If you're on a mission to get someone into some media, I have opinions on this. None of these rules of thumb apply when you're just expressing excitement about something. Have fun first. But if you Actively Want To Convince Someone To Try It Out then

Don't say:

"It's really good!" -- at least, don't make that the extent of your pitch. What's good about it. Sticking a "it's really good" at the end of your pitch is fine, but if you open with it and don't elaborate, you've told me nothing

"It's a mix of (x media) and (y media)" -- if you really, really get this vibe, and you know that the person you're talking to knows both other media, then specify what elements you're referring to when you say this. It's got (x media)'s tone but (y media)'s sense of humor. Or whatever. But if it's only vaguely similar, just describe the aspects you're talking about without bringing other media into the conversation

"You should read/watch/play/etc it" -- implied by the fact you're pitching it

Do:

Identify why you like it. Forget about the other person for a second and talk about what drew you in with it. Give me heart !!

If there are media-specific terms, be brief with explaining them, IF you explain them at all. Using the closest approximate is fine. Saying "mage" instead of "aes sedai" is fine

Focus on the beginning of the media, the things that are good from the start. The best part could be the plot twist in part 5, but it takes a lot of work to get to that point

Tell me what it actually is. Genres aren't hard rules but they do exist to give you an idea quickly

Best Character Stuck in a Timeloop

Propaganda for Flowey:

We don't see his resets directly but we know he's done this potentially hundreds if not thousands of times, doing every possible thing he can and pretty much losing sight of who he was at the start. His loops are fully self inflicted and he could've stopped any time he wanted (and frisk DID eventually fall down and take the timeline from him!), but he still remembers their resets, too. Second, worse timeloop go

Not only does Flowey have timeloop trauma, that trauma makes him serve as a narrative foil to The Player Themselves. I know UT is overhyped but this is still the coolest thing ever to me.

dude experiencing a time loop but he's not the main character so sometimes he says things and the main character is like ???woah? and i think that's really fun.

Wanted to be silly and see the guy who he bought a company for, was instead forced to watch the guy he fell in love with (plus his friend) die over and over again and lose all of the good memories they had together <\3 (btw play detective beebo it’s free on itchio!)

( brief beebo spoilers in here-> ) Ángel is the only one that naturally remembers the loops (aside from the main antagonist). He has the energy of a wet cat. He's hopelessly in love with the protagonist and goes to drastic lengths to make sure he's safe. He wants to be a youtuber. He's into men. He says poggers and swag canonically in game to "connect with the kids" & is told to stop promptly after. He is thirty years old.
