"My Pop played back when the Hawks were the 'Mayblooms' in the mid-forties. Also my mum was in the Hawthorn Cheer Squad during her teens in the mid-70s. My Pop was the key driver in going to the games, more so at Waverley, so him and Nan would take us as kids! I am going to the Hawks Meet Up launch at the MCG next Sunday 3rd April. Hope to see you there for the unfurling of the premiership flag and to watch the Hawks play against the Eagles."

“I’m a pilot, the best thing about that is you get to travel obviously, you are not stuck in a 9-5 job and you get a pretty good view! My dad and older brothers are Hawthorn supporters, but I remember as a younger child I liked Essendon colours. Hawthorn beat them in the 1983 Grand Final, so I was Hawthorn after that.”

“My dad was Hawthorn and my mum was Geelong so I had to choose between the two but I went with dad, obviously that has been a pretty good decision.”
Travis’ son interjects, ‘Dad weren’t you Richmond for a couple of years when you were younger?’
“Yeah I was for a couple of years for some reason, I can’t really remember why, but dad and my brother were always Hawthorn so I came back. I knew in school that I wanted to be a carpenter so I just concentrated on maths as I knew I would need that. I would tell young carpenters to keep realistic goals and don’t think they are going to achieve everything in one day, whether what they are building or if they have plans to go out on their own.”

“I’m a CEO of a hospitality group, but I had to work hard to get there. The best bit of advice I could give to someone who wants to make something of themselves is study hard. My family have been members of Hawthorn for over 10 years now, I signed the kids up as members the day they were born.”

“I love everything about animals, they’re better than people to be honest, they don’t judge, they are happy to be with you, they’re just great. This one’s name is Hodgey, it was a toss up between that and Campbell after Campbell Brown but then he left the club. I have another one at home named Chance after Chance Bateman.”

“I try and find a challenge in everything I do, being challenged pushes you to be better. My dad’s a Sydney supporter, but I’m Hawthorn because I liked the name Hawks and the colours when I was a kid.”

“I remember the day I became a Hawks supporter, it was 1971 and they had just won the premiership. I was a migrant (from South Africa) and my friend in Camberwell said let’s go down to Glenferrie Oval after they had won and there were people hanging off the fences. I was a soccer lover but when I first came out to Australia it was a low standard so in a way the transition to watching Aussie rules was easy. My advice for young people, is take time, look and listen. As you know when you were a young person growing up, you tend to be a smart alec and not want to listen. In a modern day society we need to look and listen, that’s how you learn.”

“Our parents knew each other through the football and we met at Princes Park in 1984 and we have been great friends ever since. When we moved to Waverley, we went out there every week too. We don’t actually sit together now, but we catch up pre-game, at half-time and post game. Oh but we text each other constantly during the game. I remember the 1986 Grand Final and we kicked a goal that was the sealer and I remember looking at Sally and the smile on our faces knowing we were going to win. Our friendship started at the footy, but now we catch up and do other things together away from the the football. ”

“I’ve supported the Hawks for 72 years. I remember going over to the hotel with my Dad after the matches at Glenferrie. I worked in fisheries research for 35 years, I loved it, working outdoors, learning about the environment when it became a big factor in the 1970s and 1980s. I have a lot of confidence in the next generation, they are smarter than we give them credit for.

“I’m a bricky, I enjoy being in the outdoors, soaking up the sun. My old man’s a brick layer, so that got me into it. I’ve been a member of the Hawks for the last three years, but I have supported them all my life. My first game was at Waverley Park, but I can’t really remember it, I remember falling asleep on the wooden seats though, I was very young then.”

“I love hanging out with my mates. After school I’d love to either play AFL for Hawthorn, be an electrician or be a builder. I play footy in Port Lincoln. The best thing I’ve done is kick four goals in a game. I don’t really celebrate when I kick a goal, it’s a waste of time so I just head back to the middle.

“I’m retired but I used to be a sales rep. The biggest change over my working life was the introduction of the computer age. It changed so much and if you weren’t ready for it then it could cost your business. The best thing about retirement, is being able to contribute to the community. That and also being able to come down and watch the Hawks train like today, plus I love watching my grandsons play football. I am looking forward to the younger Hawthorn players coming though and seeing them contribute more.

“We have a business in Queensland, but I’m from Melbourne originally and was brain washed at conception. I can’t remember my first game as I was probably still in nappies knowing my dad who would have taken me along, but I clearly remember coming to Waverley. I remember the last game here against Sydney when we won by 70 odd points. My husband Brett, is from Queensland and he is a rugby league man but I have slowly worked on him and he understands the passion. He unfortunately has terminal cancer. He’d be here today, but he is having radiation. He’ll be at the game on the weekend though. Brett and I live by a quote, and our advice would be ‘live from the inside out, not the outside in’. So believe with everything you are going to be ok no matter what the result, don’t let the outside world impact the way you live. ”

“I was an engineer first but now I’m a teacher. I did a bit of tutoring to students when I was at university and just enjoyed that. I now teach secondary school; the hardest thing about that is the proximity in age to the students. Kids want to be your mate sometimes rather than listen to you as a teacher, but you learn to manage that pretty quickly. I used to live in Mulgrave and we used to walk to the games at Waverley Park. Obviously when it shut down we were a bit disappointed. I remember my first game was against the Bulldogs and I think we won by about 38 points in 1993 or 94, something like that. Dunstall kicked about 12 goals and I remember asking my uncle is this normal, and he said, ‘yeah he does this most weeks’.

“I’m a student and a netball umpire and coach. The best thing about coaching is seeing how happy the kids are when they play. I love kids, I can’t wait to have kids when I am older. The best advice I could give to anyone else wanting to coach children; you need to have patience. I’ve been a Hawks fan since I was born, but I have been a member for the last 12 years. I love that they are a family club. My favourite Hawks moment was the 2013 preliminary final when we beat Geelong. After we won, I stayed in the MCG until everyone left and I sat there crying I was just so happy.

“Umm, my favourite player is Rioli, he can do anything, always spectacular. I play footy too and pretend to be Cyril. When I grow up I want to play footy for the Hawks.
