   Alfred would be lying if he said that he was a big supporter of the sons of Ragnar. They had demolished his home, and more importantly than that, they had killed the most important man in his life. They had killed King Ecbert, his grandfather. Bishop Heahmund had confirmed what they all knew would happen, when they left. But, he had meant it when he had told his father that they should offer them land, keep the peace.

    He knew that he should not be wandering close to where they’d taken over, but he was anyway and that was when he saw Hvitserk, he believed. But, his face was bruised and cut up and he wanted to know why.  He had explicity told Bishop Heahmund that they would not be handling it this way and if he went against his orders, he would be very irritated and go to his father.   

                    “What happened to your face? You didn’t look like that when we sent you all to await our decision.” 

                 TO SAY HE HATED THE CHRISTIAN MEN WOULD BE AN OVERSTATEMENT. but to say that he liked them would certainly be rather preposterous. hvitserk himself had always considered himself rather nuteral on ( those ) affairs, he avenged his father because that’s where the fighting would be strongest, chosen to stay rather than go with bjorn because he cared little for FAR OFF PLACES what he liked was raiding. BATTLE. both things that ubbe wanted to give up but both things that he had been forced to pretend to agree with as they’d tried to play peace with the saxons. and tried was certainly a difficult word. 

the boy’s voice ( or the tone of it ) reminded him vaguely of ivar. there was an unsettling misplaced confidence to it that didn’t quite blong, as if the GODS LAUGHED through them. the boy barely looked up as he saw the christian, he DIDN’T QUITE KNOW THE LANGUAGE WELL ENOUGH to be comfortable. but he had enough knowledge to understand what the other had said to him. “ GOÐI. ” and then the correction, “ priest. ” comes the correction though ( vaguely ) audible over the annoyed tone in his voice. he finds what the other said a joke. a LIE. he told ubbe not to trust the pagans.

IVAR

       “He pulled it out himself!” A flash of anger, and the urge to correct his brother once more. Ivar was only tired of people always twisting his words and his acts an the intentions behind them. He was tired of being misunderstood for whatever reason people had to pretend Ivar is the enemy now that Sigurd is dead. His brother must’ve seen it coming, though. His taunting would end up the wrong way one day, yet he did not stop. 

       “Go on, then! Go and kiss Ubbe’s arse.” I didn’t know you were my brother’s bitch, but it seems that the Gods have plenty of surprises in store for us now.

                                                                    ITS NOT AS IF HVITSERK CARES ONE WAY OR THE OTHER. if sigrud bled out himself or if ivar had quickened the process. ubbe had always bee soft on the younger, that much hvitserk was certain of, let ivar get away with too much without calling him out on the discord that the idiot caused. but hvitserk would admit he didn’t often pay enough attention to care about what any of his siblings did. at the end of the day however there was one thing that was certain and it was rather simple: IVAR HAD MURDERED SIGRUD. he didn’t need to know anything more or anything less, and while he knew ubbe would forgive ivar right away. hvitserk wasn’t ready to do so. he’d played with sigrud, helped him fight. losing any one of his brothers was going to leave him broken. in one way or another. 

                 that didn’t mean he LIKED the way that ivar was talking to him, he could tell he’d pissed off the younger, more volatile of the two. “ ubbe isn’t the reason i’m asking you to leave me alone for a few days ivar. some things, remarkably, are simply your fault. ”
