the people were not able to earn money and have a rectal. Therefore, these people started selling their kidneys and earned money and it developed a lot. Most of the citizens who reside in kidney villages usually have one kidney. In my opinion, we should motivate people to be donors. If the donors do not appear, people will just go to illegal markets. Then It will disturb the social order. As a result we should start  thinking about what motivates people to become donors.

#5 Great time in Guam

This weekend I went to Guam with my family. The purpose of this trip was to maintain our green card, though it was extremely joyful and exciting. However, the long flight made me a bit tired. Also, as I had a cold, that time was even more painful than I thought. When we arrived in Guam, we were surprised at the hot weather compared to Korea. We quickly moved to the hotel and relaxed for a while. I was exhausted and distressed at the long process to get here. All of a sudden, my family took me to the swimming pool and also visited the sea. At first, I was annoyed. But after seeing the view, I was speechless at the wonderful ocean view. It had a sky blue and emerald color mixed in, also the long big trees seemed like a picture. We went there and swam for almost 2 hours. Then, we went to some delicious restaurants and bought many chocolates and chips. When I finished all the scheduled activities and arrived at the hotel, I was so tired that I fell asleep right away. Now that I think about it, it was sad that I couldn’t swim once more and take more various pictures. However, even though it was a short trip, I relaxed a lot and had a great time with my family. I wish to go once more and take more pictures.

People are really good at heart

"In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart."

I agree with this opinion. 

In Anne’s diary, people who had conflicts with others, apologized and felt bad about their immature actions. For example, Miep and Mr. Kraler is the best example who is really good at heart. They helped the people in the annex, sacrificing their life for them. They provided food and also told them what was happening outside. Even though they had no benefit in helping them, they did not stop supporting them. Furthermore, Mr. Van Daan had a lot of conflicts with other people in the annex such as Anne and Mrs. Frank. When Mr. Van Daan steals food at the annex, everyone was extremely mad about him. First, he rejected his action. However, at last, he recognized his fault that he was taking food from his child because of his selfishness. Therefore, he apologized to everyone about his selfish actions. Moreover, Anne is really good at heart too. One episode is Hanukkah. She made presents to everyone in the annex and celebrated them. Anne had numerous conflict with others, especially Van Danns and Mrs. Frank. However, she did not care about the conflict. She thought more about what they like, not about the conflicts. Also, Mrs. Frank is one example too. Even Anne was very mean to Mrs. Frank, she did not act the same as Anne. When Anne had a nightmare, Mrs. Frank tried to stay until she fell asleep even though she rejected it. When Mr. Van Daan stole the food, Mrs. Frank yelled and said strong words to him. Everyone was surprised at her because it was then first time Mrs. Frank yelling to someone. She could not understand Mr. Van Daan’s selfishness which was sacrificing children. We can know that Mrs. Frank cares a lot for children and tries to protect them. Therefore, most of the people in the annex are all really good at heart. 

Also, I can feel people are really good at heart by my friends. When I was in trouble working on my project, my friends assisted me a lot. They explained about the project again and also showed examples to me. 

I felt that actually people who caused the conflict will feel bad about the situation, not just the other person who had a conflict with them. In my opinion, the word apologize came out because all people have a warm heart beside their mind.

#4 Making the best decision

Today I read an article about assisting suicide in hospital. There was a doctor who showed his experiences about two patients. First patient, formerly a nurse, had an automobile accident. Her urine stopped and her heart developed dangerous rhythm disturbances. Therefore, she went into a coma. Her body and situation were so serious that even her family suggested the doctor let her go. However, the doctor did not give up. He rejected the family’s opinion and tried to maintain her life. Fortunately, she recovered. The second patient was an 85 year old lady who accidentally burned her hair while she was smoking. She had a deep burn on her head and also her face too. She was extremely suffering every time. When she complained about her pain, the doctor gave her plenty of medicines to help her. Unfortunately, it was not enough for her, the medicine actually weakened her body. Therefore, the doctor stopped injecting it and soon she died without pain. All doctors agonize about assisting suicide or just maintaining their life by machines. As their job is to help patients, they should make the best decision in quick time. In my opinion, both of them are not wrong decisions. Whatever the doctor decides, it will be a decision just for the patient.

#3 One of the most valuable things

Yesterday was my friend’s birthday. When I was in Korean school we were best friends. We relied on each other the most and always kept our secrets open. Therefore, when I decided to go to international school, we cried a lot, hugging each other. Both of us promised to meet often and keep in touch every day. Unfortunately, this promise did not last long. While her class changed and I was busy adjusting to my school, we were not able to pay attention to each other. Thus, we became no more best friends, I could see her news just on social media. One day, she invited  me to her birthday party. I was surprised but was actually excited and impressed. I thought it might be awkward, but after seeing her, it was just enjoyable and comfortable with her. We went to some delicious restaurants and took photos at the studio.. After her birthday party, I was very ashamed of myself. As I was bothered at contacting her, I just tried to focus on other things. In my opinion, the relationship with friends is one of the most valuable things in our life. We need to pay more attention to it.

#2 The story of sisters

Yesterday I read a story about one family. There was a girl named Anissa. Her family was happy until Anissa became 16. Unfortunately, She was diagnosed with leukemia which is a cancer. If she is not able to find a donor who fits with her, she would die within three to five years. Her mother was extremely pleased at saving Anissa’s life. She was asking around to find a solution. One day, her friend suggested having one more child as a joke. However, she thought this would be her last chance to save her daughter. In April 1990, her second child Ayala was born and Anissa could maintain her life by Ayala’s sacrifice. Many people argued with two different opinions. One said that Ayala is so poor, and the other said this was the best solution to save Anissa’s life. In my opinion, I might have the same opinion as Anissa’s mother. Every mother will do everything if their children are critically ill and I can understand the mother’s desperation. Also, Anissa’s mother also loved Ayala as much as her sister. Therefore, Ayala did not fall in despair after hearing the true story, she rather tried to console her mother. As a result, people should not blame their family if they don’t know the specific story. I rather want to encourage that family.

#1 Wonderful time in Lotte World

I went to Lotte World with my friends. The word Lotte World itself made me very thrilled and exhilarated. However, the process of going to Lotte World was never easy. Actually this was almost the third time we discussed going to Lotte World together. It was hard scheduling our time to meet up but after trying many times to set up a good time, we fortunately got a chance to go to Lotte World. Since it was wednesday we could easily go on many rides. Last time I could not go on many rides because of the crowded people and my fear. Though, this time I was able to go on more various rides with my friends. It was so exciting that we did not realize the time was passing. It seemed not much time had passed, but it was already getting dark. When I was young, I thought it was a big deal but now I feel like I have grown up.
