Regrann from @studioplants - ‼️NOT A SUCCULENT‼️ But BUTTERWORTS! Found at @terraathome in Milton! Yes, you’re seeing things right: those are fungus gnats on the leaves! ⠀ Don’t mistaken this for an echeveria. It’s actually a carnivorous plant. 👀 A lot of people refer to Pinguicula moranensis (“Butterwort”) as “live sticky traps”. I can see why! Suffice to say, I scooped one up during our visit and it will be living right by my seedlings, which are prone without fail, to have fungus gnats. I wish I couldn’t gotten a whole fleet of these but my wallet would’ve hated me. ⠀ Many people have recommended Butterworts because they’re supposed to be easy to grow, and more adapted to home conditions than some other carnivorous plants. So far, my favourite score of the growing season and one check off the plant wishlist! 🍃✨ - #regrann

So, here's some of the things you can plant this season for a thriving Winter garden - just make sure your soil is 👌🏼. It's not extensive but it will definitely get you started. Regrann from @studioplants - Checking them Roots! Here are my Heartleaf Philodendron cuttings: BEFORE and AFTER! According to my records (aka Instagram 👀), I started this in November and here we are now, with nice sets of roots growing slowly by surely. ⠀ This is about the time I would pot these up in soil. I’ve read the minimum length of root is 1/2 inch before you can pot them up - do you follow that rule? Or do you wait longer? Or maybe you root directly in soil? 🤔 ⠀ My original propagation post can be found under #FieldnotesbyStudioplants: a question I got asked often was why some people have success rooting in water rather than directly in soil (especially since soil is supposed to be “better”)? My answer would be: we’re often too busy or don’t have the set-up to allow direct soil rooting to be successful all the time. 🏃🏻‍♀️💭🕓🍃 ⠀ Meaning, we’ll forget to water the cuttings, or don’t have enough humidity to keep the soil consistently moist. For us who like to keep vials of cuttings out in the open, on display, it’s simply a low-maintenance way to passively propagate without a ton of effort. If I were to actually try to multiply my plants aggressively, I would root my cuttings directly in soil, in a mini greenhouse. Not something I do in the winter, but come “plant swap” season, I may break out that trusty Ikea greenhouse! 💨 - #regrann
