Digital Analytics and Optimization Mastery

   This class has taught me the last piece of what I’ve needed to become a strategic digital marketer. I have learned what it means to be concise and thorough with pertinent information within a business report. Business reports are something I had no idea about prior to this class. I find it amazing how much it is synonymous to doing an academic research paper with subtitles, a cover page, table of contents, and even an executive summary which is the same thing as an abstract. The purpose of the business report is to provide information to executive members of a company. Due to the lack of free time they have to review such items, it is imperative for them to be to the point but also filled with vital information that executive needs in regard to what an employee at the company is endeavoring to convey.  

   This class has also capitalized on my knowledge in regard to KPIs and how they work in line with SMART goals. The SMART goals are established and realistic goals that need to be met for a company to flourish. These goals are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and timely. The key performance indicators (KPIs) are used as testing methods to make sure the SMART goals are working. Without the KPIs, a company’s testing method could not be trusted because they would be looking at measures that don’t contribute to the bigger picture.

   In my professional life, right now I have a blog that is expanding my online presence. In creating the blog, whenever I see it’s not performing the way I want it to, I now have a better understanding as to why. I used to think it was because of the look or maybe the name, but the details about its performance goes deeper than that. I have to create a set of SMART goals and use KPIs to evaluate those goals and make sure they are working. With its relaunch coming soon, I will be able to see how it does initially and then apply SMART goals and KPIs to fix its weak areas.

Advanced Digital Marketing Strategies Mastery Journal Post

     Advanced Digital Marketing Strategies has helped me to become further well versed in what it takes to become a successful digital marketer. I have learned the importance of keywords and understanding the various personas of consumers. In order to market to a target audience correctly, I must be able to identify where they fall between the competitive, spontaneous, humanistic, and methodic categories. Understanding each persona is also crucial because it helps a business to understand what those consumers are looking for when they are visiting their website.

     I have also learned about sources such as www.alexa.comthat allow individuals to dig deeper into the demographics and psychographics of a website’s target audience. It even displays the keywords that bring individuals to that website. Alexa.com shows important information such as the number of visitors a particular site may have long with its bounce rate. Knowing the bounce rate is important as it allows a company to re-evaluate their website and see what it is that needs to happen to get site visitors to become converters. A bounce rate generally happens when someone visits a website and can’t find what they’re looking for in an efficient amount of time.  

     What stood out to me the most is learning about multivariate testing. It validates how much work goes into creating the perfect website to draw in audiences. Multivariate testing is a bit comprehensive, but gives information businesses, their website analysts, and marketers need in order to make the needed changes for greater customer attraction and satisfaction.

     Becoming well acquainted with the AIDAS model this month has allowed me to take a second look at my personal blog site to see if my site really appeals to my target audience. I now understand the necessity of knowing a target audience goes beyond a certain group of people (i.e. single mothers, fitness lovers, etc.), which was all I had known for the longest time.

     In my career, I will be able to market my business to the correct target audience. I will be applying consumer personas and the AIDAS model to ensure the greatest success possible. Lastly, I will create conversion testing using the multivariate testing method to see which version of headlines and content work the best for my audience.

Digital Marketing Fundamentals

  Digital Marketing Fundamentals has helped me toward my original objective of learning how to become an efficient digital marketer. Not only does digital marketing help me in regard to a company, but also myself. My career involves entering the entertainment industry as a screenwriter. In order to keep up appearances online, it is crucial for me to know how to successfully market myself.

  Furthermore, what I have learned in this class has contributed to the skills I need to be an effective marketer. I have learned about Search Engine Optimization (SEO), maintaining my online reputation, inbound and outbound marketing, and click fraud, among other things.

  Search Engine Optimization helps me to understand the importance of being in the forefront. There are ways to put myself in that position without using overbearing tags to get me there. Search engine optimization also goes with using necessary keywords. Those keywords will help in the placement of my business and its products/services.

  Maintaining an online reputation includes being able to manage online social media accounts, surveys, and partnering with other businesses that have a strong online presence. Following these steps will keep my online reputation up to par with my consumers and target audiences. Additionally, it will help me with my networking as well.

  Inbound and outbound marketing is another way of saying old and new marketing. Both tools have been proven effective; however, inbound marketing is a new strategy that has a way of reaching out to most consumers via the internet. Online shopping is becoming a growing popular trend and to market to those consumers, inbound marketing is the best way to do so. Even baby boomers can be reached through inbound marketing. It is the way I have chosen to market myself and my services to others.

  Click fraud is a growing threat to businesses. It is an illegal activity that costs businesses millions of dollars in marketing every year. In order to avoid click fraud, I will download the software Click Guard, which is a popular computer software that detects the root of where the fraud is coming from and blocks it from happening in the future.

Multimedia Adaptation Mastery Journal Post

   Creating the adaptation was fun. It included pulling out the best parts of the story to mirror and leaving other parts to be changed to fit my adaptation. My story follows a young couple, Sean and Bianca, wanting to buy great Christmas presents for one another, but their funds are low. In the beginning, Sean loses his job and Bianca’s bank account shows her having a negative balance. Because of that, they both sacrifice something close to them to make the other happy.

   My adaptation differs from the original because the couple is younger and not married. The gifts they buy and the possessions they give up are different. The adaptation ending is also very different from the original. The essential characteristics of the original format was simply in story form. Because it is a story, there is more telling, so the reader knows what is going on. As a screenplay, there has to be more showing than telling; it is all visual and action.

   This adaptation meshes with my career goals as a writer because I’ve always wanted to do adaptations. I always found it fascinating to see how different visionaries interpret and change already done creative works. This process was much different from my other writing experiences I’ve had because I’ve always made my other scripts from scratch. In doing an adaptation, the premise and story is already mapped out for me.

   There are several other adapted projects I definitely want to do, which include turning popular movies into television shows. I also want to create some movies out of books that I’ve read, and thought would make great movies. All in all, this experience was a great one for me. It has me excited and confident to do a few adaptations in the future.

Gamification and Media Convergence

1.   Starbucks App.

a.    On the Starbucks App, customers earn stars as they order from there. The number of stars determine what the member status is. If one chooses to become a rewards member, they earn two stars for every one dollar spent with the app. In order to reach the highest membership level, gold star status, one needs to reach 300 stars. Out of those 300 stars, 125 of them can be used to purchase a Starbucks order. Furthermore, the Starbucks is available through The Apple App Store for iPhone users and Google Play for Android users.

2.    Twitter.

a.    On Twitter, the status is gained by the number of followers an individual has. Twitter has become a melting pot of addiction as it is a place where news is received, and the world becomes best friends as they discuss trending topics. Those topics can be as serious as politics, or as entertaining as a television show that is playing at the time. Through the lens of gamification, Twitter gives the users a “one more level” feel in the sense of needing to make “one more tweet”. With Twitter, the users go up another level by popularity that is gained through the number of followers and retweets they get. Followers and retweets are gained a lot through the kind of tweets a person chooses to have. Additionally, Twitter can be available through The Apple App Store for iPhone users and Google Play for Android users. Twitter can also be accessed by going to www.twitter.com.

3.    Facebook.

a.    On Facebook, it has several games available for a person to play. Social media and video games aren’t as separate as they used to be. As the popularity of social media continually increases, media conventions such as video games are able to benefit from it. An example of a popular game on Facebook is Farmville, which according to Keith Stuart, has attracted over 80 million people. This Facebook example coincides with media convergence. Moreover, Facebook can be accessed online through www.facebook.com, through the Apple App Store on iPhones and Google Play on androids.
