Just a 47 y/o guy blindsided by colorectal cancer. ready to fight with chemo, radiation and my secret weapon, humor. In the words of Og Mandino in The Greatest Salesman in the World, "I will smile and my digestion will improve; I will chuckle and my burdens will be lightened; I will laugh and my life will be lightened for this is the great secret of long life and now it is mine." Let's laugh together as I battle and beat cancer.

A surprise for my thoracic surgeon today. I’m celebrating him for the compassionate care and for the fact that I m now cancer free after the over 2 year cancer journey.
I celebrate but I remain mindful that cancer doesn’t rest. I’ll be seeing Dr. DeRosimo for the next 5 years to make sure there is no reoccurrence, and if there is we attack it early.

The results are in. My urethra has healed, fistula removed and gracilis flat for perineal reconstruction was a success. Dr. Lunan Ji of Baptist Urology has been by my side for the past 10 months. The Foley catheter is finally out. In a few months so will the suprapubic catheter.
Today I’m celebrating Dr. Ji by changing the way I spell Urology. Hat and t-shirt set says it all, U R O L O - Ji !

Walking again. Making major strides in my recovery. Cancer took a lot from me but little by little, one step at a time, we are getting back what we lost. Glory to God.

Another patch of missing hair. Another cycle of antibiotics done and disconnected from my port 5/20/22. Last Friday an abscess almost took my life. Today, I’m home resting, stronger and healthier. My surgical wound is healing, things are getting back to normal.
One victory at a time…

On April 4, 2022 I underwent major surgery. The goal was to remove “everything” given my family history of lynch syndrome. What was supposed to be a 4 hour surgery turned into a 9.5 hour surgery. My tumor had calcified onto my urethra causing a tear that needed repair. I spent 12 days in the hospital post op, was discharged and later ran back to the ER due to an abscess. Day 9 now in the hospital. While on my second stint I had an emergency that required the placement of a second catheter, super pubic. It’s been a hard, painful road to recovery, all this after beating cancer. I’m staying strong. I’m focusing on the big picture, that time will heal all wounds. I’m currently on an antibiotic regiment through May 20. As for the urethra injury, I’ll have both catheters on for another month, then I’ll be reevaluated to see if there is no leak.
I will heal. I will celebrate life. I am grateful to all of the doctors, nurses and staff at South Miami Hospital who work hard daily to get me back to health.
I’m especially grateful to the love of my life, Elba, who everyday takes care of me. Bathes me, cleans me, watches over me, and makes sure our collective vision is on health and positivity. One day at a time, one therapy session at a time, one infusion at a time I’ll be home and healthy soon.
