i cant help but think about how the boat on the hill represents so much of dusik's character. how its placement has a wide view of the town, overlooking everything and everyone below, how he took care of it after his grandfather passed away, almost making it his mission to look after it and took the time and effort to put it up there in the first place, making it seemingly isolated from everyone else, how he doesnt have any plans of getting it back to sea again and how he never plans to leave and risk changing the course of his life i also rly want to note hyejin's side and perspective towards this. she took the time to go all the way up there just to meet with him and have a little chat and maybe just maybe know more about him and what hes been through, how she indirectly tells him that theres so much more out there, so much more sea and ocean to sail
much to think about

episode 15... wow. what an episode. not to sound like a broken record but the writer outdid herself this time. this show was promoted as a healing drama but episode 15 solidified my initial hypothesis about how a better word to describe it would be cathartic.
every episode has an overall theme that's being explored (which is why i would have appreciated episode titles but... alas) and the theme of this one was very clearly grief over losing loved ones and learning to come to terms with it. there was a lot of emphasis on verbalising negative thoughts and letting out repressed emotions. hye jin encourages du shik to cry as much as he needs to when he's with her, she allows him to be completely and unapologetically himself without worrying about how that affects her. she promises to be the steady pillar he needs to lean on.
du shik writes down that he wants to be happy with hye jin in his bucket list. but the first step to happiness is to acknowledge your pains and shortcomings and everything that's holding you back. the next is to learn to forgive yourself. only then can you embrace happiness in it's entirety. it's not a linear path, but if it's broken down into small steps it suddenly becomes more manageable. achievable. du shik needs to climb this ladder himself. but having hye jin by his side, to hold his hand and remind him how far he's come when he's discouraged by how far he still needs to go, he'll make it to the top before he even realises it.
it wasn't comforting. it wasn't a feel-good episode. it made me cry buckets. but that was the point. to acknowledge that you're hurting. to externalise those feelings. to release the burden that's been weighing you down. to know that there's a long way to go, and yet through that struggle you somehow find yourself on the ladder to happiness. and the only way from here is up.

you know the scene where jeong wu holds du shik's grandpa's memorial service and du shik starts tearing up and pats his own head as if to console himself and hold himself together so he doesn't completely break down in front of him?
no one was there to pat his head for him. until hye jin comes along, listens to his story, and lets him completely break down in front of her, all the while softly patting his head and holding him close so he doesn't fall apart

Dushik-ie. Chief Hong, what are you doing here? Are you asleep? Oh! You opened your eyes. Why are you looking at me like that? Wait, I know that look. It means you want to cry.
