i think nonbinary folks need to be louder and meaner about inclusion. we should refuse every effort to confine us to a "third" gender. we need to speak up about misguided "women & nonbinary" groupings, because nonbinary is not Girl Lite™. in fact we need to take the whole idea of Girl Lite™ and smash it with a hammer and put it in an acid bath. dissolve that garbage. nonbinary is fat, it's femme, it's masc, it's both, it's neither, it's an infinitely diverse category, and the sooner we nuke this basic-ass milquetoast image of "thin young white afab person" (which, lbr, people also wrongly interpret those folks as 'pretty much just girls who want to be special for some reason lol') the freer and better off we will all be

i mean. i could write a whole paper about ‘andrew in drag’ as a song and how important it is to me. but like. i think what really gets me is how i once saw a cover of it done where the guys doing it clearly saw it as like a funny jokey love song. but like. that song is so deeply tragic and romantic to me, its so bittersweet.. but like on the surface. yeah. i guess. it’s a song about a straight dude falling in love with his straight friend while he’s in drag as a joke. and its on one of the magnetic field’s sillier albums. its preceeded by a dance track about abstaining from sex and followed by an upbeat electropop track about shooting your ex’s new girlfriend in the face and burying him in crystal meth. i get it. like the magnetic fields are very good at not taking themseleves seriously. but the like. emotion in andrew in drag, the hurt and the reluctance to do anything about it is so fucking cutting that like. from a trans or gnc perspective its so fucking refreshing to just hear genuine lust towards someone in drag, not a joke, not a performative feeling but a genuine deep lust and reluctance to divorce someone’s self from the performative side of their gender. It’s just. so fucking bittersweet. and like idk how to describe it without feeling a bit silly for taking it so much more seriously than the band that wrote it does. but like. man. does that song make me feel
